favorite hardcore/metalcore records...

from the era 1994 to 2000. i'm ending it at 2000 because that's when it started to REALLY suck.

my list:
1. reversal of man- "revolution summer"
2. cave in- "until your heart stops"
3. snapcase- "steps" ep
4. converge- "petitioning the empty sky"
5. creation is crucifixion- "in_silco"
6. XXX comp (put out by ebullition)
7. the swarm- "old blue eyes is dead" ep
8. chokehold- "content with dying"
9. earth crisis- "firestorm"
10. scrog- "diSCROGaphy" (just for tampa's sake. i couldn't think of anything else)

Rob Instigator 02.16.2009 05:39 PM

I missed out on this subgenre. will check some out

Derek 02.16.2009 06:21 PM

If it's ending at 2000 then you can't include Converge's Jane Doe!

Toilet & Bowels 02.16.2009 06:31 PM

does will haven count as this type of stuff?

Toilet & Bowels 02.16.2009 06:32 PM

and is moshcore the same thing as metalcore?

well another reason i ended it at 2000 is because i started to lose interest in most of the music. well it might've been 2001. i did like that album though. you can include it if you want.

Toilet & Bowels 02.16.2009 06:38 PM

i really like will haven, but never really got round to checking out any other bands in the genre

lechaoscestmoi 02.16.2009 07:05 PM

well, i guess i should've mentioned screamo. i hate that term though. i just thought if people saw reversal of man they would know i ment more than just the popular hardcore of that time.

atsonicpark 02.16.2009 07:20 PM

True.

Orchid is definitely my favorite of those bands. Oh, and Employee, Employee..

oh man, I can't believe I haven't mentioned Yaphet Kotto. One of the best bands ever!

i liked orchid's "choas is me", but anything else i thought was just boring. yaphet kotto was a good one.

i really liked frail and portraits of the past.

atsonicpark 02.16.2009 07:26 PM

Since you like the swarm, I assume you like forcefed glass?

Saetia were amazing.

My favorite hardcore band BY FAR (though I think they came after 2000) is Tragedy.

i really liked the force fed glass/swarm split. mostly because the swarm's black flag cover.

saetia were overrated i thought, but had some amazing songs. yeah i liked tragedy a lot.

Union of Uranus, Three Studies For A Crucifixion, Assuck, Swallowing Shit, Man is the Bastard, Shotmaker. atsonicpark, you're probably familiar with His Hero Is Gone (members formed Tragedy) but if not, they're certainly worth checking out. i prefer them but Tragedy are killer

lechaoscestmoi 02.17.2009 07:03 AM

how about norma jean's first album "bless the martyr & kiss the child"?
i've always liked that one better than jane doe and calculating infinity.

Toilet & Bowels 02.17.2009 08:58 AM

i listened to to some of these bands on youtube, it all sounds a bit earnest or self-righteous, will haven is still the only one i like so far, will try more though.

Rob Instigator 02.17.2009 09:29 AM

I like Eniac. anyone dig Eniac?

his hero is gone was great. assuck wasn't half bad, but i think thats' because they're from tampa.

i think most of the bands that are mentioned are bands if you didn't like at a certain time you may not like now. i know if i didn't grow up listening to or seeing the bands i mentioned than i probably wouldn't bother trying to listen to them. that's just me though.

atsonicpark 02.18.2009 07:37 AM

Yes, his hero is gone were fucking awesome!

yeah, i can see that, i'm always on the look out for ultra heavy rock n' roll bands though

friendcatcher 02.18.2009 10:13 AM

i remember seeing his hero is gone in tampa and they were sick! they only played for about 15 minutes or so. there are a few live sets of them on youtube.

i remember when they were called lutikriss and sounded like a shitty christian version of the deftones. then i guess they changed their name and heard coalesce for the first time.

friendcatcher 02.19.2009 01:48 AM
