Thurston Moore - Sensitive/Lethal
Sensitive/ Lethal Sensitive/Lethal is Thurston Moore in deep basement cosmosis. Investigations into acoustic guitar as noise instrument as well as noise/amp discussion for a hopeful and bright blackness Childhood dreams of noise essayed with photos of unsuspecting innocents running from noise weirdo (front cover) and texas blues albino drug zap (johnny winter– still alive and well detail– back cover). This is the story told in drone meditation and sweet slice. NFP-30 Religious Knives 'Resin' CD Since their first release for No Fun Productions, the collection of early LP's/singles entitled 'Remains', the Religious Knives have grown into a stunningly assured and powerful rock n' roll band of sorts, one liberally and noticeably immersed in the smoke-addled haze of the psychedelic underground. Resin marches ahead with a vigorous potency that accurately shares its bloodline with the best psychedelic acts of the past. This is Brooklyn's true Psychedelic Rock. somebody has gotta YSI this...dirty.
Just like Free/Love...which was fantastic. |
review from vital weekly:
Timeless and without comparison though, is the new Thurston Moore solo album. More intricate then, say, his work as Bark Haze, much more listenable too (even if the little girl on the cover doesn't agree). The first track is layer over layer of guitar, but nothing gets out of hand, it sounds rather balanced. A backbone of acoustic guitar is backing up a frontal guitar freakout, and they work perfectly together. After a nice short middle track the final one rips up the scene to pieces, a quite noisy affair though still very enjoyable. I wouldn't mind hearing more of this stuff from Mr. Moore... Sounds good.
I like the cover too. Hope to receive it asap. |
funny cover, is that t's poem inside ?
|
got my copy from no fun prod. and i have to say it is probably the best solo noise recording thurston has done in some time now, i'd have to agree with david keenan's (@ volcanic tongue) assessment of the cd... love the layers and layers of guitar/noise tracks on the first piece, works really well and i like how the fidelity isn't such that it wasn't recorded to a boombox and you can actually pickup alot of nuances in the sounds.

Really enjoying this at the moment... one of his very best I think.

I have to agree. This might be the best noise album from Thurston. |
hell yeah i like it too, it's good noise from T.
|
and i love the cover!
|
the cover is genius. does it compare to anything he has done before? Is it drone (sometimes that gets boring)? or is it more of a guitar attack session? does he strum the strings at all? :)

That's actually a pretty good review. Good meaning, I like the background the reviewer gives. And he makes a good point about T getting away from playing with the free jazz dudes, and getting more into the noise dudes. To be honest, I was far more interested in the sets he'd do with say a drummer and saxaphone players, etc. Discs like PIECE FOR JETSUN DOLMA or THE PROMISE -- or omg -- HURRICANE FLOYD !!!!! |

I dnt have that one. I have probably a dozen of T's freejazz outings. But that's note one of them. But I'm pretty sure that HURRICANE is my all time favorite (of the ones I have).

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt???? ????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!! what are you waiting for? Have you actually listened to it at all? |
Definitely one of the albums of the year, along with SYR 8. The layers and structuring still blow me away with each listen.
|
I actually found this at a barnes and noble over the summer. I got it and actually really liked it.
I always feel weird praising noise though.. |
I got it and it didn't do it for me...

I feel weird praising noise too since I don't listen to it a lot but this record was really good, in my opinion. By the way, B and N really had it? |
Yes, they did. I was quite shocked and felt like I had to buy it, so that they might order other products in that vein. This is the same b & n that had Boris' pink and sunn o's black one.
