It's like blah blah blah ... on acid

I heard the 'on acid' thing twice today as a way of describing something that's a bit weird. I don't know why but I just hate it when people say that.

You know the thing I'm talking about: someone says something like "David Lynch. He's like Frank Capra ... on acid!" or "James Ellroy. He's like Mickey Spillaine ... on acid!" or one of the ones I heard today: "the Aphex Twin. He's like Kraftwerk ..." you get the picturte.

The annoying thing now is that, the more I think about it writing this post, the more "... on acid" comparisons I keep coming up with.

This is madness.

Trasher02 05.30.2007 09:39 AM

This thread is just like the Pet peeves thread... ON ACID!

sarramkrop 05.30.2007 09:40 AM

Odd, odd, odd!!! I was thinking about that term a few days ago, as well as a number of lazy journalistic expressions used to describe music way too often.

demonrail666 05.30.2007 09:41 AM

Alligators. They're like lizards ... on steroids.

You mean like the word 'seminal' to describe an album that's more than ten years old and didn't chart?

MellySingsDoom 05.30.2007 09:48 AM

Primal Scream - they're like the Clash but funkier (copyright all music journalists)

demonrail666 05.30.2007 09:50 AM

The Clash - they're like Eddie Cochrane ...but crappier (copyright DR666)

sarramkrop 05.30.2007 09:52 AM

Best thing since sliced bread.

sonicl 05.30.2007 09:53 AM

Kylie Minogue's hotpants- they're like Paris Hilton's hotpants on acid (copyright all UK journalists)

Iain 05.30.2007 10:18 AM

I remember Lee and Herring did a pretty funny piss take of the overuse of the "like x...on acid" thing prompted by, I think, someone saying that Lee Evans was like Norman Wisdom...on acid.

I saw Kylie's hotpants on Sunday, at the Victoria and Albert Museum, but I didn't notice any psychedlic influence on them.

demonrail666 05.30.2007 10:20 AM

Well, Lee and Herring. aren't they just Morcambe and Wise on acid? Oh, I forgot. that's Vic and Bob.

MellySingsDoom 05.30.2007 10:24 AM

These neologisms can go on forever:

Avril Lavinge - Like Toni Basil...on acid.

afterthefact 05.30.2007 10:26 AM

I like using this one, we used to use it on customers where I used to work... "That guy looks like blank if instead of doing movies/music/etc. he did crack instead."

demonrail666 05.30.2007 10:27 AM

Leave the Lavigne out of your petty linguistic shenanigans.

Ewww. I'm gonna use that one.

Although, you might get confused and say something like Halle Berry. She looked like Whitney Houston oif instead of doing crack, she did music instead.

atsonicpark 05.30.2007 07:42 PM

yeah, so this thread has prompted me to name my next song "it's like acid.. on acid".

Alex's Trip 05.30.2007 08:23 PM

One of my friends described Animal Collective as the Shins on acid.

atsonicpark 06.01.2007 02:55 PM

That's not a very good description at all.
