Zen Arcade or New Day Rising?

Two very important records of melodic punk. What one do you prefer?

For me, I think New Day Rising is better, seriously, some of the songs on that album get so intense. It also includes my favourite Husker songs, Folk Lore and The Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill.

Zen Arcade is an amazing album but I've always felt that the production and certain other things stops it from reaching it's full potential.

Opinion for this will be divided into two, so I'm interested in hearing your thoughts etc.

Rob Instigator 08.26.2008 02:01 PM

I wil go with new day rising, because the rush that side A gives me is unequaled, but I love allthe husker du stufff

greedrex 08.26.2008 02:01 PM

neither.
sorry.

Derek 08.26.2008 02:02 PM

Then what was the point in posting in this thread?

greedrex 08.26.2008 02:25 PM

i'm just cruising...
he he
and answering the question.

Derek 08.26.2008 02:30 PM

Oh okay hah, I was sort of looking for some constructive posts but yeah it's cool.

I'm still waiting on Rob, atsonicpark and all the other Husker fans to show up.

Rob Instigator 08.26.2008 02:48 PM

I put this album, new day rising, in a CDR I made of a ton of shit and sent to shentov. do not know if he listened to it or l;iked it. I put in all sorts of crap, a wide range.

I told him his band should cover new day risng and get the crowds in bulgaria a moshin'

greedrex 08.26.2008 02:49 PM

Q = "Do you prefer ketchup or mayo?"
A = "Neither, don't like."

is that constructive enough?
no offence
he he

Pax Americana 08.26.2008 03:01 PM

Zen Arcade.

Pookie 08.26.2008 03:06 PM

Not only is New Day Rising the best Husker Du album, it's in my top 10 albums of all time.

Zen Arcade is great but too patchy.

gmku 08.26.2008 03:11 PM

Zen Arcade, hands down. Not only is the music awesome, but also can you beat that freaking album cover!? Plus I got it on clear blue vinyl, so...

mangajunky 08.26.2008 03:13 PM

New Day Rising.

atsonicpark 08.26.2008 04:38 PM

New Day Rising has a lot of my favorite songs on it but as a whole, Zen Arcade is the one. It's perhaps a bit too long but I wouldn't have it any other way.

SuperCreep 08.26.2008 04:58 PM

Zen Arcade works better as an album and the production on NDR is poop. So yeah, Zen all the way.

Not saying I don't love NDR btw.

batreleaser 08.26.2008 05:31 PM

not really a comparison. "new day rising" is a fantastic ep no doubt, but zen arcade is just fucking epic. eppiccc.

Everyneurotic 08.26.2008 09:09 PM

land speed record.

uhler 04.01.2009 01:41 PM

"zen arcade" has a lot of my husker songs on it, so i will have to choose that one, but i sure love "new day rising". both albums are their best records. i love "everything falls apart" too.

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 04.01.2009 03:00 PM

While Zen Arcade has some great tunes, about half the material on it kind of bores me. It just lags. So New Day Rising.

noisereductions 04.01.2009 03:02 PM

"Blue Green Eyes"...

ha ha yeah i'm so good. amazing posting skills.

ZEROpumpkins 04.01.2009 05:29 PM

Zen Arcade. The song writing is better I say. New Day Rising relies more on it's energy than Zen Arcade does so It's a bit hard to compare in a way.

demonrail666 04.01.2009 06:18 PM

so what's the result?

Dead-Air 04.01.2009 10:01 PM

Put me down for Zen Arcade. Back when I did a six hour radio show at KAOS from midnight to 6 AM on Sunday nights, I was known to play the whole thing through from time to time.

Andrés 04.01.2009 11:02 PM

new day rising all the way!!!!!!!!!

vulva 04.01.2009 11:55 PM

This thread got me to finally check out this band.

zen arcade for me

Green_mind 04.02.2009 11:42 AM

"How to skin a cat" reminds me of a ren and stimpy gag.
I've never heard Zen Arcade, can anyone recommend any good songs of it for me to check out?

finally heard zen arcade. It was fun. Not sure if I'll listen to it again any time soon, but I did like it.

Keep listening to it. When I first got it I listened to it like 5 times in a row and look what happened!

mikec 04.02.2009 09:37 PM

New Day rising

narlus 04.03.2009 12:17 PM

new day rising

PAULYBEE2656 04.13.2009 06:21 AM

neither..land speed record....

[Sandbag] 04.13.2009 08:59 AM

zen arcade

batreleaser 04.13.2009 09:16 AM

of course while i like all pre-major husker, my faves are zen arcade and land speed record for obvious different reasons. land speed for the fact that its as heavy, fast, an unique as any of the best hardcore albums, and zen arcade because up to that point it was the mosd ambitious record made by a punk band. a psychedelic masterpiece it is.

batreleaser 04.13.2009 09:18 AM

speaking of great hardcore/rock n roll albums, did anyone hear the re-issue of middle class's 'out of vogue', its really awesome. Inbetween the pure rage of Black Flag and the witty avant-retard punk of Angry Samoans.
