They've been playing "Polly" for years now.

Alex's Trip 01.20.2008 01:47 PM

Yeah, these are old covers.

StevOK 01.20.2008 01:48 PM

Old news. Here's a download for both (and lots of other stuff):

Actually, I thought it was the best Nirvana cover I've ever heard (and I've heard quite a few). I've even done a cover of Polly (it's terrible, truly terrible).

avantgarde1 01.20.2008 08:39 PM

i'm willing to bet yr's is much better than their's. the voice soundly like a cat dieing an did not much care for the music either.

StevOK 01.20.2008 08:46 PM

I don't have Polly uploaded, but I bet you might dig my cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit recorded on a boom box played with a toy guitar. I believe it's up on my old purevolume page: http://www.purevolume.com/stevok

atsonicpark 01.20.2008 08:56 PM

ZEROpumpkins 01.20.2008 09:28 PM

yeah, I did it to match the "Gothic" version from when they played on Top of the Pops. Kurt didn't like that he had to lipsynch, or that the band couldn't play, so they let him sing with it. He decided to parody Morrissey. Here's a vid on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erxt-lgZP2o

avantgarde1 01.20.2008 11:29 PM

lol, thanks for the history lil buddy, but i already knew all that. it's on the live tonight sold out dvd. i'm a big nirvana fan. you should do a barry whit ecover w/ a voice like that lol!

pbradley 01.21.2008 12:32 AM

I love the changed lyrics in that "load up on drugs, kill your friends" ha ha.

SYRFox 01.21.2008 01:21 AM

Liars also covered "Territorial Pissings", their cover is really great

Norma J 01.21.2008 02:38 AM

I might listen to them sometime, but I probably wont. Nirvana covers never interest me.

but yeah,....dont usually dig cover songs...animal collective covering on a plain is pretty good though. they totally made it an "animal collective song". sorta like how kurt made other people's songs his songs.

hendrix could do it too.

Huh. I never liked Nirvana's version of "The Man Who Sold the World" because I thought it sounded way too much like the original. Pretty much felt the same way about "Lake of Fire". Their Vaselines covers sounded more like Nirvana than the Vaselines though, and I thought "Love Buzz" was an original for years.

ugh that was a bad bad (cover)

if you're interested in a cover that sounds more like the band, listen to evanescence's cover of heart shaped box...

yeah, HORRIBLE

the mammals' cover of come as you are however, a good job indeed

king_buzzo 01.21.2008 01:03 PM

i've never listened to AC

Rob Instigator 01.21.2008 01:18 PM

always though On A Plain had boring cry-baby lyrics

I'll start this off without any words
I got so high I scratched 'till I bled
I love myself better than you
I know it's wrong so what should I do?
The finest day that I've ever had
Was when I learned to cry on command
I love myself better than you
I know it's wrong so what should I do?

I'm on a plain, mmmm
I can't complain, mmmm
I'm on a plain, mmmm

My mother died every night
It's safe to say, don't quote me on that
I love myself better than you
I know it's wrong so what should I do?
The black sheep got blackmailed again
Forgot to put on the zip code
I love myself better than you
I know it's wrong so what should I do?

I'm on a plain, mmmm
I can't complain, mmmm
I'm on a plain, mmmm

Somewhere I have heard this before
In a dream my memory has stored
As a defence I'm neutered and spayed
What the hell am I trying to say?

It is now time to make it unclear
To write off lines that don't make sense
I love myself better than you
I know it's wrong so what should I do?
And one more special message to go
And then I'm done, and I can go home
I love myself better than you
I know it's wrong so what should I do?

sarramkrop 01.21.2008 01:46 PM

A dull band covering a great one. Not the first time it happened, so what's the deal?

atsonicpark 01.22.2008 03:49 AM

Agreed.

sun city girl 01.23.2008 04:48 AM

what's your problem? AC are probably the best band right now.

sarramkrop 01.23.2008 05:17 AM

For you, that is.

atsonicpark 01.23.2008 06:49 AM

Nah, Animal Collective are VERY hit-or-miss, mainly miss, and their last few albums have been just weird enough to be listenable but are actually quite annoying. I really think Sung Tongs was the last really good thing they did, and I prefer the works of their solo members to the whole band anyway.

hubre 01.23.2008 06:55 AM

thanks for the link, cheers

Bicorn Halfelven 01.24.2008 01:27 AM

I'm surprised, because I'm really enjoying this...

I've never "gotten" Animal Collective, they've always been a little "meh".

But this is pretty entertaining.
