It's nice :) |
Curtis Mayfield
The Stooges (fast forwarding through the BORING SONGS, yeah you heard me. "penetration" is dull as fuck. "I Need Somebody" is dull as fuck. "Shake Appeal" sounds like little richard on a bad night.) |
Rameses III
Gareth Hardwick Geoff Mullen Shuttle 358 Thee Silver Mt. Zion (new album rules hardstyle) Autistici Bat for Lashes |
Quote:
the stooges are my favorite band (besides the velvets), but yeah their first s/t has some boring ones, but fun house and raw power are perfect in my opinion. anyways, im a huge curtis mayfield fan too. one of the best voices, and some of the best lyrics ever. |
raw power is 1/4 dull.
some all time greats though more than m,ake up for it. the first one is like mudhoney in that half the songs are dirges that go nowhere and leave you feeling like you got cheated. |
some stuff I've been listening to a lot for the past few weeks...
autistic daughters derek bailey ("Standards") bill laswell ("Invisible Design") fred frith ("Gravity") ryoji ikeda metallica (first 4 albums) psycho baba shock city shockers vol. 1 and 2 (the ooioo remixes) teeth of lions rule the divine lamonte young ("Well-Tuned Piano") tar babies john zorn (filmworks series) frodus novo tono alvarius b (and some sun city girls albums I downloaded that I didn't have) f.y.p. pita autechre (can't wait for the new album!) alva noto the ex (funny you mentioned them, I have loved 'em for years but just recently pulled out some of their CD's again -- brilliant) nobukazu takemaru ("sign", "scope", "animate", and split with zu are always on repeat) neina surf coasters fatal flying guilloteens (early stuff, haven't heard the new one yet) sloth love chunks ogre you asshole gang of four ("solid gold", my favorite...) mac donald duck eclair toshimarau nakamaru oren ambarchi the nebulas zazen boys (can't wait for the new album!) renaldo and the loaf mx-80 sound (just got into them; i guess they were from around here... truely strange band) u.s. saucer harvey sid fisher secret chiefs 3 (7 inches... can't wait for the new album! Fuck!) cerberus shoal (the best band no one talks about here) captain beefheart (honestly, I haven't went a week WITHOUT listening to Beefheart in 5 years, so...) |
Fuckemos are great by the way.
"pussy photos make me really hard. it's the SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAMS of the wild women. " |
hahahah! I have a long running fight with a friend of ine who lives in austin about how he loves the fuckemops and I hate hate HATE their bullshit music!
|
|
Haha. Well, I just heard one album 5 years ago, and it was nothing but pitch shifted slow sludgey rocky shit, but it entertained me in weird ways.

See, there's no reason to post in the other thread, because that's just "bands you've gotten into recently". And that OTHER thread is just "recent listening". This is an all-encompassing "bands I've listened to lately" thread. I like this one.
Blood Brothers suck. |
Blood Brothers rule.
|
I thought they were okay before I'd heard stuff like Yaphet Kotto (why doesn't anyone on here talk about them? Surely one of the best bands ever) but then.. wow. You couldn't pay me to listen to 'em nowadays. So fucking annoying. I think Blood Brothers breaking up was the best news of 2007. The only listenable CD they did was "Adultery is Ripe". They just seemed like if my little sister wanted some kind of pop-parody of Gravity Records or something.
Probably the most hilarious vocalists ever, though, gotta give 'em that. And their lyrics are so over-the-top funny at times. And those one string guitar lines actually were pretty comedic. Come to think of it, their art/song titles/etc -- they were a joke band, RIGHT? But yeah, I'm glad people like them, I just think they're amongst the worst bands ever, and every side project involving their members is even worse (Head Wound City? I mean, seriously!). As far as similiar bands spawned from the same scene, I really dug that last Daughters album, "Hell Songs". They cut out the screaming, it sounds like David Yow is vocalizing for them now, cool shit. |
been listening for the last while to much more folky shit.
like and drony shit like religeous knives sir richard bishop (possibly my top album of 07) sleep om way too much sun city girls middle ages/renissaunce music. butthole surfers |

u dont like mudhoney?? ive never heard someone say there a straight up bad band. some stuff i forgot: rapeman the new oxbow (narcotic sotry) polvo howlin wolf |
and yes, blood brothers are SOOOO bad, this kid who lived in the same dorm as me last year, prolly one of the worse people oive ever known, bitchy personality, arrogant, hideously ugly, etc... anyways, his favorite bands were blink 182, daft punk, and the blood brothers, haha.
and yeah fuckemos are awesome, ive always found them preferable to their most oft-compared tu fellow austin acid punks the butthole surfers (whom i love as well). and the new autistic daughter is great too, i picked it up on your reccomendation. standards is my favorite derrick bailey. whats your favorite "the ex" alblum. i love them, remind me of crass but more no wave. |
and what oren armbarchi would you reccomend, ive only heard "afternoon tea".

I fucking LOVE mudhoney, just comparing their dirges to the stooges dirges. I prefer mudhoney's. |
none. during the last couple of days I've been listening to mogwai because I haven't been bothered to listen to anything with relevant substance or something you need to pay attention to.

mudhoney is easily one of the shittiest bands to have ever exist and get any kind of exposure. they have only a single and an ep of good music. Quote:
