Looks punk.

max 03.01.2008 08:24 AM

seems cool! nice title...

whorefrost 03.01.2008 10:46 AM

I like how the synopsis still implies that Everett True is the author

gotta love the nearby "Peanuts" in the photo in Moshe's first post.

PAULYBEE2656 03.03.2008 08:27 AM

excellent... everett true. havent read anything by him in awhile...

sonicl 03.03.2008 03:06 PM

I attempted to order this, but the bookshop cancelled my order almost immediately on the grounds that the book is out of print.

jennthebenn 03.03.2008 03:23 PM

Psychic Confusion inititally was supposed to have been written by Everett
True. He announced it on his blog at Plan B, even. And that book cover
has been around awhile. Apparently, however, True abandoned the project. Enter Stevie Chick.

jennthebenn 03.03.2008 03:39 PM

You're welcome.

Regardless of the author, I hope this book is worthy of its subject.

sonicl 03.03.2008 03:46 PM

I have my doubts as whether the book will ever appear. The author says it's publication date is today, yet there is no mention at all of it on the publisher's website: http://www.omnibuspress.com/.

sonicl 03.04.2008 03:09 AM

The book's had about six "confirmed" publication dates in the last two years, with pre-order available from various sites each time. I've got too excited too many times to get excited about it again.

noisereductions 03.06.2008 10:01 AM

Is it out or not? I can't seem to find proof that it's officially available.

stevietonychick 03.06.2008 11:07 AM

hello there,

just a quick note to say that the book was published monday, and that i'm going to get in touch with the publishers about the troubles you're having getting hold of it.

everett was supposed to be working on the book, but when he realised he wouldn't have time to do it justice, he passed the project on to me which, as a Sonic Youth devotee for many years, I jumped at. thanks for the kind words, and I hope you all enjoy the book.

the amazon page has the old cover; this is what it actually looks like now:

i am indeed a proud peanuts fan, and highly recommend David Michaelis's Schulz & Peanuts biography. do buy Psychic Confusion first, though.

Thanks, Stevie

has anyone read confusion is next: the sonic youth story? i forget the author, the book is like black and white...

noisereductions 03.06.2008 05:25 PM

at least 5 times

wills123 03.07.2008 07:35 AM

Psychic Confusion reviewed in the new issue of Mojo

sonicl 03.07.2008 09:16 AM

Really? Interesting... hopefully I've been too quick to claim its non-existence.

Moshe 03.11.2008 11:55 AM

I have a confirmation that the book is available now in paperback.
You can order it now here.
Plan B magazine will be publishing an excerpt in their next issue, or the issue after. More info as I have it.

wills123 03.12.2008 04:44 AM

My copy arrived this morning! Its hardback btw. Looks good and the writer has nice things to say about this website.

guitarpro 03.13.2008 05:04 AM

Cool

I'll have to pick up a copy

sonicl 03.13.2008 05:14 AM

My second attempt to order the book (from a different bookshop this time) has ended in failure! The website said "next day despatch", and now they've sent me an email saying it's on backorder and it could be a couple of weeks before they send it. This is bloody infuriating!

So no U.S? Cuase I want this so bad.

sonicl 03.13.2008 05:18 AM

Ah, Mr Chick... I see you're online...

What the fuck are your publishers playing at?

✌➬ 03.13.2008 05:18 AM

I tried amazon, and could not find it.

✌➬ 03.13.2008 05:23 AM

I'm not spending 50 dollars for a book, from the u.k.

i don't think so..cuz i'm in the U.S. and i ordered it from amazon the other day and it shipped yesterday....check it out

sonicl 03.13.2008 05:43 AM

The company that sent me an email earlier today saying that the book is on backorder has just sent me another saying it's been despatched to me.

Apologies, Mr Chick, maybe your publishers aren't to blame after all.

✌➬ 03.13.2008 05:55 AM

I just ordered mine.

whorefrost 03.13.2008 08:53 AM

ditto

Toilet & Bowels 04.01.2008 03:35 PM

anybody read it yet?
is there anything in it that a dedicated fan of 15 years isn't going to have read before?

krastian 04.01.2008 03:39 PM

Exactly.

whorefrost 04.01.2008 05:02 PM

seems more extensive than confusion is next for sure. there is also a lot more general historical stuff including thurston's obsession with hardcore (which apparently left a lot of his peers including lee and jim scluvanos mystified). also more general history about post punk and no wave as well as an odd tangent on the meat puppets. i'm about 90 or so pages in and the recording of Kill Yr Idols is being discussed along with Thurston's Killer fanzine.
a while since i read confusion is next, but as i said, it is definitely beefier although this is due in part to the tangental stuff

i read this and was pretty disappointed. up to ejstns it told me nothing i hadn't already learned from confusion is next, and all the stuff that came after that album was dealt with so quickly it frankly wasn't worth bothering with. it read like homework finished in a rush on the way to school.

o'connor 05.30.2008 10:20 PM

so where can i buy this piece of literature? i looked on amazon and all they had was goodbye 20th century: a biography of sonic youth. i've never even heard of that book. so where can i get psychic confusion?

RanaldoNecro 05.30.2008 10:55 PM

Why is there such an onslaught of SY books out? 3 in a few monthes is bizarro....
