anyone here used to be straight edge? or still is straight edge? i was, once upon a time, a judge listening straight edge kid. i never beat anyone up though.

I didn't have a clue about straight edge until after I was a well seasoned stoner/drunkard. Song's still cool, though.

ive got nothing against leaving a clean and healthy lifestyle, but the term straight edge i think is lame. you dont see people who do drink going around going "im hard edge". i mean, theres so many more things to someone to identify themself as, why pigeonhold yourself as 'straight edge'. and those mega straight edge dudes who dont even fuck, thats just stupid. sex is good for the soul.

The few "straight edge" people I've met have made exceptions when it comes to sex. Figures.

almost all the straight edgers i knew loved to have sex. especially when not in a relationship. i never got that. i had sex though when i was in a relationship with someone, when i was edge.

now that i'm older i wonder why people still call themselves straight edge but when you're in your teens you usually identify with some sort of subculture. be it jock, punk, frat, indie, goth, emo and so on. but after a certain age you shouldn't need to go around calling yourself straight edge. you're just trying to relive your glory days or "salad days", by doing so. i also thought it was weird when 30 year old guys will be at shows where the crowd was mostly 16-20. i really thought it was weird when they would get blow jobs from the girls that were that much younger than them.

I don't smoke, I don't take drugs, I don't even drink alcohol - and that's a choice. I don't care about sex, as for the moment I have no partner. But I don't consider myself as straight edge really, I don't want to close my mind to a certain philosophy, I prefer being free - IMO I'm more free than people smoking,taking drugs, drinking alcohol, and are compelled to do it since they are addicted

I always hear the phrase 'I was' when in the same sentence as 'straight edge'.

well yeah that makes better sense than praying to st. mackaye, but still, not everyone who smokes/drinks/takes drugs is an addict.

i am addicted to cigarettes, so i don't smoke.

but i'm not addicted to alcohol so i drink when i want.

I don't smoke cigarettes because that was pretty much the only thing my mom told me to never do. Pot, LSD, fine in her book but she used to be a smoker and said she would never want that on her children.

But of course I tried it until I found the appeal and then stopped.

I went through a a really short phase of ignoring the cigarette in my mouth, the cock up my bum and the pint in my hand.

The few straight edge fellas I've met were all very cool. However, I hated the fact that all the gigs organized by this bunch of guys were strictly non-smoker ones and the only drink you could buy there was lemonade. Which was kind of lame and anti-do-as-you-please. A bit discriminating, if you please.

there is always something unsettling about striahgt edgers and i cant quite put my finger on it.

I've never understood those people who don't drink.

It's an easily-accessible, affordable stimulent which, when used in moderation, can merrily enhance just about every experience - and some people think they're clever for not having it?

I work with one, and he can often be heard shouting 'Ive got a coffee rush! Woooh!' on a morning, which makes me want to punch him in the face for several reasons.

Straight edgers are easily as entertaining as people with hemp necklaces and pot leaf-themed t-shirts, and associating with only "edge" people is pretty much the flipside of having friends that are only your friends because you do the same drugs. In other words, it's kind of a funny thing to base one's identity around, and it has the added bonus of making you look like an uptight, sanctimonious ass. Might as well go all the way and wear a bow tie.

i don't think i've ever met a straight edge, i can understand the appeal for teens though, rebeling against peer pressure & stuff.

My peer group while growing up included people who drank, people who did a lot of drugs, people who experimented a little, and people who did none. There was ZERO so-called "peer pressure" with regard to alcohol, drugs and cigarettes. Most of our cliquishness was based on music (and to some extent, outlandish dress, though a lot of our friends were pretty "regular" looking too).

I know two straight-edge guys. They're both married. One guy is totally working class, he's a welder. The other guy is a criminal defense lawyer. The lawyer grew up in a really crappy neighborhood where he saw lots of friends get involved with heroin and crack so there's his inspiration. The welder guy likes to brew his own root beer and he knows all the good roads to ride.

i never liked boozing as teen, and so i didn't do it and people all thought there was something wrong with me. not my friends, more just other people i'd meet. they took not boozing as being akin to not enjoying hanging out, or being bothred by other people boozing, i could see a lot of people thought that by not drinking i was casting judgement on those who do.

ex smokers can be the worst people.

i think sunday afternoon/evening. maybe tonight at 1 in the morning too. i forget what the website said. if you miss it though you're not missing a lot.

i had my first beer when i was twelve, my first cigarette at 13, by the time i was 14 i was sick of it because everybody in school was getting drunk on the weekends and drunk driving, i thought it was retarded and i really didn't want to be like them at all, so i kept clean.

but i wasn't straight edge, mainly because i didn't know what straight edge was, secondly i wanted to be me, not be some guy who was a punk or a metalhead or a goth or shit like that, i didn't want to belong. i didn't tell people what to do either, i couldn't care less about people.

on my last year of high school, i started smoking and would drink every once in a while, it wasn't like a hard set of rules .
