I love the internet
Moments in love.
“I pity weak men: They should be dragged out into the middle of the street, beaten, humiliated, degraded and sodomized by my friends and me just for sport. I love seeing weak men cry—my heart races.” Diamanda Galas http://www.arthurmag.com/2009/01/25/...008/#more-3900 |
Ha ha, what a brilliant quote. Nice article too.
|
A good interview. Thanks.
I don't know what it is about Diamanda Galas. She seems to be forever locked in the 1980s. I can't put my finger on what it is but she always seems frozen in some kind of mythical 1985 for some reason. |
She seems unhappy.

Why does she say that she pities weak men but then say that that should be done to them? How can she "love seing that" if she feels pity for them? It's a bit of a contradiction indicating that she is just improvising to shock rather than this being an actual opinion of hers. I hate imature people like this who overcompensate their emotional vulnerability. Strong people don't need to go out of their way to show that they are strong. |
Personally, I stopped reading that interview the minute she started waffling on about Judy Garland.
|
All people who posted on here are men.
|
that'll account for 99.9% of her fanbase then
|
How would you know?
|
i guessed
|
I haven't read much of the interview but the way she is described just smacks of ressentiment just like with any other goth/punk/emo.
|
I was fantasising about marrying her the whole time I was reading that. I don't really go in for celebrity crushes any more, but I'd totally break my own legs to marry Diamanda.
|
I wonder if the same is true for most "experimental" musicians these days. Maybe they turn to experimentation because if they played more traditional music their lack of talent would shine through.
EDIT - this is a continuation of my previous post not a reply to Glice |

WRONG. Not in Diamanda's case. You're probably right for a lot of experimental musicians - in fact, I'd mostly agree - but not Diamanda. No no no. |

You're so wrong to describe Diamanda as 'experimental', and demonrail as '80's'. People don't have respect for geniuses anymore . |
Did Lurker describe me as 80s? The cheeky sod. Have to say I'm flattered by the genius comment though. Thanks.

cheeky

blue pill time

Anyway, I definitely don't think Diamanda is a fraud by any means. Regarding the 80s thing, I honestly don't know what it is but there's something about her that just immediately makes me think of that decade. Did she ever release anything on Mute records or play at the ICA? Both of those tend to scream 80s at me.
|
I'm weak in bed with a fever today.
Please don't sodomize me in the street, Ms. Galas. |
Quote:
Both of those things, I'd imagine. But I see her as more Einsturzende than Nitzer. |
Yeah but Neubauten are another one. As much as I like them I do inevitably think of the 80s. They're like Bang & Olufsen, or cans of Top Deck.
|
I think it almost certainly proves you right that I have no idea what either of those things are.
|
I often day dream of making Diamanda Galas put her money where her mouth is.
Here's something from the internet that made me laugh: Superfan Gordon Gilbey-Burnett has been rockin the music scene since before rubber hit the road. Among other things, he claims to have given David Crosby his first line of coke. He also says that he was drawn into rock & roll initially as a child clairvoyant. But one person didn't want to listen. "I told the Big Bopper, I said 'Bop, don't get on that plane', recounts Burnett, 'I gotta funny feelin about this"! In the mid 70's he had a short lived band, Habeas Corpuscle, who never got around to playing live or even recording, which has left Burnett bitter, yet reflective. "I have forgotten more about music than you'll ever know"! boast's the Geeg after a few negroni's. And who knows, maybe he's right. For the past few yrs, Burnett has been frantically buying & trading contempo outsider releases, amassing a gigantic collection of New Weird America tapes, cdr's, cd's, lp's, lathe cuts, 10"ers, 7"ers, 3"ers, roll calls, et al. If you fall under that umbrella of sound, chances are he's got yr shit. "I have separated them into 2 camps" he explains, "DC & Marvel. For instance, band's like Wolf Eyes or Hair Police, they're DC. Matt Valentine, Wooden Wand, that sorta stuff is lumped into Marvel. I can't explain it. It's just easier that way." Dude, I hear ya! Presently Burnett is busy filling a notebook (in blue ink) w/the names & titles of all the music he has ever heard in his life. And in conjunction, he is also drawing charcoal illustrations of every band he can remember, whether he liked them or not. This Jukebox took place in a driveway in Camden, New Jersey. Mouthus Side Cousins Of Reggae/Mouthus Split lp (OESB, 2006) GGB-Let's see.....this is definitely a new release, right? SB- Yes, it's just out. GGB-I recognize it. It's DC material.
