lil wayne's ROCK album?
so apparently lil wayne is making a ROCK album.. "Rebirth".. coming out on april 7th
single "prom queen" - http://youtube.com/watch?v=hKflA2xvGTE live - http://youtube.com/watch?v=DLAB6VlfaoQ ![]() |
autotune = cher`s strong enough
there isnt a bit which is good about it |
autotune CAN work. Depends.
Anyway, ppl are hilarious. PFork is already saying how horrible this album will be. I for one embrace an artist who attempts to step out of his comfort zone. Surely he will return to "straight up rapping" or whatever. But good for him. I mean, he's huge right now and still opting to not let himself get stagnant. (don't you... ever... get too... comfortable). I haven't heard "Prom Queen" yet, but there is a (presumable) track from the album on the LEAK 6 mixtape I just copped earlier this week. |
I dont wanna tlk shit about lil wayne, and yes he is pretty huge at the moment. but lets say if a rap artists switchs genres for 99% its stuff like that, isnt it?
and n this case there is this bad taste of "I wanna reach another 1billion people who buy my albums, lets try to get the money from the rock-crwod" sellout. do you know what I mean? I am not the biggest fan of him and I am no hater, I dont know enough to have a complete opinion about him. so please dont get me wrong :) and ye autotune can work. but I like it better in his raps, as an experiment. but most of the time autotune is a turn off for me, ESPECIALLY in strong enough, hahaha |
he's probably going to make it sound like linkin park.
|
Not terrible.
|
whatever. To each his own. I've been a fan of his for years. I actually listen to all the pre-Carter albums often, even. I think he's great, so I"m excited at the idea of him trying something else. If it works, then great. If not, well it'll be something he tried, and an interesting sidenote in his discography. No big deal.
|
I really, really hate autotune. That said, I can respect him for doing something different, but I have no desire to hear the results.
I'm listening to prom queen as I type this, and it's pretty bad. You know, I've never even really listened to Lil Wayne anyway. |
It's funny. There's a lot of ppl out there who've heard Lil Wayne, but never actually listened to one of this albums. An actual studio LP that's written and sequenced at such is a lot different than his millions of guest spots or even millions of mixtapes. Be that as it may, he has a handful of mixtapes that are better than most of his albums. But still, it's tough to judge an artist with such a vast discography if yr basing it on a small segment of his output. But really all my babbling is to say, dude's incredible.
|
eeeep. this record will go over big with all the pussy fucks who don;t know what ROCK is.
|
thanks for the input, Rob.
|
So, I haven't listened to that song.. is this him just rapping over guitars and shit? Lots of rappers have done stuff like this already. Puff Daddy's "All About the Benjamins (Rock Remix)", lots of crunk stuff has rock riffing. Kid Rock. Etc. All been completely TERRIBLE. Or is this him singing and stuff with guitar solos and stuff? That'll at least be funny.
|
its a mix of both
|
Really atrocious song. It makes Kid Rock and Linkin Park sound genius in comparison.
|
Yeah, the autotune is horrible. I've recently procured Tha Block is Hot and Carter's 1 and 2 for listening this weekend. I surprised at how much I enjoyed Tha Carter III, that being said, it did get old after a month or so.
|
I love weezy but I'm not terribly excited for this album. I don't look at him any differently, though. The carters 1 and 2 are two of the greatest rap albums ever. Seriously.
|
I'm listening to the song now and it's really not that awful. Wayne has made lots of songs that sound like this before.
|
I'm listening now.
The main riff sounds like a System of a Down song, can't remember the name. Haha, GUITAR SOLO!!! There are 2 guitar solos in this song! This shit's hilarious. I can't see anyone conventionally "liking" it though it's certainly entertaining and somehow sounds better than oh.. NO AGE, for example. |
it is not actually autotune. autotune is pitch correction. this is a pitchshifter, wavering faster and slolwer to make his voice sound robotronic, like kanye's new record. it is a new version of the old "reverb his voice real good to hide his singing flaws" thang. autotune is nefarious, because when it is used right, you can hardly tell they are using it. madonna uses it on every tour to crrect for 50 year old haggard breaths singing during her "dance numbers"
|
the lyrics of that prom queen song are really emo i thought, in the vein of simple plan etc.
|
..........
No, it's not a pitchshifter. I use a pitchshifter on every Robe. song I've done and you can't replicate that sound unless you're hooked up to another effects pedal and someone is constantly moving the knob up and down on both pedals at the same time and you might come close. Even then, it'll be a different sound... this is trendy, hip, autotuned studio corrected bullshit. Trying to think of a popular artist who have used a PITCHSHIFTER. I'm pretty sure Gwen Stefani has. That's all I can think of. |
lemo wayne
lil waynemo |
It will sound much like his rap output: wildly inconsistent, with moments of
"wow, that's something different and cool" mixed with moments of "is this guy fucking seriously reciting the alphabet?" |
His single sounds soooooooooooooo bad. Fucking hell, it sounds like he can't even keep a beat?

