Did any of you freaks here remember Lenny?

I can't remember his last name...

SYRFox 06.02.2009 02:55 PM

I think it's Kravitz. Not sure though.

atsonicpark 06.02.2009 02:56 PM

I'm pretty sure he often omits this line when singing the song live.

I wonder...

It's probably Lenny Bruce.

Or Lenny Breu.

afterthefact 06.02.2009 02:57 PM

Or maybe he is thinking of Lemmy...

Derek 06.02.2009 03:06 PM

His last name is Leonard by the way...

Kegmama 06.02.2009 03:07 PM

Lenny Leonard.
This is the only Lenny I know...

Kegmama 06.02.2009 03:08 PM

Damn Derek! Great minds...

automatic bzooty 06.02.2009 03:36 PM

d'you remember carl, too?

jennthebenn 06.02.2009 04:17 PM

Carl Carlson? Love that guy.

RanaldoNecro 06.02.2009 07:42 PM

Carl = Karl Marx
Lenny = Vladimir Lenin

Sonic Youth 37 06.02.2009 09:03 PM

One of best Simpsons moments is when Homer has "Lenny=White, Carl=Black" written on his hand

I assumed Lenny Bruce. It would fit the lyrical theme of the rest of the LP.

A few years back I was trying to write a book (seriously) about the NYCG&F lyrics. But like most things that are hard work, I just sort of hung out instead.

Magic Wheel Memory 06.03.2009 07:21 AM

I never sensed it was anyone famous. It just struck me as some random guy that nobody remembered.

But if it is someone famous, it's obviously Lenny from Laverne and Shirley.

That's sort of what I thought, just because the lyrics seemed to be more fiction than non, so I wasn't looking for any real world connections.

noisereductions 06.03.2009 10:36 AM

Until I read "Lengths & Breaths," I thought he said "I set down the sonic receiver."

atsonicpark 07.14.2011 08:32 PM

Shrug. Just felt like this board needs Simpsons-ified!

Derek 07.14.2011 08:39 PM

Werd.

littlepriest 07.15.2011 01:22 AM

Lenny is my father's name

atsonicpark 07.15.2011 01:28 AM

Did any of you freaks remember him?

atsonicpark 07.15.2011 01:30 AM

...so, did anyone ever figure out who Lenny was, that Lee was referencing it -- and also why the line is often not recited in live performances? Chris's link on the previous page is dead.

atsonicpark 07.15.2011 09:40 AM

nice, thank you.

"& ouch, a 0.0, just because they're not from Chicago? Talk about petty jealousy" haha.

chris.l70 08.10.2011 08:18 AM

Lenny, is an existential-construct. They encased him in carbonite in New York city. The distant hiss of the subway, coupled with the pink-glow of the Manhattan summer sky reveals who, what, and, where Lenny might be. "To make the world explode, one needs only to shut one's eyes." I think the same is true for "Lenny", close your eyes, and you will know Lenny.
