Which Sider Af Sonic Youth do you listen to most?

just curious...

joe11121 04.10.2009 10:19 AM

Studio albums, mostly.

Jeremy 04.10.2009 10:20 AM

I personally really can't get into much of any SYR release, so I voted for their straight up studio albums.

~Jeremy~

noisereductions 04.10.2009 10:25 AM

hey Jeremy. Welcome aboard. The SYR's are great, but if yr not "used to them" they can take some time to warm up to. You may just come around.

noisereductions 04.10.2009 10:25 AM

nobody picked "live recordings" yet, so I'm guessing Stu hasn't voted yet?

exploding plastic candle 04.10.2009 02:15 PM

I plan on really exhausting all the studio albums before I move on to the SYRs and B-Sides, and I just don't see that happening for a LONG time.

By 'Live Recordings' do you mean boots, mainly? I love all the live SY I have heard but it is all official or 'semi-official'. What are the best boots? I would love to hear a live recording from the NYC G&F era - preferrably when the songs were still 'numbered' and were instrumental. WOW!! NYC G&F is my fave LP at the moment. It's dreamy :p

yesca 04.10.2009 03:15 PM

ATM the studio stuff, but i do listen to 'all of the above' on the reg.

Death & the Maiden 04.10.2009 08:18 PM

Studio albums. I don't think I have anything else of theirs.

terminal pharmacy 04.10.2009 08:34 PM

no vote here, all on reg rotation

I used to collect boots hardcore. I have at least 100 of them. But nowadays, the only boots I actually even think about are the official ones (Blastic, Continental, Venlo, Walls, etc)

Thanks man, I really appreciate. I've been a lurker for a couple months now but the admin always had administration disabled, until recently it seems. But thanks regardless. :)

I'm only familiar with their song samples on Amazon.com, but I've been into those for at least 10 years now.

lechaoscestmoi 04.11.2009 04:06 AM

studio albums

SonicBebs 04.11.2009 04:50 AM

what are the 'official live recordings'? I have hold that tiger but would definatly love to hear some from their later period especialy the atl/nycgaf period

at the moment i'm listening to syr's alot, but also daydream so i'm a bit of both

Theremin 04.11.2009 04:57 AM

Studio Albums. The SYR's aren't something I can casually listen to at any time of the day. Usually they sound more 'interesting' than brilliant, really.

barnaclelapse 04.11.2009 06:58 AM

Studio albums...then live stuff. I have to be in a odd mood for the weird stuff.

I can never listen to the live stuff, I don't have any of the official releases. And I'm not a fan of most bootlegs, because lots have shitty quality.

you're wrong, you don't know nothing about live recordings.

noisereductions 04.11.2009 12:50 PM

let's not fight boys.

Continental Club is brilliants (basically EVOL live). Hold That Tiger is a good show, though it sounds a smidge sped-up.

Dead-Air 04.11.2009 01:58 PM

It's actually a pretty even split, but I went for "Live Recordings" since those are in my iTunes and thus what I often listen to at the computer.

I think that might have been the coke.

I don't.
Just some bootlegs I hear from some people suck. Official Bootlegs are usually good, but I don't own any. But some unofficial ones all I heard was the audience, and a quite singing, that has been distorted by the recording.

and the mastering. Trying to fit THIS MUCH music onto a teeny vinyl slab.

greedrex 04.12.2009 03:56 AM

actually i listen to more live stuff these days.
will dive into previous studio stuff yet again when new LP comes out...

EVOLghost 04.12.2009 05:19 PM

Still in the process of gettin' the SYR's.

cheers, i looked at that page as soon as i'd posted (its a wicked site!)
all the official bootlegs seem to be from the older era.
I like the look of Boom Boom baby though. Any idea where you can pick up the unofficial boots? Or is it too illegal to talk about on here?

noisereductions 04.13.2009 08:47 AM

it's FINE to talk about them here. There's an FTP that I'm sure has the BOOM BOOM gig. I have a burn of it SOMEWHERE, but I'm in the process of moving so I can't dig it up for ya.

Also, be aware that the BatteryPark LP that's coming out soon is a recent gig.

SonicBebs 04.15.2009 01:16 PM

is that the one with the begn offer? I haven't been reading that thread to find out what we can get in the uk but that does look good

Perfume-V 04.16.2009 05:00 PM

Mostly their studio albums. I've listened to each SYR at most once and have never felt compelled to go back. I can probably say that SYR8 is their best though.
