How long do you think Sonic Youth will continue to make albumns and tour?
 

I'm asking as it's a concern as I always want to be able to see them live and/or be introduced to new material.
I'm gonna guess they'll continue as they have for another 10 years easy. This lifestyle is how they've lived for so long plus their artistic enthusiasm probably will keep them going strong for many more years.
Any thoughts?

Till death do them apart. at least in the field of album making. as for touring maybe 5 years, but who knows....

Im sure they will be less frequent, but i imagine there will be SY albums for a good 20 years. The tours might be reduced significantly with the group having families and that, but i dont see why the albums would.

I imagine them in old age, going all Levon Helm and incorporating their families, neighbours and pets into the band. Playing acoustic sets on their front lawn on Sunday afternoons to raise money for the local school. Which (IMHO) sounds about a 1000% more interesting than what they've been doing in middle age.

I just can't envision them without any of the four members they've had since 1986. I'm sure Mark Ibold will move on at some point though.

tour: I think they will restrict it in a few years to a lot less "oversea" gigs

The pension funds took a huge blow from the credit crunch, so who knows how long that might be!

They'll do it forever... They don't really, at this point, have anything else to do; they have dealt in the currencies of cool for all of their adult life; and they will continue to do so... You could say the music's in their blood...

I'm not sure they can afford to split anyway -- they probably need the income from touring. I could be underestimating their wealth though.

I doubt your underestimating their wealth, no platinum albums, a lot of touring in small places. I'd say they're probably millionaires but not many times over like a lot of these one trick ponies we've recently had to endure.

Why stop they still seem to have the creative juices. They're albums get stronger instead of the usual bands that have the 2 album syndrome. The
touring may stop maybe in ten years. One thing I do believe is that once the creativity is gone they're gone from the scene unlike the British Invasion Bands that just won't go away. You know who you are Rolling Stones....

After the next album they will Pause for 4 years, become depressiv, fight with themselves, listen to new music, listen to nothing, become happy again, and then they will write the absolute masterpiece.

until they get tired of the compromise : album + touring..but they will making music until dead.

Like I said I'm sure they're comfortable I'm sure they're millionaires but I doubt many times over maybe 10 mill but I doubt much more that that.
