Glastonbury 2009
So anyone else here watching the TV coverage of this (on BBC in thee UK)? Any SYGers actually there? WHat have been your highlights/lowlights so far?
Highlight so far - seeing a happy as fuck Dizzee Rascal tearing it up Lowlight - being subjected to Maximo Park's NME-rock. Bleurgh. EDIT - you can follow Glasto here - http://www.bbc.co.uk/glastonbury/2009/watchtv/ |
Is it just me, or could Pendulum not be shitter if they tried? I mean, its Skunk Anansie with a drum machine, i could only enjoy it if i was so off my tits i didnt care (which im not. yet)
|
Lowlight: Not only am I not there taking whale-murdering quantities of drugs, but every one who is there is updating their facebook status in contrite acts of spite.
Lowlight: Not only am I not there having drug-induced prophecies of Buddha partying on down with John Peel, most people I know who are there are precisely the sort of people who are probably going to 'check out' Springsteen and 'maybe let their hair down a bit', ie, precisely the sort of people who wouldn't know a drug-train if it literally was the size of a train and was parked at the bottom of the FUCKING airbed they bought 2 days ago. Lowlight: Not only am I not currently attempting to chew not just through my cheek, but also through time itself, but there's fuck all going on in Bristol because every cunt has fucked off to Pill. Lowlight: Not only could I not afford the £rape for a ticket (thus preventing me from currently being running around in fantastically ill-advised flourescent clothing convincing people that I'm John the beat-Baptist), but even if I could I'd still be on FUCKING antibiotics for this FUCKING sinus infection that's made me feel like I've taken legions of watermelon-in-forehead inducing evil poppers (thus preventing me from getting properly off my twat) |
"not available in your area", eh?
RACISTS! |
^^^Man, that sounds grim - you poor geezer :( (Edit: To Glice)
|
the ikara kult - yikes, I think I agree with you re Pendulum - like a poor man's Apollo 440, with a idiot gurning frontman. Must we fling this half arsed filth at ver kids?
|
Quote:
Penduluum are about equally as shit as this. Probably worse given that it's probably grown adults buying Penduluum's records. |
A poor man's Apollo 440! That's the shittest description ever! I'm almost embarassed on Penduluum's behalf (except, obviously, they're shit and therefore deserving of it).
|
thought neil young was pretty decent last night..especially his day in the life, i thought the 45 fake endings for free world was a bit much tho...just play the fucking dsong or get off..........
|
I really think Pendulum should return to "the circuit". I can only think they went around "the circuit" so often and so rapidly that they managed to escape the gravitational pull of "the circuit".
Given that theyre called "Pendulum" as well, their escape from the perpetual motion that such a dull band is usually confined to contravenes all known laws of physics. |
Paulybee - think I'll check out the N Young footage on the BBC later on - the man got a 2-thumbs up review in the Grauniad - good to know that Mr Ragged Glory has still got it.
Am currently watching someone else - is it Jamie T? - trying to "rock" out... |
Shit, Cerys Matthews looks awful... like shes had botox and extensive dental surgery, and got them mixed up on the form... i used to fancy the bits off her... not sure which bits are real now... crud...
|
now her voice isnt the most piercing thing about her...... agreed!
|
Pendulum "Do you wanna hear one more song?"
Glasto "YESSSS" Me "Noooooo!" Yeah, Cerys did look a bit, er, Californian, but quite sprightly with it. |
Currently up - Florence and the Machines....like a pasteuirsed Bjork meets PJ Harvey thing. She does look great, and at least has some stage presence, thank gawd. A refreshing change from watching Kasabian chunder through their set with all the grace and panache of John Major at a double glazing salesman's convention.
|
If anyone happens to have a psychic link with Cerys, please pass on the following message:
STOP SINGING IN LANGUAGES OTHER THAN WELSH LOVE. Thanks. |
Pendulum look like the group of guys whove been going to the same pub as you for 7 years but have never said hello, just hung around the pool table making friends with each new generation of impressionable teenagers.
|
Florence is quite near the top of my current list of 'people who need a good kick in the cunt'.
|

Yes, but do you like her? She's taken a few vocal riffs from Siouxsie Sioux as well. Any chance of her goosestepping around the John Peel Stage singing "Deutschland Deutschland Uber Alles"? (No? Ah, nuts). EDIT: White Lies are currently working their way through the "Dummies' Guide To The Killers" fakebook. Isn't one Brandon Flowers enough? |
that Florence thing was poor, if you took someone attractive and dressed her in Florence's clothes i would be a happy bunny, as it is i have to make do with the memories of Cerys
|
No I do not like her. Precisely the sort of shit that people who don't like pop music make when they try and make pop music, ie, shit.
|
in fact ive turned over and found a Michael Jackson video starring Macauly Culkin, im wondering if it will be as skin crawlingly wrong as the video for Sunday. A combination of the two would force me to censor light itself
|
Glice - I think I get what you mean re. Florence - trying to create "classic" pop from an essential rock viewpoint.
She loses points for mentioning "Balearic piano" in a song intro. |
Balearic piano is totally 90's.
|
Oh look, it's The Gang Of F....sorry, Franz Ferdinand. Have to admit I've a soft spot for these boys - let's see how they fare...
|
I like Franz Ferdinand too. Their first album is really good, the second one is good, the new one is sympathetic - well the fact is, they always make the same album... but I still like them.
By the way I'm so jealous at you for being able to see Dizzee Rascal. "Not available in your area" |
Im not sure who youre watching, but im convinced its the Talking Hea... no sorry youre right its the Gang of F.... oh wait its Franz Ferdinand.
I like The Boss, he is the best at what he does, and if youre not partial to bombastic rock n roll then you probably dont like Springsteen |
Am watching Brooce now, giving it some epic rawk welly on the main stage...I see Little Steven is in attendance too...Franz were pretty good, me thought.
|
Bruce S is doing a lot of getting amongst the crowd - wonder if he'll try and surf them, a la Iggy at the Cincinatti Pop Festival...
|
triple word score for the sax guy doing a whistle solo.
Just looking forward to Atlantic City and/or Further Up The Road |
ooh hes playing Waiting On a Sunny day, im pleasently surprised
|
The Boss kicks Neil Young out of all kinds of parks, i dont get this reverence for the silly Canadian sod.
|
"Down By The River" followed by "Born to Run" - Brooce is hitting a Win stride here.
|
its weird how Springsteen just passes by all my cynicism buttons, no matter how many times he starts shoutin and hollerin like a preacher, i still believe. First time this week ive wished i was there.
|
The Bruce set was great. Sitting here I got into his schtick and there's noone else who can move from the genuine heartstrings of The River into the shameless Spector of Born To Run while you go, oh, alright. I'm seeing him for the first time in three weeks and this whets all sorts of things.
And for all those Rugby fans, fuck ROG. He was shite. |
Bruce was proper epic.

Pissflaps. I could've tapped Nicola Roberts if I was there. OF COURSE she'd want to tap a Westcountry space cadet. She'd be all over me like a spacerash if she met me. |
Touch Roberts and I'll piss on your blue suede shoes
|
You can wear my blue suede shoes on your cock for all I'd care if I was tapping Roberts.
|
this thread is so English that I'm not quite sure what's going on. i know glastonbury is a festival... as far as I can tell, bruce springsteen is playing there. drugs are available. that's about all i got.
