The Best Album Ever Made?

I would have started another "Classic Albums" thread, but this album is too good to sit beside some of the utter SHITE that has appeared in those threads (Iron Maiden for fuck's sake).

This record was produced by Phil Spector, features one of the BEST voices in the history of recorded music, and has some cracking songs.

Any guesses?

Clue: the finest Spector project.

demonrail666 07.17.2007 06:48 PM

I don't agree, but is it

Pookie 07.17.2007 06:49 PM

No.

demonrail666 07.17.2007 06:51 PM

I don't believe you.

Of course, we all know that the best thing he ever had a hand in is Darlene Love's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), but you're talking albums and you definitely don't mean 'A Christmas Gift to You'...do you?

Pookie 07.17.2007 06:56 PM

Leonard Cohen would fail on this count alone:

Well, you never know. Some people and all that.

demonrail666 07.17.2007 06:58 PM

OK, John Lennon's Rock n Roll. But I thought you hated John Lennon.

Pookie 07.17.2007 07:02 PM

I don't remember saying I hated John Lennon. I may have in a fit of pique. Maybe when the muffin shop had run out of apple & cinnamon muffins.

I don't like him though, so it's another: No.

demonrail666 07.17.2007 07:04 PM

Well I don't wanna go down the wikipedia route so I, for one, give up.

Hold on, and I KNOW you haven't chosen this, and I wouldn't choose it either but, End of the Century?

Pookie 07.17.2007 07:06 PM

I applaud your integrity (or is it just laziness?).

demonrail666 07.17.2007 07:07 PM

Integrity is rarely a factor. I assure you.

Wow, that was a wild stab in the dark.

Of course the answer is no.

Pookie 07.17.2007 07:15 PM

Another clue: I've heard the record described as being "eccentrically produced" by Spector.

demonrail666 07.17.2007 07:17 PM

Aha, Dion's album, what's it called. And agreed - at least in terms of the voice.

demonrail666 07.17.2007 07:19 PM

Born to Be with You.

Aha indeed!

Ignore the fact that he looks like a dodgy taxi driver.

EDIT: Snap.

Toilet & Bowels 07.17.2007 07:21 PM

the ronettes?

Pookie 07.17.2007 07:24 PM

This would have been my next clue if demonrail hadn't got it:

demonrail666 07.17.2007 07:27 PM

hmmmm. That would've thrown me right off. Who are they? It looks like the Angels but thought htey were a three-piece.

Pookie 07.17.2007 07:29 PM

The Chordettes, who recorded the best known version of Born To Be With You (the title track on Dion's album).

demonrail666 07.17.2007 07:30 PM

Ah, so you live and learn. Nice one.

As I thinkI said in another thread, Dion's 'Runaround Sue' is one of the greatest records known to man.

atsonicpark 07.17.2007 08:41 PM

leonard cohen is probably the best person ever.

but best album?

gmku 07.17.2007 08:45 PM

I don't feel qualified to pick the best album ever. But these people do! Great answers, huh. http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question...5192737AAbKKvU

No argument here. He's done a lot of mediocre stuff in his career, but every now and then, he does something spectacular.

His album from last year can be filed with the mediocre.

sarramkrop 07.18.2007 03:34 AM

There isn't a single greatest album at all. There are loads of them that are great. This 'greatest this', 'classic that' is tedious lifestyle magazine fodder.

Pookie 07.18.2007 03:36 AM

Yes there is. I've just told you what it is.

therealglenstyler 07.18.2007 03:49 AM

sounds intriguing, might have to take a punt on this but I have to say if it turns out to not be the greatest album in the world ever then there'll be trouble.

sarramkrop 07.18.2007 03:51 AM

Oh, ok, there is one.

sonicl 07.18.2007 03:53 AM

Actually, this is the greatest album ever made:

If you don't beleive me, build a time machine, go back 30 years, and ask the 10-year old me, and he'll explain why.

Pookie 07.18.2007 04:03 AM

I was a huge Showaddywaddy fan.

I remember seeing them play Under The Moon of Love on Swap Shop in 1976. A year after the best album ever was released, which is(for those who can't be bothered to read the whole thread):

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main...0/bmdion10.xml

therealglenstyler 07.18.2007 04:05 AM

fuck, which do I get then, Dion or shawaddywaddy?

Pookie 07.18.2007 04:12 AM

This might help you decide:

Whichever you find first.

MellySingsDoom 07.18.2007 04:54 AM

The mighty 'Waddy are still going strong. Should I ever have a civil partnership thingy, I'm going to demand that they appear and sing lots a accapella stuff to me and the hubby-wife.

The band are due to record a brand new rock 'n' roll "concept album" in the autumn, ready for release in the Spring of 2008.

demonrail666 07.18.2007 11:09 AM

The Waddy were great, as were the mighty Darts. Then old Shakin' 'Shakey' Stevens went and screwed the whole 70s retro RnR thingy up by appealing to the mums. Which was a bit of a crappy thing to do, really.
