yeah, that's why, there's only place for ONE high maintenance person in my relationships, hahahahaha.
the place is on macdoughal, you know, where café wha? and all the restaurants and bars are, it's a very small local but it's impossible to miss because there's a huge spinning top (or skewer) roasting on the window, have you seen the shawarma spinning tops? this is three times as big. plus they have amazing baklava too. |

just bumping it up to see if any of you connoisseurs of the avant-garde can recommend any of these shows: 9/20 Thursday (GG) 8 pm Kermit Driscoll Kermit Driscoll (bass) Terrence McManus (guitar) Gerry Hemingway (drums) Feet rooted in the earth, hearts open, heads in the clouds. 10 pm David Devoe David Devoe (voice) 9/21 Friday (GG) 8 pm Peter Herbert Solo Peter Herbert (bass) 10 pm David Cossin David Cossin (percussion) Mark Stewart (guitar) Daniel Kelly (piano) 9/22 Saturday (SBTD) 8 pm Ned Rothenberg and Sylvie Courvoisier Ned Rothenberg (sax, bass clarinet) Sylvie Courvoisier (piano) 10 pm Shelley Hirsch Shelley Hirsch (voice, performance) Shahzad Ismaily (various instruments) In her 1st NYC performance since late last March (!), Shelley will be improvising with mult instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily. 9/23 Sunday (JB) 8 pm Kirk Nurock and Tony Moreno Kirk Nurock (piano) In a turmoil of tête-a-tête, pianist Kirk Nurock and drummer Tony Moreno will delve rhythmic overlays and textural shadowing. Try Other Music for your Thurston ticket.
I've no idea if they'll "hold" tickets if you ring and ask them, but it could be worth a try. It'll give you an excuse to go there and browse too. |

|
thanks to all who posted, turns out work got suppa-tough and we had little time to hang out-- we accomplished 2 things only in the realm of "fun":
1) arrive late to the knitting factory to see circle, miss oneida completely, and catch only 2 songs plus th encore of circle's set. 2) eat kebab & that place in macdougal street-- truly awesome, especially after some drinkies. the rest was work & sweat & junk food & little sleep. but it was like a vacation, exciting to work in new york, and the 6-day workout was great. |
circle and kebab, what more can you ask for?
|
Good night...
