ie vs firefox vs ?
 

with microsoft bringing out ie8 to try and win back some of the people they lost to firefox i thought i would ask which you prefer/recommend?

We've had some variation of this thread a thousand times. Firefox, by far, is the best browser ever. IE is by far the worst. Chrome sucks. Safari sucks. Opera has some cool features.

Firefox by a mile. Internet Explorer is fucking worthless.

I prefer Firefox but it's had some hick-ups lately.

Firefox ALL THE WAY. Opera is okay. Everytime I use Internet Explorer I always seem to get spyware... that says a lot.

I've been using Chrome a lot lately, asp care to explain why it sucks? Thusfar it's been the least taxing on my resources, has a good built in memory system for browsing and is aesthetically nice as well. The only downside is no plugins.

It's a difficult one, this. Because, ultimately, like Mac or Windows OSes, people use FF or IE because they like familiar things. The only people I know who faff about with other browsers are blind people (Opera wins on this count) or techie sorts. FF being a) massively popular and b) open-source ultimately means that techie sorts will err towards the fox. It wouldn't surprise me, however, if people start moving onto a different browser in due course. It's all about the geist, innit?

Incidentally, I'm putting money on Flock growing to 3rd most popular browser in the next few years.

a www.tnaflix.com-based browser? That'd be the shit! Haha. Also, I read recently read Chrome is even more unsafe than IE. I never used it, though. I used Safari and Opera before and ... Safari's okay, Opera has... I dunno. It's okay, it's just... meh. Firefox is just a beautiful lil program.

Firefox is the best, but Chrome is not too far behind. It's certainly more aesthetically pleasing. My major complaint is a lack of master-password, which is kind of essential at college.

Opera is for those who think that they are above FF. Everything Opera can do, FF can do.

Do they always go on about mouse gestures? That's one of the biggest guns they have in their arsenal for browser flame wars. I got an extension for FF that lets me use mouse gestures.

hahahaha He showed me all these hot key things, like pressing shift plus 6 plus [ will make your entire browser shut down and when it comes back up it's in a new resolution or some bullshit. Just all this ridiculous shit.

Yeah, Safari is god awful, and with IE, while Fire Fox is amazing. I've never used Opera or Chrome.

I use to only use IE. My computer slowed down whenever I opened a window. It's terrible I couldn't stand it anymore. So I got Firefox, and tried Safari during, but it blew, and I haven't found anything better than Firefox because all other internets suck.

Anything Apple does is just instantly crap targeted at the computer illiterate who think they are really trendy for using Apple products (case in point: iPods). Hence why Safari you must avoid.

Well, when it comes to Mac and Firefox users, age has something to do with it. I'm no techie, but since my parents didn't buy my current Mac for me, it required having a job where I get to play with Windows and IE all day.

So my preferences don't stem from familiarity so much as what I find works better for me. These days security is a pretty big issue, so running Firefox on a Mac strikes me as the safest way to go without having to upgrade anti-virus software that fights with your real software every day like the diehard Windows home users I know.

The few Mac viruses that have ever been detected have almost all used Safari and/or Quicktime flaws to get in, so Firefox on a Mac is definitely one of the safest ways to go. I don't like the interface with Safari at all. Microsoft stopped upgrading IE for Macs years ago (just in time for Apple to actually get some market share too!) Opera is kind of interesting, but damn, who wants to think about a frigging browser that much?

Opera's trying to jump back in the game now. IE is terrible, my workplace was stressed out because my entire page was destroyed when viewed in IE because I forgot a single display: inline tag. IE requires so many workarounds and it's too buggy.

Firefox has the Web Developer add on too. It's amazing. You can see a page's stylesheets, outline all the divs, tables and structure et. Free from Mozilla.

Oh, you in trouble now. Hipster's revenge. I own both, but i do love the fact that my Mac is Unix based. Way more stable O/S. BUT at the moment Firefox is acting up on the Mac, and not on the pc. I haven't figured it out yet. I think it's the add on's i have for it bc the Mac is more secure.

Yeah, firefox's add ons are the shit. I download videos off of youtube all the time if I think they might ve removed, with that one firefox plugin.

I like Firefox very much, for it's ease of use and many upgrades/options. I have to use IE at work, and frankly, it makes my teeth hurt at times.

You've hit on a good point there - various bugs and viruses exploit browser weaknesses. We've seen a fairly substaintial crack in IE recently (first week of January, was it?), and FF being the second most popular browser would suggest that the sort of people who exploit browsers will turn their attention to FF soon enough.

I'm in agreement with the cartoon - it's just a browser. FF proselytes are as irritating as anyone else (such as the sort of person who'd criticise a FF proselyte, ie, me).

I've had nearly the exact conversation haha. I was checking my email and my friend's brother hollas "OMG look at Rob on his MAC! How many games does it play? All two?". I love when gamer heads assume all computers are based on game-a-bility

No kidding. If I gave a fuck about video games, I'd buy a console. Photoshop and Garage Band (or Audacity, Audition, or any other passable recording softwear) are my favorite computer games.
