favorite david lynch movies?

Fire Walk With Me is where i got my screen name! here are my favorites...

1. Wild At Heart (his masterpiece, really underrated)
2. Blue Velvet (LET'S FUCK! I'LL FUCK ANYTHING THAT MOVES! Classic!)
3. Mulholland Drive (so much like a dream)
4. Fire Walk With Me (scariest movie i've ever seen)
5. Eraserhead (you've heard noise music, this is a noise MOVIE)
6. The Elephant Man (he has a knack for drama which he doesn't tap into enough)
7. The Short Films (The Grandmother... what the fuck??)
8. Lost Highway (i could never totally get into this one)

still have to see Dune and The Straight Story, and i can't wait for his new one, Inland Empire... the return of Laura Dern...

what are your favorite Lynch head trips?

johnnywinternoshow 03.27.2006 02:51 PM

1. blue velvet
2. eraserhead
3. mullholland drive
4.lost highway
5.fire walk with me
6.wild at heart (mainly cus i can't stand cage)
7.straight story
8.dune (terrible i thought)

yet to see elephant man

anyone seen his show 'on the air'? a comedy about tv in the 50s or 60s, I have it downloaded but havent got round to watching it. Apparently it was commissioned after the success of twin peaks but had little or no airtime

also downloaded a documentary called 'pretty as a picture' about him but again i havent watched it

Savage Clone 03.27.2006 03:10 PM

Eraserhead and Blue Velvet, easy.

stirling 03.27.2006 03:18 PM

I think Lost Highway is absolutely brilliant. I've liked it more after repeated viewings. Lots of subtle clues to piece together.

xpresswaytoyrskull 03.27.2006 03:19 PM

My favorite Lynch's

Twin Peaks &
The Music for Twin Peaks (yes co-written with Angelo Badalamenti) later preformed by Julee Cruise. God how I love Julee Cruise.

xpresswaytoyrskull 03.27.2006 03:20 PM

BTW did you know there is a Lynch fan zine still in print called Wrapped In Plastic?

!@#$%! 03.27.2006 03:21 PM

oh hm errr hmmm wild at heart i loved but blue velvet i think is the better movie. i hate making lists btw. because of this reason.

chabib 03.27.2006 03:23 PM

my girlfriend is in a scene in his new film.

jon boy 03.27.2006 03:29 PM

well thats pretty cool.

i like wild at heart and i think lost highway is fucking great as well.

truncated 03.27.2006 03:31 PM

Blue Velvet is tops, for certain.

How'd she land that, chabib?

chabib 03.27.2006 03:37 PM

she was eating kittens with david lynch and as they each picked their teeth with discarded kitten claws, lynch decided she'd be a good addition to a scene.

xpresswaytoyrskull 03.27.2006 03:46 PM

Interesting fact: Lynch will not tolerate cooking smells in his home.

LifeDistortion 03.27.2006 03:55 PM

I think my favorite is "Blue Velvet" followed by "Mullholland Drive". I really like them all, the ones I've seen anyways. I even like "Twin Peaks" Fire Walk With Me", which doesn't seem to be a favorite of his hardcore fans. Not sure if I'd include myself in that group, even though he is one of my favorite directors.

i have to agree... blue velvet being just a tiny bit better. i don't know why people are always slagging off that one, it's just not right.
i couldn't stand the elephant man.

Good job on her. I tend to make a mess of myself when dining on small mammals.

Savage Clone 03.27.2006 04:42 PM

Slagging off Blue Velvet?
Best movie of the 80s!

truncated 03.27.2006 04:57 PM

How is it that Laura Dern looks 40 even then?

Savage Clone 03.27.2006 04:59 PM

She makes the worst facial expression ever in that movie.

truncated 03.27.2006 05:01 PM

Indeed she does. And to me she just looks so absurd in those schoolgirl outfits. Perhaps that was intentional. For that matter, MacLachlan looks older than his part as well. Yet, since then, he seems to be in some sort of ageless vacuum.

Toilet & Bowels 03.27.2006 05:08 PM

the twin peaks tv series is by far and away my favourite lynch thing.
after that i like eraserhead and the straight story a lot.

my local video shop is doing a twin peaks marathon session in may where they are going to be showing both series and the film in one long 36 hour session, it's going to be a themed extravaganze apparently, free coffee free pie etc. i can't wait.

truncated 03.27.2006 05:13 PM

Ooh fun stuff, on a big screen?

!@#$%! 03.27.2006 05:14 PM

twin peaks season 1 kicks ass

i haven't see season 2 however. i've heard mixed reviews due to network pressures...

johnnywinternoshow 03.27.2006 05:50 PM

my girlfriend bought her brother a twin peaks board game off ebay for christmas, apparently it's stupidly complex for a boardgame and involves players speaking backwards with the other people have to decipher what's being said amongst other things

i don't know, i would imagine it'll be projected as it's for 50 people. it's right at the beginning of the month though....

season two is good, although there's a bit of a lull in excitement in the middle but it picks up a lot towards the end, it's also 3 times longer than the first series.

max 03.27.2006 06:26 PM

chabib lemme just say, that's great. i can't wait for INLAND EMPIRE to come out.
down here, my very fave work of his has to be MULLHOLLAND DRIVE. beauty on screen. but all of his works are pure genius. did anyone here got to check out the live feed of the Lynch Weekend they just did @David Lynch Foundation? kewl stuff.

ronnierubbish 03.27.2006 10:01 PM

I've got the french deluxe edition that came out last year. The british one should be out by now, which I think is the same HD transfer as the french.

No word yet on the Universal version. It could be a while.

jon boy 03.28.2006 10:14 AM

i also have to add that i loved twin peaks.

porkmarras 03.28.2006 10:57 AM

easily eraserhead bacause i love the sound on that one.Its almost like you are listening to images in a way.

Hip Priest 03.28.2006 11:10 AM

You can say the same of James Spader...way too old to be in Pretty in Pink, yet somehow always stayed the same age.

Cool! I'm a big TP fan. I can't rank the movies, though, they are all equally good, except Dune....although if I had to choose a favorite it probably would be Lost Highway.

m^a(t)h 06.19.2006 09:43 PM

Eraserhead, the other ones are okay but, Eraserhead

Eraserhead

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 06.19.2006 10:32 PM

The only ones that I've watched in completion are Wild At Heart, Blue Velvet, and Eraserhead. I'd say Blue Velvet is the best of those 3 although Eraserhead breaks a lot more ground.

Amaranth 06.19.2006 10:55 PM

I really don't like David Lynch, however, because I live in the Inland Empire I am curious about his take on it.

Tokolosh 06.20.2006 02:35 AM

Wild at heart is the most beautiful.
Eraserhead is a pro abortion nightmare.
Blue velvet has the best soundtrack.
The straight story is totally slo-mo-shun.
Twin peaks is a trip.
Lumiere 53 sec film strip is amazing.
Rabbit is suicide.

All his films are brilliant.

_slavo_ 06.20.2006 03:22 AM
