Street Art
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anthony Lister. Some of your favourite street art(ists)? Or some local street art that's around the corner from you that you like? I think there was a street art thread here once but I couldn't find it (I didn't really look.) |
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Alexandros Vasmoulakis. |
![]() ![]() ![]() Seen. |
Art to Sonic Youth fans = I prefer to talk about what I eat for breakfast and post pics of myself.
|
And on the first car in small letters it said
'All you see is..' and then you know big, big, you know some block silver letters that said '..crime in the city' Only just got into LA but there was a tag on the freeway about the traffic that I liked. Forgot what it exactly said, though. Also, Norma J prefers to make a condescending remake about other people. |
"I'm really not a fan of sreet art these days. I think in most cases, if not all, graffiti or whatever you want to call it, can ruin a beautiful building and make a city/suburb look degenerative and derelict."
- Norma J , 2008 he he he he he. |
I would have been referring to more vandalism than street art (which there is a HUGE difference) with that 2008 comment. Or I may have been being a reactionary twat, perhaps like yourself right now?
Anyway. Don't worry about it. |
man calm down, It was all in good fun, next time I'll put a streak of smilies, ok?
here's the old street art thread if you wanna have a look (the quote comes from there), along with another art thread with mention of Vasmoulakis. http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/showthread.php?t=19343 http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/showthread.php?t=34275 |
i love street art, but there seems to be a dearth of it here in TEXASSS
There are some things, but nothing as spectacular as what you posted normaj |

Don't worry, I thought it was fun-poking, too. ;) |
My favourite is the wolf man.

Yeah, it is pretty amazing.
There's a cool iPhone app called "All City" that has pics of pieces all over the world with the address incase you want to check it out for yourself. Plus you can up stuff yourself if you have cool stuff in your neighborhood. Pretty cool. If any of you have access to such devices. |
it's "All City Art"....and is it worth the purchase price?
I'll buy it, if so. what I like most about LA is the bravehearted taggers. it takes serious nuts to paint a freeway sign on the I-5. when in Rome, do as the Vandals. ps: I bow to nicfit's eideticism. |
It's All City but the website seems to be "All City Art".
I like it. Plus it's only like $2. |
yeah, I don't mind the money, it's not much.
just wanted to verify that it works. I plan to put it to good use this summer. thanks much for the suggestion! |

That's gorgeous. Locally, on the back of Banksy being somehow the most famous artist ever (he's from here) there's a load of council-sanctioned 'street art' that, while pleasant at times, has hacked off bits and bobs of the graf community. There is some good stuff, but I tend to think that it's more interesting in the local skate park, where the graf doesn't stay up for more than a month at best. Also, the kids in the skate park doing the graf don't tend to have degrees or the ability to fill in arts council applications, so there's a definite slant towards art that's not really representative of the local communities. Also, there's a hell of a lot of well-meaning 'ooh, Disney/ McDonalds is capitalist' type stuff, the only good one of which is this one: |
Nicfit, those scratchings are pretty amazing!
And Glice, Ron English is another one of those anti-captialist-anti-everything artist, with some pretty cool stuff: ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Conor Harrington is my fave so far.
