bjork...
ive been listening to bjork again big time these past couple of days. she really is amazing. her records all have the most beautiful textures, atmespheres, beats, everything. not to mention her voice is one of the most beautiful ever, i mean shes gotta be up there with i dunno, aretha franklin for sheer vocal power. my favorite female solo vocalist/performer probably ever, and shes gotta be the best of the last 15 years or so. i was just wondering of those who dig her on this board, whats your favorite alblums by her? i dont think shes had one misstep up untill last year with volta (which sucks, huge dissapointment, it aint terrible but i was expecting it to be one of the best of the year considering its bjork and she had the likes of brian chippendale, timbaland, antony, chris corsano, all those icelandic brass muscianas, just so many great collaborators)
my faves: homogenic (produced by mark bell of lfo and howie b, huge beats, great lyrics, bjork's vocals one the top of her game, wildly experimental in comparison with earlier works, her best record)/ medulla (way underrated, the whole fucking record is almost made exclusivley from the human voice for fucks sakes! this alblum gets my pic just for sheer idea, without even counting the quality of the tracks) any other bjork fans in the house? |
She is one of the most consistantly brilliant artists, and very unfashionable. Cue lots of posts telling you how shit she is, and how over-rated, and how she smells like poo.
|
I've been a fan incidently, since I bought the first KUKL album (1983?).
|
she's awful, she sucks.
|
I love Bjork. She's so fly. That bitch is crazy, though. I wouldn't fuck with her.

I got Holiday in Europe the other week. That's one of the Kukl records. I was surprised at how much better it was than the Sugarcubes (who had some AMAZING singles). Bjork is a bit to ubiquitous for me to ever remember how good she actually is when I get round to listening to her. But that's definitely my problem.
|
I ordered The Sugarcubes' Life's Too Good a week ago. I'm also interested in the KUKL stuff.
|
I'm not a huge fan of her albums, but I do like some songs, and I love her videos.I think she's pretty cute.. or was.. I dunno.. she's older now..And her husband (?) Matthew Barney is one of the worst human beings in the history of existence. Her voice is interesting. She's an interesting person... a bit overrated overall but yeah. I'm glad she exists.

It surprises me how you nearly always manage to say something wrong. Are you an internet art project? |
No, I'm not, but if I were, my art would still be better than his.
|
ADHD! ADHD! Nonsense.
|
ah Bjork I remember when she was in the SugarCubes & when she fucked up that reporter totally awesome. Check for her live dvd's hardly any errors...

Homogenic is my fave too. I wanted to give Medulla a new listen but I can't find my copy. |
Respect? Yes.
Enjoy? Hell no. |
sorry but i've always disliked her.
there was a time when i liked "army of me" but, seriously, it's only half a good chorus and lazy/annoying song/vocals/instrumental/songwriting like 99.9999% of her stuff. seriously, what i don't like about her is how she tries to compensate mediocrity with "excentricity". |

I meditate to Surrounded daily.. Björk's 5.1 DualDisc box set.
I owe Björk so much, she was my gateway to better music. |
Never liked her.
|
i can't imagine anyone not digging her music. it's unreal sometimes
|
i am grateful grapefruit

I can listen to Bjork for a few hours alright and then not want to listen to her for another few years. Saying that though, 'Homogenic' is a beautiful recording.

Oh trust me, its magical. My only gripe with it is All Is Full Of Love on Homogenic is the shitty Howie's Version. I WANTED THE ORIGINAL VERSION IN 5.1! |

shit, thats a bummer. i'd be pissed if i picked that up and noticed that |
Medulla is absolutely great album!!!! Definetely best of Björk. It´s the only album, that have some songs that remind me great Pink Floyd album Atom Heart Mother. Vespertine is also very good! All the other albums are also ok, I was disappointed to Volta at first also, but I have listened it now again for a long time and now it is also ok.
I didn´t like KUKL at all. When I listened it (I don´t remember the album name) I thought, that they´ve tried to make very arty stuff but they really didn´t have any ideas. Sugarcubes is ok, it cheers me up, when I need some funny pop stuff. |
I love Bjork but I can completely do without her theatrics... otherwise amazing artist. I've been a fan since Sugarcubes.
I will say though that I think she is more or less a more abstract version of Madonna in the sense that a lot of the appeal about her music is achieved at the hands of her producers. Great songs, great sound, great recordings.... she just comes in and does her thing with the vocals. |
It took me ages to actually enjoy her, having always fallen more on the 'just respect' side of things, but at some point earlier this year I was in a pretty introspective phase and something just totally clicked. She's fantastic. I value her music immensely because it has a special quality that only a few other things in my collection share, which is that thing of not necessarily feeling like listening to it all that often, but then just sometimes it'll be exactly the right time for you and then it's the only thing you can listen to for a few days. Say, Scott Walker or Keiji Haino have a similar thing. I have to be in the right headspace to listen to her, but when I am she's all I want to listen to.
Homogenic is the obvious choice for her best album, and I totally get why, but as much as Homogenic is probably the more 'definitive' release, the album I actually have the most affection for, and the one that got me into her, is Vespertine. It's less 'all out', more intimate. I love it. Cocoon is a great track. |
Björk's vocal range can not be compared to Madonna. She is a true musical artist with immense singing talent, where as Madonna is a pop idol.

genius to fall asleep to your tape last night
i love her |
|
i adore the bitch. i don't love everything she does but she's a real artist.
|
I'll kill her children one day.
|
In my opinion Vespertine and Medulla are masterpieces. But Volta was disappointment. It sounded to me like she was doing something she´s done before (more Homogenic-style stuff, but I think Homogenic is much more interesting than Volta). And to me that first song for new one sounds quite the same as Volta. She is still great, but not as great as for example P.J Harvey and Kate Bush.
