apple keyboard on a pc?
anyone know if there are third party drivers out there to hook up an apple keyboard to a pc?
|
reading up & apparently works fine, for the most part
http://www.computing.net/mac/wwwboard/forum/2329.html |
i found this vista driver here
http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=43983 but i still run XP... according to wikipedia Apple's USB keyboards are mostly compatible with Windows computers; the Command key works as the Windows key, the Option key as the Alt key, the Help key as the Insert key, and the Clear key as the Num Lock key. On the slightly older all white models the volume keys function as they would on a Macintosh, and the eject key has no function. With the new models released in August 2007 the volume, brightness, Exposé, dashboard, eject and media controls no longer work without installing Apple's Boot Camp software. This software allows for the volume, brightness, eject and media controls buttons to work properly though the Exposé and dashboard buttons still fail to do anything as Windows lacks this functionality. The additional function keys placed where the Print Screen/SysRq, Scroll Lock, and Pause/Break keys are on most IBM PC keyboards (F13/F14 through F15/F16) do not work as those keys in Windows without a special driver. Apple has since released a driver, though it is only available bundled with Boot Camp. ...more trouble than it's worth???? it's a damn fine keyboard. |
more trouble? who said trouble. just fucking get it already.

i'd get this logitech in a second
![]() if it didn't have that useless expanse of plastic attached to the front of it. |

i'm planning to install this on a pc that currently has ps/2 keyboard. i have usb ports, yes. but i am buying a usb 2.0 pci card. installing that. then trying to figure out if i can get bluetooth working and install a wireless os X apple keyboard on a diy beige box running xp. this fucking things practically held together with rubber bands as it is. something will go wrong. ask murphy. i really need to build a new one... but not a lot of cash right now. |
my keyboard looks like this:
![]() minus the "bhphoto.com" phantasmagoria |
where can i get one.... besides the spray paint booth.
oh..... it says avid on it.... |
yeah it's an avid keyboard. has the little buttons for video editing that match the software controls.
there are "cooler" ones but i like mine, it has an old school feel-- nice chunky buttons that spring back, none of that "soft touch" crapola. just wish it was metal. oh there are those too-- old IBM keyboards, etc. bitches like this: ![]() UNKILLABLE |
hell yeah... i used to have a chunky clicky keyboard had up to F24.... i should go on ebay.
you want unkillable... my other keyboard is a 1934 underwood standard portable ![]() you got to hit that shit REALLY hard.... i typically come close to destroying my computer keyboard every time i switch over... don't know how this apple soft touch thing will hold up to that.... |

WEIRD anyway if you must have usb and you must have new and it's gotta be cheap... how is $5?? plus shipping it should be about $10. |
ps - but if you want something that works, you should pay $7
|
if you want cooler looking for $7
![]() i'd go with the liteon though. substance > style (i know, you disagree) but anyway |

not entirely accurate.... logitech tech support told me (after_i_returned_three_units_i_determined_to_6e_f aulty) that 6oth computers should 6e running the same shit [us6 or ps/2] or_it'll_never_work_right.... _my_laptop_has_us6_my_tower_key6oard+mouse_are_ps/2.... switching_from_laptop_to_tower_is_fine_to_get_6ack _i_got_to_hammer_on_that_shit_20_times_6efore_it_s witches.... |
what shit? what would work right? uh??
you didn't install those shitty drivers discs, did you? just plug the usb, toss the driver disc into the trash and you'll be fine. -- if ps2 doesnt work then your port is fucked. ps2 is the most fucking basic primitive connector and it's gotta work unless the port itself is physically damaged. -- ps (not2) - please be kind to my eyes |

if you're still around-- uninstall any logitech software/ keyboard driver/ crapola on your machine.
computers don't need special software to get keyboard input. |
the problem (with the kmd switch...the keyboard i just spilled tea on) was hardware, not software: laptops have don't have fucking basic primitive connectors!!!! it'd be a total waste of space!!!
signal flow: ps/2 keyboard --> kmd switch [0] --> ps/2 input on tower ps/2 keyboard --> kmd switch [1] --> ps/2 to usb adapter --> usb input on laptop symptoms: when switch is set to laptop, key sequence PAGE UP/PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN switches to tower just fine. when switch is set to tower, key sequence PAGE UP/PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN does nothing until 14 or 15 attempt. [possible explanation #1] ps/2 to usb adapter is the problem. now you have messy signal coming out the other end. works fine for most things. but not clean enough for the laptop to bounce a signal back to the switch for it to flip. could be that the whole thing depends on the recieving computer recognizing the key sequence "PAGE UP/PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN" as "FLIP SWITCH" and not "PAGE UP/PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN." but this makes no sense as the problem occurs when the switch is set to the tower, not the laptop. [possible explanation #2] even if the switch itself is engaged in the entirely wasteful activity of constantly monitoring the signal for the occasional PAGE UP/PAGE UP/PAGE DOWN sequence.... i don't know... theoretically that should work perfectly since the signal always comes from the same keyboard directly to switch. hence my belief in [possible explanation #3] gremlins it's a moot point as i now have a usb keyboard, and i no longer need the ps/2->usb adapter... but am now faced with a different problem: i now have a ps/2 mouse, a usb keyboard, and a ps/2 kmd switch. anyway..... this computer hasn't had a clean install in years (like to do one every six months) and has so much computer AIDS its not funny. needs to be rebuilt and when i get a chance i'll hackintosh it, i swear. |
MAH KEYBOARDS...... LET ME SHOW YOU THEM.
my underwood standard portable ![]() my handspring standard portable ![]() my dell standard portable ![]() ![]() ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^......You got a lot of carbon scoring here. It looks like you boys have seen a lot of action. |

You never actually did get your shower working again, did you?
Fess up, now. |
it depends on how you define "working". I can turn it off, but it always drips. :(
|
I fixed a drippy faucet yesterday with tools and everything.
It felt pretty manly. |
my initial problem was climatic. frozen H2O brought massive system failure.
once operational status was resumed and spare parts could be obtained for the antiquated device, repair of the liquid dispenser was not problematic. yes. very much like a real man that day. |
