how do you deal with exam stress?
aside from actually studying to lessen exam anxiety the stress is starting to eat me up a little.
how do you constructively deal with this type of stress?.. |
go out with friends
get some fresh air run around in a park a little bit |
You either know the material or you don't. I never worry about it, unless they are finals then I am freaking out.
|
Generally I just listen to music, and sleep.
|
Coffee (and lots of it. This probably won't work for you, as I drink coffee before bed. It's a bad habit.)
Sitting outside and reading something other than course work Going for walks at night with my headphones on |
get hammered after you exams are finished, in time honoured tradition

i did that, i was stoned too though, then i fell off my friends trampoline. It hurt a lot the next day. :( |
By not being in school.

one way: i don't give a shit about the exam. i focus on what i'm going to do after-- like getting plastered, as t&b suggested. i don't mean don't study-- study, but just give it a "fuckit" attitude once you're there. always has worked for me-- i kick ass at exams even when i know little of the subject because i "stay loose" and my brain doesn't freeze due to nerves. and try to turn the anxiety into "excitement"-- a little stress makes you sharp, too much stress stupefies you. |
Graduate

haha. Right on. I just don't care about that stuff. In highschool I would just do the damn things and forget about them. If I did worry at all, it'd get too much and I'd get nonchalant about the whole thing anyway. |
Put your computer and monitor in the most inconvenient place possible. Thats what i plan to do next week.

check it, I figure if I study high, take the test high, I'll get high scores! ![]() but seriously, make sure you study in the process, it is the best combination for stress relief regarding exams. |
exam what? never had that, ever.
|
don't look at the whole. pretend you are a shark and take tastey bites out of each task and then thrash around in the water.
bonus points for biting off pieces of surf boards, super crown award for taking legs too. |
i used to just load up on adderal and not sleep till the exams were over, then take xanax and sleep for a couple days straight.
now that im trying to be healthier i just dont procrastinate. but exams so suck, especially for gened classes that dont have anything to do with that you want to have a career in. sometimes i feel like im going to college just to get my degree to satisfy my parents and not get cut off, if i had it my way id just start seriously playin wit my band. but no rush i guess, im only 20. |

I think you greatly misunderstand my concept of "high" here, I dont mean to judge, but that all sounds a little scary just for an exam. I agree with the suggestion above, the best way is to graduate, which after five years, I will be going in December. Take that America, a shiggity shat legit Rastaman, well eductated and degree-holding. |

Only twenty. Man, I just turned twenty and feel extremely depressed. I just don't want to get old. |

I feel the same way about college. Sometimes I think the stress is just too much for me, so I can't really give any advice on how ot deal with that either. Maybe I should major in something more useful than English. |
even lame as Marilyn Manson called it out,
"a pill to make you numb a pill to make you dumb a pill to make you anybody else.. but all the drugs in this world, wont save you from yourself." live healthy, be alive, dont kill your spirit with soul-numbing so-called medications [though ironically, even in Amharic, the language of Ethiopia, the term for medicine has a positive and dangerous conotation as well, I wonder why we cant just linguistically make these distinctions and call one "drugs" and the other "medicine." |
I only study a little bit, the day before or on the day of the exam. I don't stress out like other people who spend weeks studying. I also try to forget about the exam, and do something else like play guitar or read a book. My studying habits haven't made me do poorly in my exams, I usually do quite well.
|
I don't do shit. I learn it all the first time, and just study a bit, if at all, to reinforce what I know. No stress for me.
The only stress I have in regards to school is AP tests, and getting all my work done. It isn't that it is difficult, there is just so much, and one slip up can fuck you over (and by fuck you over, I mean to the standards to straight A's). |

all this "advice" is a bunch of horseshit
anyway, just don't sweat it, and best wishes SAY NO TO FEAR |
Quote:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. - Litany againt fear; Dune |

I'm used to huge exams-I study medicine in Italy (I remember I announced here my admission years ago...) and everyone is obsessed with theory, rather than practice... so it happens you waste you ass over exams for 6 years after that you know a lot about receptors, trasduction of signals, electrophysiology of ass'hair etc. while you can't almost measure blood pressure... it's a weird system.
I ve had exams which needed a preparation time of 3-3.5 months. it ends you breakdowm and it's really impossible to remember anything. now I compress a lot the studying time, reading/mentally repeating/sketching a fast scheme/rationalising. I'm very anxious in general (ask my girlfriend), but it happens I'm apparentely quiete for an exam while I dump all my tension over other relationships. I turn cynical and very acid, this is no good. Running is the best way to breath the stress out. using pills is for assholes. What pills would you take when you will have job interviews? or before your wedding (or any other "nervous" day) or after losing a job? I dont want to have a huge fibrotic liver at 40... nah... |

One way: Don't take the exams.
|
no more ewams for me.
Now i make pupils take exams. some of them even get to pass them. wow. |
Prepare yourself for failure, or even better, consciously decide to fail beforehand.
|
I still have the classic nightmare: I show up in class and everybody but me is prepared for the final exam. I take one look at the questions and can tell immediately that I don't know anything on the test. I wake in a cold sweat. I have it about twice a year.
