Can you recommend the best brush to use if I want to paint my drum set?

hehehehe probably, dpends on what you want painted on it tho. :P I'd use sable brushes for pinstriping or details, and airbrushing for big colour :P

I wanted to re spray my kit but never got around to it. Its kind of the colour of the SY board, but metalic.

I play the same kind of music I listen to, I'm not really great enough to make up my own that sounds any good... sometimes I try. I get more out of listening to beats and picking them up than making my own.

My favourites are probably the clash and the yeah yeah yeahs. the clash because they're fucking awesome fun beats to play, the yeah yeah yeahs because they're fun songs to play with friends.

I used to jam with friends also played instruments and liked to fool around couple years ago, but for the last year and a half I've been living out of boxes, so my kit has been away for the last 12 months. When we made our own toons it was somewhere between 60's psychadelic and 90's riot girl rock.

everyone can draw, some people are better at realistic expression, though everyone can depict their ideas effectively with a little education. It's the same as anything in life.

Everyone can learn to ride a bike. Some people love it so much that they ride every day and make it their life. Other people just do it every so often, and so usually arent able to ride as well as those who practice every day.

find a local art jam and get some montanas or crayolas out! You're in melbourne for gods sake, EVERYONE in melbourne is an artist of some description ;)

Just get him to measure up his bass drum for you and create those dimensions on photoshop, if you have it. Then create your work either real life or computer.. scan it in and fit it to the size.. then.. laser cut vinyl is your best friend. Maybe look on google for a place near you that can print for you, or in your yellow pages. :D

I wouldnt suggest anything else, as you're already going to be having a little impact on the sound by doing that, anything oil based would probably do a fair bit of damage to the skin and that wouldnt be fun. :( Plus, if they ever want to change it without re-skinning the drum, peeling off vinyl will be easier than scraping off acrylic..
