new Bark Haze- "Macannabis" tape
hi,
i just released this Bark Haze tape and thought you dudes would be into it. thanks!! arbor47 Bark Haze- "Maccanabis" c30 7$ppd ![]() Somewhere, the gods of psych are smiling. Gazing down on this Northeastern all-star unit, just feeling the music. Bark Haze is comprised of Andrew Macgregor (aka Gown), Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth), and on this recording Pete Nolan (of Magik Markers). Gown and Moore's dual guitars and in constant conversation. There must be a psychic barrier between these dudes minds, nothing sounds forced, only ever flowing. Nolan keeps the time with militant precision acting as the foil for guitar development. A thirty-minute track recorded around the same time as All Tomorrow's Parties last winter stretched across two sides of the tape. Infinite psyched out oblivion like a more sober Lambsbread. In a numbered edition of 200 copies with double sided red eyed tree art and tape labels by Maya Miller of Heavy Tapes/Religious Knives. website/ordering: www.arborcdr.com/releases.html |

Niiice artwork
|
yeah, maya did a killer job on the art.
all orders so far have been mailed. thanks!!! |
SWEETNESS... i ordered mine the other day...
|
i want one
|
this tape looks hot. be sure not to miss all the other awesome stuff this label puts out! arbor is a favorite of mine, and i have perfect taste! :)
|
thanks dudes. too kind.
still got a handful of these left, but their moving fast. |
finally got around to ordering this. thanks!
|
Got mine... pretty awesome artwork, which its def. worth it alone. as well as the Robedoor LP haven't listened to that one yet though.
|
ordered mine, just few days ago. i need some tape player now. I've none.
|
i think like riteaid/walgreens type places will have cheap-o walkman type things. thats what i use... when i want to hear it on my stereo i just plug in using hte headphone jack. but thrift stores are good too for component style ones.
|
agreed. might wanna hurry up, though. cassette players are getting extremely sparse these days.
|
In the uk, if you go somewhere like Cash Converters or Cash Generator you will see a bunch of hifi seperates cassette players for pretty cheap. I got mine for £10 and it does the job pretty well.
|
How does it sound?
|
mine came in today and i jammed it in my car's tape deck while i drove to work.
it was pretty awesome. |
great i will check it out.
|
i got mine today but it is blank there is nothing on it
|
Ah, fuck...That sucks. I want to get this at some point though. Heop it doesn't sell out too soon.
|

ugh that sucks i'd get in touch with the label and see if you can get another. |
I got it today. haven't listened to it yet (no tape player). did yas got Villa Valley CD-R with it as well. nice surprise. i'm listening to it now and it's great noise.
|
jamming this now.
"A thirty-minute track recorded around the same time as All Tomorrow's Parties last winter stretched across two sides of the tape." hmmm, to these ears, it sounds exactly like the ATP set.. recorded around the same time is a bit misleading.. dig it nonetheless... |
It is very like the ATP set, isn't it? But that doesn't stop it from being brilliant.

Yes, it's the ATP set. Does it sound better or worse than my recording or is it even the same? I was wondering about that earlier, but I don't have the cassette myself. |
Quote:
are you still in yahoo group? i think it's soundboard rec. as you can't hear audience (which was very quiet actually). hard to say. your rec. is very good, but i haven't compared it like listent to your rec. and then tape. maybe I'll do it and let you know. |
yes, i'm still in there but i don't check it very often. thanks.

I only listened once but i noticed right away that your recording is better, as in slightly better quality and a more even mix of all the instruments... the cassette is not bad, but Pete Nolan is even less audible than on your recording and Thurston's amp is more in your face. |
Thanks for comparing. Maybe it's better I gave this one a miss then; there's so much stuff I still need to buy. Artwork looks nice though.

(If that post looks a little smudged, it's because of the tears running down onto my keyboard) |
i had no clue this was the ATP set. i almost feel jipped, but it was only $7.
|
Its a nice little artifact on its own, as someone else wrote above Maya Miller's cover is worth the price! (I got her book of drawings the same day, its pretty groovy stuff, but all b&w).
I also picked up the Shearing Pinx/ Silver Daggers split 7" which I really dug, esp the Silver Daggers, they have a great no wave thing going...I recommend this little puppy...I haven't had a chance to listen to the Villa Valley bonus. regarding what val-holla-ing said above, I'm all for these side project releases but it should be something not really available, and the downloaders have made EVERYTHING available....unless the packaging is ace (as in this case) but a Cd in a stupid sleeve for $18 doesn't cut it. |

I missed that in the early am fog - I agree with you. You guys are certian its the same then... Hmm, I just got the ATP set today in the mail...along with the Comets set... |
Quote:
exactly, I thought it's other then ATP recording. artworks and bonus cd saves it. pity that you didn't get bonus cd, but still..artwork. |
what a total jip. nevermind though i still love them.
|
im glad that most of you guys are digging it. sorry if there was some confusion with the description; considering that i wasnt at nor had i heard the ATP set, i didnt know that it was the same thing. all i had was thurston saying it was recorded december 06 in the uk. once again, sorry to those of you who feel jipped. i wasnt trying to trick anybody.
goodies are thrown in randomly, glad you guys appreciate the VV cdr. ive still got about 20 bark haze copies left. and oh yeah, the person with the blank tape is getting a new one + some other stuff. im just a dude in my bedroom, mistakes happen. take care- mike |
Quote:
it *is* the exact same source as what appeared on DIME back in december or so. i know where gown got his copy... |
I think that the uploader on dime asked not to sell it. :)
|
Quote:
heh - i'm sure that the artists involved would get a pass on that... |
So it is from the source I recorded then... I already had a bit of a suspicion that it might be. Good I didn't buy it then; I'd feel cheated. :)

Anyway, it's about supporting the artists and that's exactly what you're doing when buying a copy of this. I think it came out well; seems like Gown agreed on that. BTW, keep an eye out for the upcoming LP of the ATP set from NNCK! They'll be using the recordings we did for that one too, but they also made one themselves so it will all be mixed in some way or another... ours came out better though. |