I can't even tell what the lyrics are in most of it. Something about sniffing your underwear or something. PROM QUEEN PROM QUEEN
|
i'm listening to that song for like the 10th time in a row.. still funny
|
Yeah, this will be a huge hit definitely. It's just so entertaining, you can't NOT listen.
|
Carter 2 is my favorite. Then Carter 3. Then a tie between Carter 1 and 500 Degreez.
|
I'm gonna stop reading this post. There's too many "haters" who made up their mind before listening for me to take anything seriously. Adam, I'm glad you at least gave it an honest listen. I'm out.
|
Haha.
Well, I give everything a chance if I can. I don't think it's conventionally good, and I hope the whole album doesn't sound like this but it's entertaining enough. That's all that matters. It's different. And the music is kinda catchy. |

it's different from his rap stuff, but no different from anyone of a number of piddling middle of the road "hard rockers"
|
the only artist that rivals this song's lyrics = fukkin GOOD CHARLOTTE
Take a look at my life, all black Take a look at my clothes, all black Like Johnny Cash, all black Like the Rolling Stones wanna paint it black and Woah, misery my company Woah, misery is looking for me |
those can't be actual lyrics to any band's songs...... can they?
There was this one guy who had a song that went "let's jet set, be like the Jetsons, you can be Jane my wife, choke down Mary Jane tonight" but I can't remember that guy's name. Jason Mraz or some shit. |

He's made a shit rap-rock single - it's hardly pushing the envelope, Metal Machine Music-style. |

I didnt say it was. I said it was outside of his comfort zone. Are you denything that? Like Kanye making an album of singing. Yes, singing has been done before. But not by Kanye. So it's trying something new (to the artist -- not to the world of music). |
|
This is not what I hoped Wayne meant when he said he'd be trying some rock stuff... I really think that if he actually wants to experiment he should team up with someone who really knows what they are doing, like trent reznor.
Not idiots who think that loud guitars are what constitutes rock music. The song kind of grew on me, but hold it up to a mili or any of his other recent singles and it just doesn't cut it. Also.. where is the weezy spirit in this one? No bizaare wordplay, not a whole lot of personality.. all and all a dissapointment as a follow up to Tha Carter 3 (his masterpiece in my mind) |
everything he has ever put out is a calculated persona, a costume, so this will be his "rock" costume.
|
i'm so amazed how people think of weezy like he's really an artist doing something different, an experimental artist even at that.
take tha carter III for example, if soulja boy or lil' jon had recorded that album, people would have fucking tear it up in a second, save "lollipop", "mr carter", the last track (if cut to half the lenght) and perhaps a third one; the rest of the album is easy listening rap songs with half assed hooks and the ones that aren't like that are shitty slick r&b with some rapping. BUT it's fucking lil' wayne, so he most be a godsend. in truth, lil' wayne is just an mc with an amazing flow, sadly something not seen often in mainstream hip hop anymore. "a mili" couldn't have been pulled off by just anybody and he did it. yet people think weezy is like fucking john cale or something, willing to try a noise/idm/math rock vein in his rock record. |
