Rather Ripped — is it a good title?

Not sure, myself. "Rather" is a bit weak, no?

Daycare Nation 05.06.2006 03:04 AM

I think the Sonic Youth fans are rather weak.

They need to get ripped, and think about the title.

fishmonkey 05.06.2006 03:37 AM

i know what you mean, i prefer the titile "do you believe in rapture?" i thought that was a good title

Society_In_My_Hole 05.06.2006 04:13 AM

I'm so glad they went with Rather Ripped instead of Do you believe in rapture cauze that just sounded so cheesy to me. Rather Ripped is cool.

Radioactive Poltergeist 05.06.2006 04:48 AM

I dislike the title. But anything is better than Sonic Life. Seriously.

ha ha. very funny.

i think kim had the right idea with rocked up.

haven't heard the leaks yet...

Everyneurotic 05.06.2006 10:50 AM

that's what you are going to say when you buy the album and all it has is a 15 minute version of the band laughing at you and ending with steve's only solo vocal performance in the band's discography by proclaiming at the end "we took your money and you spent it on this SHIT! FUCK OFF!!"

then, it's when you'll understand that you have been "rather ripped"-off

Neongod 05.06.2006 11:46 AM

No, it doesn't matter. Yes, it was an old record store...no word if that's relevant to it.
And yes, I love the title.

qprogeny79 05.06.2006 11:50 AM

my first reaction when i heard the title was, "dear god, it sounds like a richard simmons tape."

so no, no i do not. but hell, it's better than "sonic nurse."

agreed...Nurse and EJSTNS are their two worst.

L. Ron Hubbard 05.06.2006 12:38 PM

they should call their new album...DIANETICS AND THE SEARCH FOR TRUTH.

im kinda under the assumption that rather ripped was an old record store.

Thurston said on the bbc6 interview it was as if to say "dude, that guy is rather ripped" as in the pissed out of his brains way. Don't know if that's true or not but hey.

Is this interview available on this site somewhere?

HaydenAsche 05.06.2006 04:37 PM

Incredibly fitting considering how pirated it is.

Everyneurotic 05.06.2006 05:38 PM

yeah, sonic youth are older than the rolling stones

go listen to something youthful, like fall out boy

HaydenAsche 05.06.2006 05:43 PM

Yes. FALL OUT BOY!

kingcoffee 05.06.2006 05:53 PM

I too agree with the original title of Do You Believe in Rapture. Rather Ripped is kind of lame. It has nothing to do with the album.

greenlight 05.07.2006 02:36 AM

rather ripped? i think it sounds really good!

making the drama scene 05.07.2006 04:54 AM

without having listened to more than reena and incinerate:
maybe the whole album is rather ripped compared to all the other albums

samuel 05.07.2006 07:54 AM

I love the word "rather" for some reason.
I like it.

strictlycommercial 05.07.2006 10:18 AM

I like it, it is what it is.
Do You Belive in Rapture? sounds very grand & judging by cover art/description (still haven't heard it!) I think they were trying to avoid that.
Again, at least it's not Sonic Life.

lucyrulesok 05.07.2006 10:58 AM

heh, i dont think its the greatest album title ever, but there are FAR worse

charlotte church callewd her album tissues and issues. im not even kidding

i dont think sy are the best at naming albums, but it doesnt really matter at all. the point is that the music is good! (or at least i think it is)

atsonicpark 05.07.2006 05:05 PM

Yes, cuz i feel rather ripped off.

you feel rather ripped off after stealing the record before it came out? how ironic.

space cake 05.07.2006 06:17 PM

i seem to remember "rather ripped" somewhere in one of the bits from alabama wildman.

iTS ALRIGHT.

atsonicpark 05.08.2006 01:34 AM

Actually, it's not ironic considering I preordered it from scatbabes and downloaded it at the same time.

Ah, but look at its initials!

(You chose a great avatar, by the way.)

candymoan 05.08.2006 04:33 AM

"rather ripped" is open for interpretation..
that's always good for a sonic youth album..

i'm still waiting for the new album.. i refuse to download it.. will have more once i listen to it...

umjammer atomsk 05.08.2006 08:17 AM

I didn't really like the title at all when i first found out. I thought that this album might mark the end of Sonic Youth's greatness. Well, I'm sure I overreacted and now I don't mind the title too much. Whatever, it sounds a bit simple. It's just what the album's called. I've come across far worse.

yea dude no one is really impressed with yr little "shock value" thing you always try to pull off. grow up.

_slavo_ 05.09.2006 03:44 AM

is it good...? or is it bad?
anyone cares?

it's all about the music, isn;t it?

terminal pharmacy 05.09.2006 05:23 AM

the title could be called shit sandwich as far as i am concerned. as long as the music ist filled with goodness it doesn't matter.

Hannah 05.09.2006 02:28 PM

Not if the album is going to be overpriced. And I don't think the title matters, as long as the contents good. It sounds ok. Rather Ripped. Whats wrong with that? It's catchy.

Rob Instigator 05.09.2006 03:05 PM

sonic life

SONIC LIFE!!!!!

that should have been the name of the new album!!!

Cotton Crown 05.09.2006 03:11 PM

I rather tossed my cookies at the discovery of SY's new lp's title. Yet, i have come around and decided not too care.

atsonicpark 05.13.2006 05:26 PM

ozZuB-ginK, what the hell are you talking about? Idiot.
