Question about Limewire

What's the catch with the free version? I noticed that certain songs simply will not download, like I'll search for say, a sonic youth song, and it will download no problem. Then I'll search for a Red Hot Chili Peppers song and that song simply will not let me download from any of the hosts. What's the deal with that? Do I have to filter out hosts that aren't connected or something?

im not sure what the porblem is. but i like soulseek alot better then lime wire. you probably would to

Hip Priest 06.23.2006 03:28 AM

I'm informed that the main problem with Limewire is that it basically acts as a direct route for viruses to get into your computer.

Indeed, someone installed and used Limewire on our work computer and we got rather a lot of viruses, including one unremovable one.

So be careful.

king_buzzo 06.23.2006 03:42 AM

i hate limewire. actually all of those downloaad program things

Style 06.23.2006 04:33 AM

I also hate limewire. Soulseek for single songs, BitTorrent for albums, and if you can't find albums on BitTorrent you hit up emule.

major catch: you just might end up being arrested.
secondary catch: you must spend ridiculous amounts of time just to get a download going.

I just don't understand this constant obstinate refusal of people to use BitTorrent. I really don't.

BitTorrent is not the worlds easiest thing to use. In my experience it takes a lot longer to get things going. I realise this is because I don't seed a lot, but I find that slsk has a lot friendlier an interface. Also, bittorrent can get glitchy results.

Further, I refuse to understand how a matter of personal preference is indicative of obstinate refusal. Please be careful of your rhetoric, because it's that that gets you into arguments.

trance feeeedback 06.23.2006 10:04 AM

hip priest is right, my friend called me up and said his computer had a virus, so I ran a virus check on his computer and turns out he had like over 1,000 infected files. He used limewire to download stuff all the time, and thats why his computer was infected, it was the same thing with kazaa. Use soulseek! Yes there is some risks if you use soulseek but it's not nearly as risky as limewire.

soulseek is also virus prone as well. as soon as i started using it a while ago things started to appear. i know there are a lot of people who have had no problems at all so there is no need to tell me, but when i had to get the comp fixed the guy who did it found that it was all via file sharing. i did not have adequate virus protection at the time which was another factor but i do now so i occasionaly use soulseek. but everytime i do and run a scan it comes up with shit loads of them when there was none before.

Alex's Trip 06.23.2006 10:48 AM

I've never had a problem with Limewire. Occasionally a file won't download but I think it has to do with a busy host or something.

Also you can download Limewire Pro with regular Limewire. I've haven't done that before though.

h8kurdt 06.23.2006 11:05 AM

Sorry to go off topic here, so whats the best place to download bootlegs from? By best I mean lowest risk of viruses. There's so many different ones and I'm crap at computers so forgive my stupidity.

atari 2600 06.23.2006 02:01 PM

I don't give a fuck

Bring on all arguments.

If I don't like it, I'll walk away from the computer.
You seem to not understand that I don't care.

I used to a great deal, but not anymore.

Fuckin nerds...\

HaydenAsche 06.23.2006 02:05 PM

Haha. I love atari.

Limewire is just a virus-infested pile of shit.

I use this, works good enough for me.

HaydenAsche 06.23.2006 02:11 PM

Home taping is killing music. lol.

lizzarddd 06.23.2006 02:13 PM

:)
I buy cds if i think the artist should get profits, but..not if i just want a couple of songs.

HaydenAsche 06.23.2006 02:13 PM

I can't listen to just a few songs. I always listen to albums all the way through.

lizzarddd 06.23.2006 02:17 PM

yeah, it disappoints me sometimes though,

Let the sucking of my cock begin.

Alex's Trip 06.23.2006 07:36 PM

They aren't supposed to be able to track you down if you turn off your sharing abilities. Or so I heard.

I used limewire a lot and never got viruses. Though I don't use it anymore, once in a great while. Sometimes you cant download a track because of someones connection or some times users wont let you download stuff off of their computer.

acousticrock87 06.25.2006 07:26 PM

I used to use Kazaa Lite, when it was free, but now I don't download music at all. I use iTunes samples if I'm interested, usually the band's site has some full songs. If I like um, I'll buy um.

And I always listen to the entire CD all the way through, too. At least the first one or two times I listen to it.

I dont use limewire for music;)

acousticrock87 06.25.2006 07:57 PM

Haha. I may not rep you at this time. We all use "music" as a loose term for downloads.

EyeballGrowth 06.25.2006 08:00 PM

It's so funny how EVERYONE was using kazaa napster and morpheus in their heyday, but then everyone all of a sudden stopped using it and said " No it's wrong, blah blah blah, I'm deleting it from my computer "

It is so funny how you generalize everyone. I used Limewire to download a few programs, sure. I'm sure that not EVERYONE was using it, idiot. My grandmother has never even had the internet. How in the hell would she use Limewire? This is just like you saying people who don't like the Pumpkins have owned a cd by them. Please, keep your terrible opinions to yourself.
