The Best Album Ever Made?
I would have started another "Classic Albums" thread, but this album is too good to sit beside some of the utter SHITE that has appeared in those threads (Iron Maiden for fuck's sake).
This record was produced by Phil Spector, features one of the BEST voices in the history of recorded music, and has some cracking songs. Any guesses? Clue: the finest Spector project. |
|
No.
|
I don't believe you.
Of course, we all know that the best thing he ever had a hand in is Darlene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), but you're talking albums and you definitely don't mean 'A Christmas Gift to You'...do you? |
Leonard Cohen would fail on this count alone:

Well, you never know. Some people and all that.

OK, John Lennon's Rock n Roll. But I thought you hated John Lennon.
|
I don't remember saying I hated John Lennon. I may have in a fit of pique. Maybe when the muffin shop had run out of apple & cinnamon muffins.
I don't like him though, so it's another: No. |
Well I don't wanna go down the wikipedia route so I, for one, give up.
Hold on, and I KNOW you haven't chosen this, and I wouldn't choose it either but, End of the Century? |
I applaud your integrity (or is it just laziness?).
|
Integrity is rarely a factor. I assure you.

Choirs of the Eye by Kayo Dot OR Catch for Us the Foxes by mewithoutYou.

Are you making those up? |

Wow, that was a wild stab in the dark. Of course the answer is no. |
Another clue: I've heard the record described as being "eccentrically produced" by Spector.
|
Aha, Dion's album, what's it called. And agreed - at least in terms of the voice.

Aha indeed! ![]() Ignore the fact that he looks like a dodgy taxi driver. EDIT: Snap. |
the ronettes?
|
This would have been my next clue if demonrail hadn't got it:
![]() |
hmmmm. That would've thrown me right off. Who are they? It looks like the Angels but thought htey were a three-piece.
|
The Chordettes, who recorded the best known version of Born To Be With You (the title track on Dion's album).
|
Ah, so you live and learn. Nice one.
As I thinkI said in another thread, Dion's 'Runaround Sue' is one of the greatest records known to man. |
leonard cohen is probably the best person ever.
but best album? VISION CREATION NEWSUN |
I don't feel qualified to pick the best album ever. But these people do! Great answers, huh. http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question...5192737AAbKKvU

No argument here. He's done a lot of mediocre stuff in his career, but every now and then, he does something spectacular. His album from last year can be filed with the mediocre. |
There isn't a single greatest album at all. There are loads of them that are great. This 'greatest this', 'classic that' is tedious lifestyle magazine fodder.
|
Yes there is. I've just told you what it is.
|
sounds intriguing, might have to take a punt on this but I have to say if it turns out to not be the greatest album in the world ever then there'll be trouble.
|
Oh, ok, there is one.
|
Actually, this is the greatest album ever made:
![]() If you don't beleive me, build a time machine, go back 30 years, and ask the 10-year old me, and he'll explain why. |
I was a huge Showaddywaddy fan.
I remember seeing them play Under The Moon of Love on Swap Shop in 1976. A year after the best album ever was released, which is(for those who can't be bothered to read the whole thread): http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main...0/bmdion10.xml |
fuck, which do I get then, Dion or shawaddywaddy?

The mighty 'Waddy are still going strong. Should I ever have a civil partnership thingy, I'm going to demand that they appear and sing lots a accapella stuff to me and the hubby-wife.

The band are due to record a brand new rock 'n' roll "concept album" in the autumn, ready for release in the Spring of 2008. |
The Waddy were great, as were the mighty Darts. Then old Shakin' 'Shakey' Stevens went and screwed the whole 70s retro RnR thingy up by appealing to the mums. Which was a bit of a crappy thing to do, really.
