music you listen to while skateboarding
or if you used to skate what was the music you listened to. i always preferred hip-hop (wu-tang clan, the first nas album etc.) mostly. but old slayer and the bad brains are great stuff to skate real fast and fall real hard to.
|
I used to skate to Miles Davis, gave me nice flow and style. Although i defiently think hip-hop is the best sort of music to cruise around to. i really cant skate to thrash like bad brains, mainly cos im a complete pussy and dont skate real hard on large stairsets etc.

I use to hangout with skaters in high school but never skated myself. I dug a lot of the music but the desire to skate never came to me.
|
i listen to the same music i normall listen too. and i totally agree, the average "skaterat" is a moron.
marc gonzalez, jason dill, jerry hsu, marc johnson, alien workshop, are the dudes who continue to keep skating interesting. |

it seems to me, that me and you have almost idential taste in tunes. no one else on a sonic youth board would ever mention charles bronson and spazz |

those guys influence are what keeps me interested in skate culture also, well aside from actually riding a board. |
|
Don't like the old school boards. Can't nollie or anything :(. Total novelty IMO but if you're gonna make a clock out of one then that's cool.
|
i have a krooked deck that is like an old school and new school board mixed, but it's only good for riding really (unless you're the gonz).
|
Rest assured if I was able to listen to music while skating, I'd be pumping some Aphex Twin, DJ Shadow or Chemical Brothers.
|
I prefer oldschool boards specifically because I'd never want to do tricks anyways, plus the boards being being... bigger?
I never really listened to music while skateboarding, but recently I was listening to some Charles Mingus, then made up in my head what 'Skate Jazz' would sound like were it a genre :p |
as for skate videos
LAKAI_BEWARE OF THE FLARE will be out on friday it is the most hyped video in the last 7 years, and i feel that it wont let down. Guy Marianos first part since mouse (thats 11 years ago folks), Marc Johnson's super part, the girl wonders Koston, Carrol, Johnston, young bloods alex olson poppalardo, the hiphop wonderkids Wu Welsh, Biebel. this one looks good, i just watched the new habitat which besides the excellent 60's psych music, was a total waste of my 30 bucks and i wanna go shove it down that fat skate poser's throat who reccomended it and sold it to be at starr skates in tucson. |
also, as a university of arizona student, i have grown deep contempt for long boarders. all these so-cal dudes with dumb spiky hair, gucci sunglasses, steroid pumped biceps, volcom tank tops, board shorts, and motherfuckiung FLIP FLOPS riding around on their long boards with absolute no clue what the hell theyre doing. i hate them so much they make me wanna transfer even, the even get the most chicks aroundf here. ARRAHHHHHHHAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i can't wait for that dvd. mouse is one of my favorite skate videos ever. i also hate longboarders and dude brahs. |
Skaters always seem to go on about skating. Obvious you talk about something you like? Yes, but skaters seem to always talk about skating like it's the coolest thing in the world. Just sayin'.
Anyway, I like the oldschool boards too. I have a few still from when I was a little kid, I don't ride anymore though. My eldest brother (who is a fair few years older than I) had a cool board from back in the day, that I only discovered a few years ago was a Bones Brigade board. It had all skulls on the bottome with "WARNING" and a bunch of things on it. It had red wheels and was the fasted board in town. I promise, it flew. |

Music is a different kettle of fish though, it's as common as brushin' ya teeth. As for the clothes, most skaters look the same too, and are caught up in commercialism. Yeah, you skate, but who cares about the logo on your shirt? |
Wearing a band shirt is very different - I'm wearing the bands shirt around, not the bands record label. Not to mention the prices are considerably different.
And I rarely talk about clothes or shoes? haha. I think you have an infatuation with my Rolling Stones shirt, you've mentioned it atleast 250 of your posts. |
I always liked rock/punk while skating...never really got into rap too much.
Last time before i gave up serious skating, at the skatepark someone put on Zen Arcade by Husker Du and it seriously made me skate better. |

I don't like rap while skating. It just doesn't have the right pace. It's funny you mention Zen Arcade though as it's the first punk album I would have thought to play. |
skate shoes are nice, vans and nikes especially, all i ever wear are various vans, dunks, and chucks
