What If.....

Krist Novoselic were to be the back-up bassist for SY during an upcoming tour. You know, when Kim is playing guitar, Krist could be the bassist.
I guess you could say a Jim replacement. Thoughts & comments, anyone?

krastian 04.29.2006 01:26 AM

I'd get a hard on.

marleypumpkin 04.29.2006 01:36 AM

I would def be excited to see this show. I mean, Sonic Youth, & 1 of the founding father's of Nirvana, together on stage, that truly would be ecstasy in paradise.

luckynumber9 04.29.2006 03:48 AM

That would be interesting to see, no doubt, but the last thing I remember hearing was that Krist was abandoning music altogether and getting into politics.

marleypumpkin 04.29.2006 04:34 AM

That is a shame to hear. Not the fact of him going into politics, but giving up music. He is truly a talented musician. & it would be tragic to have to miss out on such a great talent like Krist.
Well, didn't he have a group w/ his wife or something?
Sweet 75 I believe was the group. What I wanna know is why didn't they (Krist & SY) ever join up on a project? Or why didn't Krist play bass at some live gigs? Does anyone have any answers?

Magublafix 04.29.2006 05:31 AM

good idea would be awesome let's send him a mail or so...

finding nobody 04.29.2006 05:33 AM

Yeah I thought they kind of sucked.

marleypumpkin 04.29.2006 05:00 PM

Yeah, I haven't heard their album, that I keep seeing over & over again in the used section of Disc Exchange. (ha ha)
Seriously, I would like to hear more from SY fans on this subject.

LifeDistortion 04.29.2006 05:36 PM

Mutal admirers of each other's music perhaps, but its more likey Krist would get on stage and jam with some local Washington band then SY I would think.

marleypumpkin 04.29.2006 05:52 PM

Well, SY & Krist should at least do some type of project together. Be it live, or in studio. I just think it would be very interesting to hear what these projects would sound like.

finding nobody 04.30.2006 01:47 PM

krist's band 'eyes adrift' were alright. they had some alright sounding stuff

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 04.30.2006 01:53 PM

the only thing better than him would be stevie wonder!!!

kingcoffee 04.30.2006 01:58 PM

That's be wicked cool. Iv'e never seen any of the former Nirvana memebers live before, so it would be quite a treat.

marleypumpkin 04.30.2006 03:47 PM

Stevie would be an interesting mix w/ Sonic Youth. I'd pay to see that show.

Not only did I get to see a former Nirvana member live (Dave during last year's Foo Fighters/Weezer tour) but I also got to touch his arm when he walked through the audience . It was one of the defining moments of my life!

marleypumpkin 04.30.2006 04:58 PM

To be honest, I'd rather see Krist than Dave. Don't get me wrong, Daves one of my favorite drummers, but I can't stand the Foo Fighters. & besides, Krist was in Nirvana from the beginning. He's one of the founding father's of Nirvana. Krist over Dave, definately.

luckynumber9 04.30.2006 05:58 PM

I don't really have a preference... besides, I didn't own a Nirvana CD until 1992 and really didn't care who was in the band longer. I should mention though, that I'm not really a fan of the Foo Fighters either. I bought their first album in '95 and listened to it over the next year or so, then pretty much lost interest. I was there to see Weezer, for sure. I still thought it was cool to see Dave play the drums for one song though.

marleypumpkin 04.30.2006 06:26 PM

I know what you're saying. After I saw SY live, I thought to myself, that band has been on tour w/ Nirvana. & was great friends w/ all of them.
So, the closest I've gotten to seeing Nirvana, was seeing SY.

luckynumber9 04.30.2006 06:46 PM

Yeah, it's a shame I never got to see Nirvana live, but without the internet to find out about shows before they sold out, and parents that didn't really approve of Nirvana, and being only 13 or 14 at the time, not to mention living far away from any major concert venue, made it rather difficult to see them. I think it wasn't until Unplugged aired that my mom finally decided they weren't so bad after all. I think Kurt doing Unplugged reminded our parents' generation of James Taylor (when he still had hair, think "Fire and Rain") or something like that.

marleypumpkin 04.30.2006 08:45 PM

Hey, I love James Taylor's early years. I waas listening to "Sweet Baby James" earlier, the record that has "Fire & Rain" on it. It's one of my favorite records. I pretty much grew up on that record.
