TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS
one time only REUNION event!!!!!!!!!!! FRIDAY - JUNE 13TH // EARLY SHOW & LATE SHOW (8PM/11PM DOORS) http://knittingfactory.com/show.php?event_id=111664 http://knittingfactory.com/show.php?event_id=114435 ----------------------- To commemorate the publishing of NO WAVE: Post Punk, Underground, New York, 1976-1980 edited by Thurston Moore and Byron Coley and published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., the Knitting Factory NYC is proud to present the one time only return of the most legendary of No Wave pioneers TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS. Started by Lydia Lunch in 1976 in a NYC landscape at its peak of rot and desecration TEENAGE JESUS THE JERKS spared no one. A complete disinterest in favorable audience response and a vicious leer towards any rock n' roll burnout critique distinguished TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS not only from the burgeoning punk fodder of the CBGB/Max's axis but of their contemporaries in the No Wave scene as well. Led by notorious teenage downtown death-kitten Lydia Lunch the band had within its fold for its barely three year existence saxophonist James Chance who departed early on to form The Contortions. Other members included bass player Reck who returned to Japan to continue with the infamous Friction, bass player Gordon Stevenson who died, drummer Bradley Field who died, and bass player Jim Sclavunos who played with many No Wave acts of the time and went on to play with Sonic Youth in the early 80s and, for the last decade or so, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. The band recorded the most incendiary documents of the era on the NYC label Lust/Unlust and French label ZE. Atavistic Records is issuing a complete TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS compilation in June 2008. The band will feature Lydia, James Sclavunos on drum and a lost member of TJ&TJ on bass. Also on the bill will be a supporting act from the ashes of the original NYC No Wave nightmare. Don't be late, it will be over before you know it. http://www.timeout.com/newyork/tonyblog/?p=3236  |
This gets me hot.

"Also on the bill will be a supporting act from the ashes of the original NYC No Wave nightmare."
Have a bleedin guess who that might be - |
It must be the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

James Chance & The Contortions? I think they are practically the only ones or at least James Chance that is still doing music and playing live with some sort of regularity it be awesome if Mars and or DNA would play again, just once though, just once... |
well isn't it obvious it will be SY?
how many threads?
Too many. Maybe I should just buy tickets.
no fucking way
Quote:
Moshe ftw. |
I'd much rather see James Chance or DNA or Mars etc, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are not no wave and were way too late to ever be considered part of it.
I was JOKING!
Moshe you've become some kind of guru, now you can make us believe anything you say :)
Quote:
Moshe, you think you're joking but who else could it be? The line is very specific 'from the ashes of no wave' so it wouldn't one of Mark Cunninghams or Brancas bands and that wouldn't have to be a secret anyway...if they were playing the line wouldn't be ashes it would be 'secret band with no wave pioneers" shit, I guess I'm gonna go for the 11 pm show, and Vision fest lineup was just announced too... |
i was joking about the yyy's not sy.
Quote:
gotcha... I think I'm gonna go to the 11 pm show. It could get loose especially if someone shows up with a bag of QUAALUDES!!!!! |
According to an anonymous tip, it seems the sensible rumour going around about the "mystery" bassist appearing with Teenage Jesus & the Jerks will be the one & only Thurston Moore. Definitely makes sense...
well if it is sy, id go to both shows, any word on how the tix are selling?
yeah if sy is definitely playing, im fucking there. i need to KNOW
Quote:
what if it's swans? |
Theoretical Girls? I have no idea, just taking a guess.
There should be a contortions reunion
This is exciting. Lydia Lunch will take revenge on all of us.
tickets are definitely selling fast - i know about a quarter of the tix have already sold in the first week. thinking it'll sell out by the end or mid april.
i'd get tix sooner. to avoid ticketweb.com taxes you can buy them walk-up direct from the knitting factory box office (74 leonard st) w/ no extra fee's. |
Quote:
and then check out Kim's show across the street... |
that as well as thurston's book release party too.
That show is gonna rock
any word on if thurston's playing bass and/or who's opening?
lydia looks hot in that pic.
I was thinking about going to this because I will be in town that week but I'm not really a big Teenage Jesus fan, just thought it would be cool. But if Sonic Youth is indeed playing then I will go, maybe I should just buy the tickets? Only $20...
Did you know that Lunch didn't wear any underwear at Kim and Thurston's wedding?!
shows like this make me feel like a porn freak. here i am wishing i could be there, but i can't. fucking IL vs. NYC

Video Hysterie (1978-2006)
Lydia Lunch ![]() RELEASE DATE: JUNE 10~! This comprehensive visual retrospective of Lydia Lunch's musical collaborations from 1978-2006 is an incredible representation of her approach to art. Hailed by the Boston Phoenix as "one of the 10 most influential performers of the 90's", no other artist of the 20th century has fought, forged, punched, and sculpted their own artistic vision in such a unique and original way. Defying categorization, Lunch actively has conquered new territories, and has gained international recognition for the innovative quality of her work. Robert Palmer from THE NEW YORK TIMES writes "Miss Lunch was always an effective vocal performer. But rock has grown complacent again -- even the underground rock that has borrowed so much from Miss Lunch's various bands over the years. Perhaps it's time for her to administer it a few more rude shocks. Featuring footage from TEENAGE JESUS & 8-EYED SPY, VH is an indispensible compendium & cornerstone; approx 70:00, Dolby 5.1, photo gallery feature, PLUS complete disc/film/bibliographies. Track Listing: *TEENAGE JESUS AND THE JERKS Orphans I Woke Up Screaming Freud in Flop Race Mixing Baby Doll Instra-mental *8-EYED SPY Sorry for Behaving so Badly Innocence Boy Girl Motor Oil Shanty Swamp Run Through the Jungle *SHOTGUN WEDDING: Blood Is Just Memory Cisco Sunset *ROWLAND S. One thing I remember from 82 or 83 in an old Take It! newspaper and henceforth was Byron Coley's unrelenting and overwhelming praise for Information. I've never heard ANYTHING by these guys. My issues are in storage unfortunately so I can't pull out the review...I just recall Coley reviewing their cassette there and saying it was the greatest ever or something very positive along those lines, not that Coley is ever given to hyperbole.
I'm guessing that among the old cognoscenti the Information reunion is of more interest than Lydia and the one original Jerk with the fill-in players... |
