Good British Rock Bands

I'm finding hard to think of good current British Rock bands.
Obviously we've had loads in the past but right now we're looking bleak

I got
Mogwai
Super Furry Animals (sort of current)
PJ Harvey
Elbow (? i mean they've gone a bit funny now, but the 1st 2 albums were stunning. And everyone loves a fat cheery northerner dont they?)
Spiritualized

but other than that i'm blank
help me out? i'm not exactly on the pulse these days so what am i missing

ZEROpumpkins 08.15.2008 03:47 AM

Radiohead

Mogwai are Scottish.

I'm pretty sure in the context it implied England.

Hahaha, the merozwb jokes are easily getting an instant classics here.
I'd rep you but I can't.

MellySingsDoom 08.15.2008 05:13 AM

Ramleh
PJ Harvey
Radiohead
The Fall (still going strong!)
Godzilla Black

On the more metal/doom end:

Anaal Nathrakh
Moss
Electric Wizarrd (still good, if not as genius as they once were)
Jesu

_slavo_ 08.15.2008 05:15 AM

I used to like Hood and Disco Inferno quite a lot. Both bands dysfunctional now.
Now I dig Rameses III and Gareth Hardwick much more.

demonrail666 08.15.2008 05:52 AM

I'd say that the Doom scene is the only place where British Rock seems to be making any kind of impact at the moment. And even there it seems to be becoming less and less interesting by the hour.

Danny Himself 08.15.2008 05:55 AM

I hate this country.

DeadDiscoDildo 08.15.2008 06:02 AM

The fucking Band of Bees.

It's happening now, you time capsul sluts.

skullflower
the heads
the velvet velvet spicerack
corsano/flower
thought forms

MellySingsDoom 08.15.2008 06:51 AM

T&B - Great call on The Heads - I totally forgot about them.

blunderbuss 08.15.2008 06:55 AM

This is a tough one, seeing as I wouldn't consider any of the bands in the original post to be rock.

If asked for a decent British ROCK band, rather than indie rock, I'd nominate Capricorns.

MellySingsDoom 08.15.2008 06:56 AM

^^^Are they still going? I can't work out whether they've split up or not...

blunderbuss 08.15.2008 07:03 AM

They released a new CD last month.

MellySingsDoom 08.15.2008 07:05 AM

Ah good - must keep an eye out for that, then.

Toilet & Bowels 08.15.2008 08:34 AM

Taint

demonrail666 08.15.2008 08:37 AM

Bum Gravy. Still pushing the sonic envelope after all those years.

Toilet & Bowels 08.15.2008 08:47 AM

Stereolab
Broadcast (not so much on record, but certainly they're a rock band when they play live)
Ectogram
Electralane
Skill 7 Stamina 12
AMP
The Go! Team
Movietone
The Bevis Frond

-Metal Bands-
Emit
Benighted Leams

Yeah, I saw a poster for them a month or so ago, playing at the Walthamstow Standard I think. A double headliner with Dumpy's Rusty Nuts. You can't argue with a bill like that.

thats fair enough. I meant guitar rather than electronic as the British electronic scene is pretty fucking impressive

Toilet & Bowels 08.15.2008 09:16 AM

saying something is indie rock but not rock doesn't make sense. surely indie
rock is just a sub-genre of rock?

blunderbuss 08.15.2008 10:25 AM

Yeah, but there's rock and there's RAWK!!!!!!!

More importantly, Demonrail, did you really see a poster advertising a gig for DRN? I saw them in about 1987 - they were brilliant!

i really love british music. for some reason, even thier most simple straight ahead rock bands, are somehow interesting, creative, and a little more wild than thier peers (the beatles anyone?).

SonicBebs 08.15.2008 01:18 PM
