Recommend me some spacey atmospheric music

I'm making a mix cd that so far has some Bruce Haack, Joe Meek, Silver Apples and Robert Fripp on it, can anyone recommend anything else to go on it? I don't really want stuff that's heavy on guitar like Hawkwind, it's more to do with atmospherics and mood

Suggest away please!

Florya 03.20.2008 11:06 AM

Rainbow Dome Musick by Steve Hillage
Anything by Harold Budd
Apollo by Brian Eno

Throw in some Hash Jar Tempo.

atsonicpark 03.20.2008 12:31 PM

Some songs from White Noise's "An electrical storm" and some Red Krayola would work well..

atsonicpark 03.20.2008 12:32 PM

yeah- should have read what he wanted, just read Bruce Haack, activated the dysfunc-brain mode and started to dance on the laptop keyboard.

sorry

krastian 03.20.2008 01:05 PM

I didn't read it carefully enough....they would still work for his mix.

johnnywinternoshow 03.20.2008 02:19 PM

Just checked out Harold Budd and Raymond Scott, good stuff so far. How did I forget Sun Ra, good suggestion!

Savage Clone 03.20.2008 02:30 PM

Troum
Amp
Windy & Carl (OK, so this is guitar-based technically speaking, but it hardly matters)
Klaus Schulze (earlier stuff, "Cyborg" in particular)
Salubrious Invertebrae

Yeah. You're pretty much golden with anything from Alpha Centauri to Ricochet.

Electronic Meditation is the best Tangerine Dream LP to these ears.

Torn Curtain 03.20.2008 03:13 PM

The instrumentals on Low and Heroes
Serge Gainsbourg - most tracks from L'homme à tête de chou
Tim Buckley - Lorca or songs like I woke up or Song to the siren
Kraftwerk
Hood - Cold house

These are must have's in the ambient catagory:
Selected Ambient Works Vol II by Aphex Twin
UFOrb by The Orb
Orbs Adventures Beyond the Overworld by The Orb

Death & the Maiden 03.20.2008 08:21 PM

The only ambient sort of music I have is Tangerine Dream - Phaedra. Sonic Youth's Intro from Bad Moon Rising is pretty spacey and atmospheric.

el duderino 03.20.2008 08:52 PM

I'd recommend

Sun Ra - Lanquidity
(the second half of) David Bowie - Low

Death & the Maiden 03.21.2008 06:05 AM

The Clean - Point That Thing Somewhere Else

Death & the Maiden 03.21.2008 06:07 AM

The Chills - I Love My Leather Jacket
- I'll Only See You Alone Again
- Pink Frost

jimbrim 03.21.2008 08:30 AM

yea, i highly recommend brian eno's ambient series. also, check out growing as well, especially the album's color wheel and vision swim.

sarramkrop 03.21.2008 08:53 AM

I've posted this before but here is a download of a superb resonancefm broadcast. Space is the place and a nice one it is too.

Switched On: Early Electronic Oddities

EARLY ELECTRONIC ODDITIES is an exploration of the strange and subliminal sounds of early electronic musical instruments from 1860 to 1970, and many now almost obsolete daring and experimental creations like the Mixtur-Trautonium, the Ondes-Martenot, the Rhythmicon, the Ondioline, the RCA synthesizer, electro-theremin and the inventions of the Italian Futurists and Raymond Scott. Live discussions, field recordings and amazingly unearthed rare recordings presented by two theremin players, Miss Hypnotique and Bruce Woolley. Features recorded contributions by Bob Moog and Jean-Jacques Perrey.

That's a pretty good compilation, porky....I've had it for awhile.

johnnywinternoshow 03.22.2008 08:07 PM

Cheers guys, a lot of good stuff here, going to spend some time digging through it all. Really enjoyed that early electronic oddities radio show, thanks Sarramkrop!

If the CD turns out well I'll upload it for you all.

Dead-Air 03.23.2008 04:01 AM

I've listened to The Dying Mariner by Andrew Liles about 5 times through today, because it seems to put the baby to sleep really well. I still seem to be enjoying it too. Very spacy, minimalist piece, just piano notes and reverberation.

SYRFox 03.23.2008 04:36 AM

Kemialliset Ystävät. They're finnish and really good

ZEROpumpkins 03.23.2008 04:46 AM
