Whatever happened to Boards of Canada?

Aren't we well overdue hearing something new from them, eg. a new album? It's been over 3 years, and theres nothing out there suggesting pending releases. Anyone heard anything about where they've been all this time?

noisereductions 09.16.2008 03:27 PM

Each drum hit or synth note they program takes them 5 and a half weeks, so......

SYRFox 09.16.2008 03:27 PM

They've always taken time between releases, there was four years between Music Has The Right... and Geogaddi, and then three between Geogaddi and The Campfire Headphase.
But yeah I would totally like to hear something new from them, Campfire Headphase was really good, all their albums are great to my mind. Let's hope together for a 2009 release

This is a normal waiting time for BoC releases. There was four years between MHTRTC and Geogaddi, and 11 years between the time they formed and their first proper album.

Aphex Twin has been holding out on us for nearly the same amount of time. In fact, given that Chosen Lords was a "best of" of the Analord series, it's been 7 years since his last "proper" album.

atsonicpark 09.17.2008 02:22 AM

Everyone is board of them.

ZEROpumpkins 09.17.2008 04:56 AM

They're both brothers aren't they? They were probably making music together before they learnt to ride bikes without stablilizers.

ZEROpumpkins 04.19.2009 10:27 PM

Album later this year, apparently.

chairman of the bored 04.19.2009 10:44 PM

PAULYBEE2656 04.20.2009 05:54 AM

new album out soon..

i really hope its at least 10 times better than the campfire headphase...that was poor as milky tea.

jimbrim 04.20.2009 03:21 PM

I quite like the last album

SYRFox 04.20.2009 03:25 PM

yeah, i enjoyed the campfire headphase, though it's obviously not as good as geogaddi or music

geogaddi > music > tch

Danny Himself 04.20.2009 03:25 PM

Is there a band called Beards Of Canada yet? There should be.

SYRFox 04.20.2009 03:26 PM

i really really hope there'll be a new album out this year. 2009 is already a fantastic year, and this would be fantastic as well.
btw, Aphex Twin could release one too, innit? Seeing how he's playing gigs lately...

Fleet Foxes wanted to be called that but then they realized they were from Seattle

ZEROpumpkins 04.20.2009 10:42 PM

What is up with the campfire headphase hate? I think it's up to their usual standards.

PAULYBEE2656 04.21.2009 11:01 AM

i just think its ploddingly alongingly bland.....

chairman of the bored 04.21.2009 02:12 PM

New album might be finally on the way.

E. Noisefield 02.28.2012 08:45 PM

I've never been blown away by them either, but I like all their albums. I'd download and enjoy a new record, but they'll never be one of my favorite bands.

I feel like they used to be, though. Like I used to be, like, totally wowed by them. I was probably just getting some really good ecstasy at the time.

Gulasch Noir 02.29.2012 02:31 AM

I like most of theirs very much, in particular Music has the right to children & the Hi Scores EP.

Ah yes. The "wow I can feel the music! " years. I remember them well. Unfortunately boards are not as exciting now that I've removed hallucinogens from my diet.

Campfire... of great background music and surely one of the keenest electronic records of its era, but I'm not actively awaiting new material. If it comes ill listen.
