Do You Want Kids?

Do You, I have been thinking about it, and I think I don't want any. If I do I want to adopt, but as more time goes by I don't think I want any.

edit- I just feel that I don't think I will like to raise them. I really love my nephew and niece but I don't think I want to go to the hassle of raising them.

sonicl 10.23.2007 10:49 AM

No thanks. I find life terrifying enough as it is, without having the added responsibility of bringing up a child. I'll stick to being an uncle, which I'm very good at.

SynthethicalY 10.23.2007 10:51 AM

Yes that is what I am thinking as well sonicl.

screamingskull 10.23.2007 10:51 AM

i'd like to have a little boy when i'm older. Maybe in my late 20's/early 30's. But it really depends on what situation i am in at that time.

HECKLER SPRAY 10.23.2007 10:56 AM

Well, maybe, when I 'll be more mature. Or when I will have nothing else to do.
For the moment, I can't stand babies. When somebody puts me a kid into my arms, I don't know what to do with him.

Rob Instigator 10.23.2007 10:57 AM

don't want any, can't have any anyways. funny how life works out.

I'm the exact opposite. I am, honestly, brilliant with kids. I would make a great father, were it not for my fear of totally ballsing it up.

girlgun 10.23.2007 11:09 AM

i have one. I really only like mine. My boy rules. I never planned to have kids, but sometimes stuff happens. Im certainly not sorry, but i wont be having any more

mangajunky 10.23.2007 11:11 AM

I plan to adopt one after I get married. There's a lot of em out there, I don't need to make a new one. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just not for me.

In fact, I don't know why but kids like me. That's embarassing, everytime they want to play with their stupid toys with me. I don't know what to do.

Your boy rules ? Does he listen to Sonic Youth ??:D

ThePits 10.23.2007 11:26 AM

I think children are great, especially when you can give them back to their owners when they start to smell

his favorite is Olivia Tremor Control. I think that Sonic Youth would be too noisy for him.

I knew that I'd raised the proper kind of music snob when at the drive-in-food-place, he rolled his eyes and said "modest mouse? at sonic? pfft!". ""

I imagine you very well with a child, and I'm sure you'd be a very good father. :)

cryptowonderdruginvogue 10.23.2007 12:40 PM

Yes, I want to have one of my own and then adopt another one or two.

Danny Himself 10.23.2007 12:44 PM

MAIS OUI!

Yes.

Hip Priest 10.23.2007 01:46 PM

I used to teach sports to children, which was a cool job. My current workplace is often full of children, and I talk to them, teach them bits and pieces, and let them help out, which is great. I do alright as an uncle too, but neither me nor my partner want children of our own.

alteredcourse 10.23.2007 01:51 PM

i have rejected the thought of having kids forever.... i think i'd be too self-absorbed and lazy to give them all that they need . im still figuring things out and dont really expect to stop....if i cant take great care of myself , how could i expect to take care of a little bastard me ?

though me and my boyfriend have joked around about having them lately , im not sure why that is..... do i actually want to have some , but just dont think i could ? obviously it is at least not the right time for us (if ever ) .

sonicl would be a great dad .

girlgun 10.23.2007 02:03 PM

the thing about kids: you may think you're not equipped, or you're too self absorbed, or just not stable enough to have them.... but once you do.. you cease to be all those things which ultimately makes you a better person.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 10.23.2007 02:07 PM

I put a maybe.

Women who don't like children/say they never want to have children turn me off.

But I wouldn't try for a child unless I thought I could give it a good life.

Girlgun's absolutely right. When I'm around kids I'm a much better person.

The only thing really terrifies me about children is that I'd be afraid they'd grow up into jerks.

davenotdead 10.23.2007 02:17 PM

yes. i want to spread my seed...plant seeds in as many placentas as possible...

"Hi, i'm next level"

congrats.

Savage Clone 10.23.2007 03:44 PM

No way.
No how.
Not ever.

I got a vasectomy when I was 24 after two years of thinking about it.
I still think it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
I'm sure I could have risen to the occasion in the event of an unplanned pregnancy, but that doesn't mean I want to.
My wife and myself both grew up never dreaming of the glorious time when we would one day have kids of our own, and I'm glad she is the non-family type as well, because that kind of thing is a dealbreaker. For some people (and I know a few), having kids is a lifelong dream and when one person wants them that badly and the other one doesn't, someone is going to have to live with a major lifestyle compromise while the other gets 100% of what they want, whether kids are in the picture or not at the end of the day.

I have enough responsibilities as it is, plus being someone who pretty much lives hand-to-mouth, I'm not sure I could provide the kind of security a kid would want. Not to mention, being raised by someone who is fairly pessimistic/misanthropic has to potential to create "issues" of varying types over the years.

Julian, I don't see why a woman saying she doesn't want kids should be a turnoff unless you want them really badly yourself, and with her.
Seriously, a strong woman who knows what she wants (whether that includes kids or not) and puts herself on the path to getting what she wants out of life is a huge turn-on. It shows backbone in the face of societal expectations for all women to be nurturing mommies.

I'm so glad my family never put any pressure on me to have kids; they know what's up, and they understand my position.
There are enough people on this earth. Too many.
I'm also not going to bear the strain on my conscience that being responsible for another human being having to go through childhood and adolescence would bring on.
I enjoy being around my friends' kids (the few who have them), but I also love knowing that for me, kids are not a 24 hour a day commitment.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 10.23.2007 03:46 PM

What about adopting?

Savage Clone 10.23.2007 03:48 PM

Um, no.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 10.23.2007 03:50 PM

...cool

Savage Clone 10.23.2007 03:53 PM

The only part of my rationale that doesn't also apply to adopting is the part about not making more babies.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't pass adoption agency muster even if I wanted to, which I don't.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 10.23.2007 03:54 PM

Word?

I want one of my own and then i'd like to adopt two

gmku 10.23.2007 04:03 PM

I voted No.

Somebody please come and take mine.

Rob Instigator 10.23.2007 04:09 PM

hahahaah too late for ya gmku!

Anngella 10.23.2007 04:32 PM

I hate kids and they hate me. I would consider adopting when I'm older.. but I'm a really independent person and I don't think I would be able to take care of another human.
Plus I would end up giving the poor thing a name like Wilfred or Velveeta.

How old are they?

gmku 10.23.2007 05:00 PM

Chronologically or emotionally?

Oh, they've never been really bad kids. I love them. But I'd have a lot more hair on my head and a lot more albums in my record collection without... . Oh God, I'm a horrible Dad!

cryptowonderdruginvogue 10.23.2007 05:02 PM

Any daughters?

gmku 10.23.2007 05:18 PM

She's taken currently, but if something should open up, I'll put in a good word.

_slavo_ 10.23.2007 05:19 PM

Yes, definitely, I want to be a dad. I want to have a daughter if it'll work out.

Alex's Trip 10.23.2007 05:33 PM

No kids for me, thanks.

Having my little sister born when I was 10, and growing up with her will suffice. Kids are pretty obnoxious anyway.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 10.23.2007 05:58 PM

so many people here have so adamently refused nature's call to reproduce that I am wondering if you are all secretly priests, or aspire to be so....
no kids= losers in Darwin's world

Alex's Trip 10.23.2007 06:01 PM

And now Darwin is dead. What does that tell you?! Huh? HUH!?

SynthethicalY 10.23.2007 06:01 PM

Well, when our natural resources are depleting why create more kids that will take up those resources?
