Satan 09.16.2009 11:44 PM

Kloriel 09.16.2009 11:46 PM

Satan 09.16.2009 11:46 PM

is there some confusion between username vs avatar going on

i don't have an avatar
satan is my name

Kloriel 09.16.2009 11:51 PM

sorry i have a learning disability. it isn't your fault, it is my brain that expects to see a pictorial expression in conjunction with your potent nickname. But there are people that have expressed it more clearly than me. I mean I have flippers for hands and crap myself often. So let's just leave it to: doubleUdoubleUdoubleUDOTUtubeDOTcom/watch?v=yJQFf0qj9Nk

I wish I could go to one of his shows, I saw a live performance on the Artists Den..

more from Live at the Artists Den.....

i mean it is going to go way back to gnostic thought, and pb's probably one of the only certified people around that can dole it out like it stands. Not that there aren't others that could swarm him with a pox of laxative driven rooks. Glice I think knows some shit, and there's probably a few smart lurkers around. But i'm assuming you're concerned with the epsitomolecularology of your name and the lack of pictoral reference. On a grunting primal level in a fictious world I'd fuck your tits and smear my scent all over your pores. But I'm just a goofer, I kid around; I'm really more interested in taoism.

Glice 09.17.2009 04:52 AM

Everyone's into tao, for the tao is in the one, and in the many.

I wrote an essay on Genesis (as in the Bible, not the band) being directly represented within the Tao te ching. It required that both 'God' and 'Tao' are taken to mean 'not directly representible to the human consciousness' (that is, destituting each language's syntax). I was quite pleased with myself.

I think the representation of Satan in popular culture is something that doesn't really come in until the dark ages; I'm not even sure the gnostics represented 'him' pictorially. I know that a lot of what we consider 'ancient' representations of Satan/ Satanic sorts are 18th- or 19th-century fabrications (most notably, Baphomet) thrown about by neo-Gnostic groups like the Rosacrucians.

But yeah, I do think that Satan needs a new avatar. Something very zingy. Very now. What does Satan represent, in 2009?

Kloriel, your posts are brilliant.

I think my avatar is more representative of "satan" than any depiction of a metaphysical being. I consider diabolism to be a humanism (or, rather, antihumanism) that was adopted into theology.

(My avatar is from the cover of the Penguin Classic publication of G.K. Chesterton called The Man Who Was Thursday)

agreed. I just finished reasoning with my step popz about this.. that there is no devil or satan, that the devil is our own shortcomings.. I-man do not blame the devil for any of my own mistakes, I own up to my own decisions good and bad.. even Job said,"What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil?"

The Devil is ourselves.. there is no duality, strictly positive vibrations combined with opportunities which seem negative but are in fact learning opportunities..

pbradley 09.17.2009 08:44 PM

^ that's very Catholic

really? I would think that romish christianity used the devil as its cop-out mechanism like most christians.. in the Tewahedo they blame demons and bad spirits on everything, in fact traditional Ethiopian christianity ascribes that there are no such things as good and bad people, just good and bad spirits (ie, saints/angels and demons/duppies) who influence the decisions and actions of human beings.. I personally do not believe this, I am ultra-Christian, if Jesus Christ is God in the flesh, and God died on the Cross to bind any kind of devil, then there are no longer any devils to plague humanity. My Christology says that since Christ came, we are responsible for ourselves and our own decisions, we have no one to blame for our mistakes but ourselves..

ahh, caravaggio.. it took me twenty minutes to find this painting but it was well worth it.. I love renaissance christian art, it is so much more expressive than iconography, a kind of non-religious religiosity, using religious themes to express more universal human emotions..
(and to keep on topic, here is some more of that fantastic Raphael Saadiq performance Love that Girl

"Roman Catholic teaching regards original sin as the general condition of sinfulness (lack of holiness) into which human beings are born, distinct from the actual sins that a person commits. It explicitly states that original sin does not have the character of a personal fault in any of Adam's descendants."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_sin

Though many Catholics also believe in the devil. Catholicism, in my understanding, really has a large volume of various interpretations that, at times, compliment or contradict each other. I really see this as a result of its apostolic/missionary nature. But "Catholic guilt" is certainly more traditionally Catholic than a lot of more "born again" influenced new shit going round.

Satan 09.17.2009 11:55 PM

i watched this show on national geographic last night about the rapture
pretty interesting shit, apparently the rapture is not even in the bible

pbradley 09.17.2009 11:58 PM

I like the fact that she has no avatar it adds to the mystery
the legend that is Satan. Allows one to have one's own fantasy....

for me I sort have this evil repunzel thing going on

noisereductions 09.18.2009 09:10 AM

Raphael Saadiq is probably the most under-rated songwriter/performer of the 1990's. But I don't feel like talking about it right now.

no its not, and many christians do not regard it at all. In orthodoxy there is no such thing, Baptists ridicule other protestants for believing in it..

for many christians the rapture is a way to judge other people in a holier than thou moment.. fuck that.

I myself despire the concept of a rapture, where some folks are miraculously spared and others doomed to torture and suffering.. I do not like the idea of such a vindictive God or destiny.. I believe in equality, its all or nothing.
