sonic youth song you most enjoy

ask your wife/husband/best friend which sonic youth song you seem to be enjoying the most when you're listening to them. and tell us the result. no cheating now:mad:

Crumb's Crunchy Delights 07.01.2008 07:27 PM

my guard says i always seem to be enjoying bubblegum the most

atsonicpark 07.01.2008 10:35 PM

cross the breeze...

is the response i get the most.

viewtiful_alan 07.02.2008 01:42 AM

Strange thread.
Apparently Hey Joni gets me pretty pumped according to my friend.

acousticrock87 07.02.2008 01:45 AM

Uhhhh. I think usually my friends say something like, "Is that Sonic Youth again?" So...they might be a terrible source when looking for a specific name.

If they knew titles, they'd probably say Eliminator Jr. (which is definitely not my favorite song).

pop punk will eat itself 07.02.2008 02:04 AM

Kool Thing, and it is a world away from my list of faves.

Cantankerous 07.02.2008 03:08 AM

ummmmmm hold on

helen lundeberg and hyperstation

Thor Anders Aase 07.02.2008 03:12 AM

Sunday is my goodmoodsong...

SonicBebs 07.02.2008 03:24 AM

my wife hates sonic youth (she doesn't, but she wont admit to that) and she doesn't know any of the songs. I rarely play them when shes around but i have made her listen to Washing Machine before, the bit where it changes. So lush. so she'll probably say that.
But i think its still Rain On Tin

madelinear 07.05.2008 01:11 AM

most definitely orange rolls, angel spit. i uhhh sing the guitar part whenever it's on...

deflinus 07.05.2008 01:23 AM

andrei 07.05.2008 01:47 AM

diamond sea, sugar kane and 100% are the only songs my friends ask me for, and total trash requested by my father.

EMMAh 07.05.2008 01:51 AM

None one else I know listens to Sonic Youth.

HECKLER SPRAY 07.05.2008 03:26 AM

Catholic Block.
Or Expressway to your skull. I don't know.
Ask it to my girlfriend.

greedrex 07.05.2008 03:16 PM

becuz, followed closely by Skip tracer.
i know every word and every note from these two songs by heart.

Sonic Youth 37 07.05.2008 04:56 PM

Teen Age Riot
Diamond Sea provokes a lot of emotion too.

Dead-Air 07.05.2008 05:08 PM

Just asked my wife, and after several "no clues" she finally said "Death Valley '69, but really that whole album" which is pretty accurate though I'd personally have picked "Ghost Bitch" off of that album over "Death Valley '69". Regardless, yes Bad Moon Rising is my favorite record period.

I asked my son, and he said "Goo!", but then that's all he says so far.

diskaholic-anonymous 07.07.2008 04:26 PM

"total trash" from Daydream Nation, i love the noise section of that song.
A few days ago i saw this review: ( “Total Trash” incorporates a charmingly wonky boogie-woogie riff reminiscent of T. Rex before veering off onto a frenzied noise rock tangent, eventually righting itself at the six minute mark)...strange words...!

GrungeMonkey 07.07.2008 05:24 PM

i think teen age riot is the one i enjoy the most.. its tough... buts its such a cool rocking song, i always seem to do stuff faster when its on

crprte.idnty 07.07.2008 05:38 PM

the answer is:

purplebumblebee 07.07.2008 05:41 PM

Really??? I hope if they ever re-issue EVOL they'll leave disc one ending after EXPRESSWAY, because I always thought "Bubblegum" was a bit silly following that one.

Crumb's Crunchy Delights 07.10.2008 04:26 PM

my guard says he was mistaken and what he took as my enjoyment of bubblegum was just me choking on my muffin. he now says drunken butterfly

viewtiful_alan 07.10.2008 04:29 PM

You have a guard..?

diskaholic-anonymous 07.10.2008 04:46 PM

i think i saw this thread somewhere...i don't have a guard - what is a guard? - my answer depends if i have a guard or not? anyway today i love "Lee is free", tomorrow i don't know...!

atsonicpark 07.10.2008 04:47 PM

what's a guard?

Like.. a guard in a prison?

wontgetfooledagain 07.14.2008 06:56 AM

I recently played all of the Goo album for my lil brother, whose 13 and reportedly hates Sonic Youth, and the only song he knew before was Kool Thing...

Then, near the end of Disc 1, he heard the riff to Titanium Expose...

"okay, I guess Sonic Youth is okay. The riffs are hella catchy, but if they cleaned it up a bit it could be epic"

Exact quote =)

Next stop, Daydream Nation

viewtiful_alan 07.14.2008 01:39 PM

Haha that's pretty funny.
Welcome to the board.

I want my guitar to sound like a keyboard!

viewtiful_alan 07.14.2008 01:57 PM

Haha exactly.
THeir guitar player isn't talented for shit.
Horrible tone, no creativity, overall shit songs.
Crap band.

chicka 07.14.2008 03:15 PM

Johnny "Magic Fingers" 07.14.2008 10:53 PM

I've been listening to a lot of Breeders lately 'cause they're touring Melbourne (right now I am humming "Saints") and I'm seeing 'em... but regarding SY, my friend reckons I'm always doing the "lahh-la-la" bit from Little Trouble Girl, which is true..

FUCK! Now I got it my head!

"Remember mother? We were close, very very close"
(LAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LA LA....)

you won't hear me say it too much about Steve Albini, but I agree with him about Kim Deal's voice-- fantastic, one of the greatest.

Im seeing the Breeders in Adelaide....dasdfhasdfasdfcan't wait.

For SY songs I enjoy- New Hampshire, the momentum and rhythm are very addictive.

Death & the Maiden 07.15.2008 12:31 AM

If people watched me listening to music, they'd probably say Inhuman.

uhler 07.15.2008 01:57 AM

O_o Now, I fucking hate Dragon Force, and I can't listen to them for more than 10 seconds without wanting to shoot myself. But Herman Li is one talented motherfucker. There's no doubt in my mind that he could arrange and play any SY song note-for-note if he wanted. Not terrible on the creativity end, either--writing riffs like his is hard, akin to arranging classical music.

He's just boring as shit.

noisereductions 07.21.2008 08:26 AM

My wife said "Kool Thing." Shocked me.
