It does sound a bit like "Unwind", but not enough to be copyright infringement.

Unwind goes up in the second half of the verse, whereas Blame It On The Tetons goes down.

Because it doesn't sound that close. And trust me, I'd be the first to jump on Modest Mouse as unoriginal, shitty awful musicians. But really, you have to really stretch your imagination to say it sounds "similiar". Fleeting and distant similarities, yes, but it's certainly not a ripoff.

I've noticed this in the past as well, to my ears it sounds VERY similar.

prolly hence the name. SY are in the habit of giving their songs working titles that reference what the song sounds like, or is reminiscent of in terms of influences. in this case the working title likely stuck.

It sounds similar but oh well.

not so much. a note's just a note. you can play it thru a marshall, a mesa, a fender or a yamaha, but it would still sound just the same note.
