I know a convulsive liar.

"No, honestly, I've just been working out a lot"

According to my grandmother, my deceased bio-dad was a compulsive liar, but he was apparently also so charming that she didn't care. She liked him a lot, but never believed a thing he said.

I'm glad, such a shame to see 'that sort of humour' get lost.

I've known a few in my time. The only thing you can do, is disown them or make sure you don't depend on them for anything.Always back yourself up with suspicion and investigative measure. However, the latter is just exhausting and somewhat akin to self-harm. It's a form of self-hatred, but I'm a believer that you can't teach people anything and that they only have the ability to learn.

Is he/she a 'close' friend, or just in your circle of friends?

I went with the disown method and I hear, he's coming on leaps and bounds. His current partner, seems as though she takes no shit though.lol (that's right 'lol' )

I think liars are funny, why piss on their little world, if it makes them happy I don't see what the problem is...plenty of people appear a certain way of internet forums and they're probably nothing like that in reality.

i suppose if i was you i just wouldn't bother calling him, and if he asked me to hang out i'd say i was busy or something.

Compulsive liars are different though, it's a mental health issue. Sure you take people online with a pinch of salt. But it's an annonymous form of communication, so even if what they're saying isn't necessarily true to their character, what they're doing and trying to achieve is an insight. It shows what they would be like in a world with no consequences, at the very least.

i have a gullble friend who i always make up ridiculous outrageous lies too just to see him nod and say, "wow thats crazy", and then i laugh and tell him what an idiot he is for believing my bullshit.

other than that, we all lie, dont we?

compulsive liars usually make things up to make themselves feel better, almost believing their own lies. its really strange.

Since he's a liar, how do you know he's telling the truth about the personal trauma story?

Ask him something simple, and whatever he answers, say, "You're lying." See how he reacts. See if the next response sounds more like a lie than the first. If it does, all is hopeless. Get this guy to an intervention or dump him.

its not a close friend really and its more amusing than anything else. i mean we all know that he does it but its just strange considering the way they used to be.

ALIEN ANAL 04.10.2008 07:53 AM

This is almost a carbon copy of what I've been through. However, the person of whom I speak, was probably my closest friend, so it did affect me much as it would in any symbiotic relationship.Very harshly. This person was highly intelligent, and even called others out for such offenses, also very harshly. It is quite stange, especially when, you've known the person nearly all your life, as well as someone of such intelligence, being so hypocritical . They construct realities and multiple pesonalities for themselves, so they can carry on living, in the face of such plainly immoral behavior. It is strange, but I have to admit, quite an interesting workout for the mind(now I'm sounding like some sort of zen master-almost).In the end I severed contact, as I realised that I was perhaps helping to fuel this somehow.Although detrimental to me, this move appeared to be the right one for my friend, which is really all I cared about ultimately. Now in a relationship and seeming more like the guy I knew when we first started to hang. I have many theories as to what the cause of his problem was. However, if watching Taxi Driver has taught me anything, it's such people by nature, tend to be recidivists. As a side note,I'm sure he'd love to here me comparing his mind-state to Taxi Driver, since he always had a 'thing' for Deniro.heh

With time, I like you have learned to find the humour in it and although we no longer talk on the same level as we once did ( more like the way one would communicate with a work colleague than a 'friend') I still remain fairly concerned about his well being and the well being of others that fall unwittingly under his 'spell'.

As this has happened to me more than once.I've come to the conclusion that I'm either attracted to these people, or they're attracted to me, which again as a concept is quite a juicy, interesting and humourous one, to get ones 'brain teeth' into.Especially,if like me, you have barely no friends, enough spare time to ponder such things and your closest friend isn't even of the same species.heh.
