Paris

I knew I should have gone over a day early. The little facebook announcement saying they were enjoying a day off in Paris confirmed it. Bet Lee was in Place de Vosges. Coud have made myself bump into him. Can't wait for the gig though.
Think I may come home single though as My gf is not being in any way good to me right now, I'm expecting her to explode. maybe I'll just keep her ticket.

Thanks for this sy2004... some really cool moody shots there. Shame about the photog's signature though.

This Is Not There will be gutted that they played Shadow Of A Doubt in Paris.

greenlight 10.26.2009 09:03 AM

thanks sy2004. i'm gutted that I see T on lying on the floor with his guitar. nothing like that in Brussels. well there's ATP and Dublin to come so hopefully.

greenlight 10.26.2009 09:04 AM

i wonder what they were shooting for TV.

wmike 10.26.2009 11:14 AM

They are playing a french TV show called " L' Album de la semaine" ( Album of the week ). Bands doing this show are playing in front of an audience of 150 people, 6-7 songs from their new cds (and sometimes they add a couple of oldies ).
Audience is seating in stalls 3 meters in front of the band which is playing on the floor , so it' s like having them playing in your bedroom.

Dunno why but music shows on french tv are always pretty nicely filmed/recorded, can't wait to get a chance to see this...fingers crossed.

So Shadow of a Doubt is played in Berlin, Brussells and Paris but NOT London. I feel like we were robbed.

...............but we did get Hey Joni instead :)

Keeping It Simple 10.27.2009 02:37 PM

If New York is "The Big Apple", and London, "The Big Smoke", what is Paris, "The Big Cheese"?

Alan ciccone 10.27.2009 03:07 PM

Tom Violence was definitely the highlight for me follow by Shadow of a Doubt. Sometimes I wish Kim would put a bit more effort into her singing though.

angelo misterioso 10.27.2009 05:14 PM

Kim's poncho thing looks cool as fuck. She is so goddamn hip it is almost nauseating.

Gang Of One 10.28.2009 02:16 PM

Good show, not THAT great, because of the venue i think.

Some songs from The Eternal felt unexpectingly weak, like Poison Arrow, Leaky Lifeboat or Malibu Gas Station, all of whom i really like on the record.

Stereo Sanctity was really cool of course, an expected treat. Tom Violence and Cross The Breeze have been the highlights for me, as well as Anti Orgasm.

I felt it lacked the kind of craziness i dug some much at others Sonic Youth's concerts. It lacked drumsticks and very old songs. It lacked surprises.

All in all it was a great show though.

I wished they played Hey Joni.

mil_pl 10.28.2009 04:17 PM

so what's with the tv stuff?

greenlight 10.28.2009 04:43 PM

i wonder as well. there should be something coming up here

http://player.canalplus.fr/#/musique/les-live

but definitely not full set and it would be a web quality. I hope tv recording will surface, eventhough I doubt know, coz it's been 24hrs. since broadcast so french boardies would put it up already, hope I'm wrong and hoping that it might surface somewhere else.

mil_pl 10.28.2009 05:05 PM

thanks richard I will check it out

I think audio and/or video will appear someday. Often those "live de la semaine" or "concert prive" are released a few days later but often also weeks/months later. Just have patience I guess

nicfit 10.29.2009 02:06 AM

yessss, reruns could help greatly in our quest...

sorry for the misunderstanding, I think it was broadcasted but I meant the audio and/or video recording of it usually shows up in the end, but it can take a while (from days-to-months)

greenlight 10.29.2009 09:27 AM

alright, I see... cheers!

Moshe 10.29.2009 11:00 AM

The week of November 16, Canal + in France will air one song a night from a recent performance by SY at their Paris studios. The songs air at 6:05 Monday-Friday.

it's gonna be broacasted on Canal+ in a few weeks , one song everyday for a week and then the whole show on Canal+ décalé later
Check the " Album de la semaine" website for more
so in that case, it'll take a while to find a recording

hirsute_biped 10.30.2009 06:41 PM

so, nobody has said anything (as far as i know) about Lee's broken wrist effecting or not effecting these shows. for those of you who attended, did he seem any different, playing wise? supposedly he owned the last gig in oakland pre-breakage...
