Ron Asheton RIP

If this report is true, then this is a sad day - the passing of an phenomenally talented and influential musician:

http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/...n_asheton.html

Rest in peace, Ron - you were a shining light in the world of music. :(

narlus 01.06.2009 09:18 AM

pokkeherrie 01.06.2009 09:37 AM

Fuck! R.I.P. indeed.

The Stooges were absolutely smoking when they opened a new club in Rotterdam only a few months ago. Sadly it must've been one of their last shows...

PAULYBEE2656 01.06.2009 09:42 AM

sad news!

greedrex 01.06.2009 09:44 AM

Florya 01.06.2009 11:36 AM

fugazifan 01.06.2009 12:00 PM

this sucks so hard.
i saw them like a year and a half ago (07/07/07) and they were amazing!
RIP

Derek 01.06.2009 12:07 PM

it seems really really unexpected. The Stooges seem like the kinda guys who'd live forever.

ricechex 01.06.2009 02:26 PM

Ron, oh Ron. You will always be fuzzed out to me.

no, Iggy's undead.

sarramkrop 01.06.2009 02:53 PM

One of the best and coolest rock guitarists ever. At his best he was everything that I like about rock music. R.I.P.

GravitySlips 01.06.2009 03:02 PM

really sad to hear about this, r.i.p.

o'connor 01.06.2009 03:09 PM

awe, me and a buddy were just talking about the stooges last night at the bar. ain't that a bitch. rip indeed.

SuperCreep 01.06.2009 03:21 PM

Wow, I can't believe it. I wonder what the hell happened.

RIP Ron. :'7(

viewtiful_alan 01.06.2009 03:52 PM

Man... talk about irreplaceable. Even when he was in his late fiftie's dude could still play those stooges' songs the way no other professional guitar guys iggy had over the years ever could.
Iggy better not continue with the Stooges name, not only because it would be a flat out lie, but also because its just disrespectful.
In any case.. R.I.P yer playin spoke to me at a time when I was real confused in my life (as stupid as that may sound, everything about those first 3 stooges albums spoke to me)

dazedcola 01.06.2009 04:54 PM

wow im devastated. Now i really regret not seeing the stooges live on their reunion tour. their will never be another band like them again only imitators.

Toilet & Bowels 01.06.2009 07:02 PM

i guess the lesson to be learned is that fat dudes shouldn't play in bands with mike watt.

A little anecdote a friend of mine just e-mailed me:

Quote:

I was doing an in-store signing in Los Angeles with Ron and the Empty Set and bought a copy of Fun House for him to sign for me. He cracked up when he saw me in line for an autograph, because I was in the fucking band! He was an awesome guy and I am grateful for having the memories of playing with him... I'm gonna have to dust off the fucking wah-wah pedal now.

jon boy 01.06.2009 09:09 PM

Death & the Maiden 01.07.2009 02:05 AM
