Do people post just to up their post count?

On the last board, I was on for several years and never got above about 600 posts becuase I only posted when I had something to contribute. I'm wondering about people that already have nearly two hundred posts in a matter of days.

Do you post simply to post, or do you really contribute something?

I'm not getting on anyone's case; there's no right or wrong, just curious.

I also think the "levels" will make people post out of their ass to try to get to the next echelon.

spiritbears 03.23.2006 11:32 AM

not sure i should respond to this as it will look like i am trying to up my post count!!!...kidding...
some of us just have no lives...

sonicl 03.23.2006 11:46 AM

Is that what the levels are all about? (I'm assuming you're referring to "empty page" and all that) I assumed it was to do with the reputation points.

I do post more crap on this board, but I think that's because it's easier to post frivously with this Quick Reply thing.

Inhuman 03.23.2006 12:08 PM

Hmm, well I guess that's it for some people. Personally I made a resolution to be more active, that's why I have so many, plus I love this board in general, it beats the Myspace boards any day

Magublafix 03.23.2006 12:09 PM

I think this is the right place so...

BUMP!!!!

Everyneurotic 03.23.2006 12:16 PM

sure, i post in every thread because my aspiration in life is to have a big number of post on a message board on the internet

my trophy arrives this friday

Laila 03.23.2006 12:17 PM

yes people do that to just get their post count up. duh! there are idiots on here just like anywhere else.

Everyneurotic 03.23.2006 12:19 PM

most

Everyneurotic 03.23.2006 12:19 PM

of my posts

Everyneurotic 03.23.2006 12:19 PM

make no sense anyway

Everyneurotic 03.23.2006 12:36 PM

stupid 15 second wait between posts, if it weren't for that i would have a MILLION posts already

BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Inhuman 03.23.2006 12:36 PM

Huh?

Magublafix 03.23.2006 12:36 PM

I think nowbody of us should post anymore because then our count goes up and thats very very bad....

Signpost 03.23.2006 12:42 PM

Posting makes your post count rise. It's so simple.

But how often were you about? It sepends also what you're interests are. I love the religion/moral etc debates, and they can accumulate posts quickly. I also try to help with queries when I can, and I love doing favourites and least favourites lists too. I'm also an insomniac.

That'll happen, and I must admit that I wantes to get to Bad Moon Rising! But there's the excitement of the new board, too. I also keep a track of my own threads, too, and try to add relevant stuff to them like links, and answer questions. I also like a lot of the posters here. Also, I think the friendly nature of the SY forum members makes this board a naturally chatty place.

Inhuman 03.23.2006 01:06 PM

I'm sure this will happen for a while, but not forever. Tonnes of people post because they want to raise their post count / Ranking / possibly get reputation, because they'll gain respect from having a lot of posts. Eventually it should die down a little bit. People like Neurotic, Hip Priest, have a lot of posts for 2 days, but (at least for me) just have lots of time on our hands.

I'm free to spend a lot of time online in work, so I did on Tuesday. Yesterday was one of my days off, so that helped at the start. And as I say, I get ablut 3 hours sleep a night, so I go on at night usually too!

THis is a nice board, a good place to be.

screamingskull 03.23.2006 01:15 PM

seeing as everyone has the same Joined date now there is mutual respect instead of people who have more posts or joined earlier getting more respect. so some people will be posting alot because they want to get more respect.

but, i think that the majority of us dont do this, we have had to fill this whole new board up with new threads so alot of people have been posting as there have been alot of new threads that they want to post on.

Yeah, I noticed your post replying to the "Who the fuck gets over 100 posts in one day?!" message saying you had the day off, so did some of the other regs. I'm just at college 6 hours a day in a graphics design course, so I have all the time in the world! I'm here for another 2 hours, then I'm off to class.

Everyneurotic 03.23.2006 02:05 PM

the day the board started, i had a complete free day, so i spent it all here. i'm not going to lie to you, but i was very excited with the new board, so i spent some quality time here, not just stay for the hell of it.

right now i'm pretty much free but i'm not posting away every minute, and believe, once i get to start doing stuff (like this afternoon, even thought chances are i'll get some computer time), i'm not going to put them off to post on the board

"i don't want to see people respecting me, i want them to fear and hate"--euronymous

also, i think the dumbest thing in a message board is to judge someone by the number of their posts. in fact, giving importance to the number of posts is retarded. that's for people with low self esteem who want to be noticed for any dumb thing they do

Inhuman 03.23.2006 02:09 PM

I'm barely here during primetime when everybody's logged on because I'm always really busy. I'm just here during the day on break

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 03.23.2006 02:46 PM

I only really post when I have something to say. But I really love message boards. Some people go on the computer to talk on IM or play games. I go on message boards.

A lot of people use Chatlines, but I really never got the hook of it. Message boards are MUCH more interesting, and you can get to know a community of people better than any open chatroom. Plus you can go back to old to old threads and review them. I don't mind IM's though, but I generally don't have time to talk to people, or they're all anti-social and never bring up interesting subjects.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 03.23.2006 02:53 PM

On the other board I was about posting alot, but a cooled it down and am post less. I still post maybe 25-30 times a day.

Rupert 'Stiles' Stilinski 03.23.2006 04:02 PM

It sure is easier to post on this board...

And no hate to the frequent posters; just curious and asking.

EMMAh 03.23.2006 04:08 PM

Nah, I post when I have something to say.

sellouteater 03.23.2006 04:18 PM

I would like to have more post but when i post i do have something to say. but sometimes i just ramble on about nothing at all.

Signpost 03.23.2006 04:27 PM

Frankly speaking half of my posts are just shite.

sellouteater 03.23.2006 04:33 PM

hurray for stupid posts

Kazz 03.23.2006 11:31 PM

Yes, yes

HaydenAsche 03.23.2006 11:35 PM

I got over 1000 posts in the last few months on the old board. Its winter and I am 15 with no friends who live that close by so I sit on the computer all day.

stirling 03.23.2006 11:39 PM

i don't wanna be an empty page

HaydenAsche 03.23.2006 11:41 PM

Then spam the fuck out of the place.

marleypumpkin 03.23.2006 11:51 PM

I know I do. Right HaydenAsche. (ha ha)

HaydenAsche 03.23.2006 11:51 PM

Like, duh. How do you think I got so many posts?

marleypumpkin 03.24.2006 12:02 AM

'Cuz you have a bunch of great opinions. & you like really good music, so it's easy to rack up posts when you have those character traits.

HaydenAsche 03.24.2006 12:07 AM

True. I think the majority of my posts are actually adding to conversation.

marleypumpkin 03.24.2006 12:10 AM

Hey, I'm not complaining. I post too many one liners anyway.

Everyneurotic 03.24.2006 12:59 AM

hayden, you fucker!!!

now you are children of satan while i'm still a bad moon rising?

man!!! i have to spam the shit out of the board now!!!

sonicl 03.24.2006 01:37 AM

The fact that I'm generally bored as hell at work contributes hugely to my posting more at the moment than I have in the past.
