Why do you like rubbish bands?
The Cast/ Kula Shaker thing got me wondering - name a rubbish band you like and why they are great. The more vague your response, the more points you get. First to a million or last one alive wins. Go!
Menswear - I was young, I had a slightly gay crush on Johnny and their tunes were a bit zingy. |
I put away some Northern Uproar singles today, and I don't know what possesed me to buy the initial run of them.
|
The KLF - They make me want to jump about a bit.
|
What about Cowboy Junkies? There is not known psycholigical profile for their own fans.
|
Cowboy Junkies are not rubbish. Why don't you put your head back inside your indie tent and listen to The Farm under the bedclothes.
|
i LOVE the toadies.
actually, i love all those old alternative bands.. i dunno.. i like bush - razorblade suitcase... yeah. |
why do British people say things like rubbish?
seriously |

part of the english dialect |

It's the British version of the American version of crap. I know they wonder why we say crap instead of rubbish. |
No. 'Crap' is pretty universal, not to mention it's slang. I would not put 'rubbish' in the slang category.
|
Rubbish is a great word, beats "crap" always.
As for my rubbish fave... This is one of those soft spot things. The Prodigy. (oh yes!) They made their break during mid to late 90's which was also the time of my pre-teen - teen age. Back then (at the age of 11-13) we used to attend those laser tag games (megazone!), in which you run around in hardboard labyrinths with a gun in yr hand. The usually had voodoo people or something as background music. I suppose they epitomize the whole 90's multimedia / video games / techno buzz, in its neon color hell lameness... I like how one of their early videos has graphics that look like virtua fighter 1 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Vxm_uYqzzHs). It's not like I still listen to them, or be interested in them. I might dance to that stuff if I'm drunk enough thought, and I'm not even ashamed. |

I don't know I hve always put crap as an American thing. But you are right it is universal. |
Prodigy's first 2 albums are essential documents of the early-ish rave scene. Not rubbish at all.
Speedy! Boy Wonder! Remember that song? Fucking awesome. It had a bouncy chorus. Oh, the Supernaturals - love has passed away. BIG choruses! Ultrasound - Same Band. It's a bit like Dinasour Jr but they had one good single and fuck all flack. Shaggy - It wasn't me. Blame the girlfriend of the time if you like, still think this is a great song. Sisqo - Thong song. If you can't enjoy misogyny on some level then you've probably got a bad haircut. |
And obviously Gene, because they frowned a lot and had a weird Motown thing going on.
|
Hmmm... rubbish bands...
The Offspring. I fucking love Smash. I listen to it in my car all the time. |
I'm the world's only Rialto fan, and I agree about few early Prodigy songs.
|
noone knows what it's like.....to be a dustbin......in shaftsbury..... with hooligans
|
I used to like the 1st Placebo LP... sounded good at this time.

The video is quite funny, nevertheless. |
they fulfill one's need to boo at something.
|
haha placebo.
they'd be good if it weren't for the worst lyrics ever. uh... i love the first two korn albums. the first limp bizkit album. all the deftones albums. the first two amen albums. all tool albums. the first system of a down album. the first static-x album... |

ha ha ha-- i just posted that as a joke i'd never listen to that crap, i was just searching youtube for rubbish music & ran into that, which wasn't bad for a video, yeah |

I thought you've eaten some rotting meat. |
Pop Will Eat Itself. Because as a kid I thought the midlands was a bit exotic. I still do actually.
|
Quote:
Nope, you're not. My friend Mickey likes Rialto. They're the ones with two drummers yes? |

I used to buy those shine compilations and used to love the gene songs on them, especially that song olympian...never bought any of thier albums though. |
Oh yeah rubbish bands:
Green day (Well, only their first 2 albums really, but still) |
Quote:
Green Day's first two albums were absolutely terrific !!! Other than that, I used to love Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine when I was a teenager. |
You think too much, Nefeli. :)
|
I thought Curiosity Killed the Cat were pretty cool when I was about 16. They did this video with Andy Warhol for The Tube.
|
I was into them too. Was his name Pierre or something? Dishy man.
|
Curiousity Killed The Cat reformed in the last couple of years, didn't they? Or was that Swing Out Sister?
|
God, the Tube made me buy lots of odd albums. The Christians, anyone?

Check out what CKTC's singer is going these days:
http://www.myspace.com/benvolpelierepierrot http://www.benvp.com/WMVideo.htm Still wearing a daft hat after all these years. |
I remember these being the single most exciting band in my entire world, for about a fortnight. Now they're merely one of my all-time faves.

Who are they? I can't access youtube from work.
|
1: Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Love Missile F1-11
2: Age of Chance's Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Noise. |
Age of Chance was another one that started great and then slipped. Signing to a major label did for them, I think. Their Disco Inferno was amazing though. They could've been Atari Teenage Riot fifteen years before their time.
