Well I was at my dad's, watching a movie downstairs, and I hear a sound coming from my brother's room (which is also downstairs), so I go in and I see the shadow of someone (through the blinds covering the window) trying repeatedly to open the window...well I ran like hell upstairs to my room, locked the door, and called my dad at work. In the meantime, I keep hearing strange noises coming from the basement, so I figure that whoever it was actually came inside the house and was walking around. Once my dad got there, we both went downstairs and I told him what happened. He opened the blinds on the one window and saw that the screen had been knocked out, but the window was locked. He checked the second window in the room and it was unlocked, and partly opened. We both went around the rest of the house, armed with golf clubs, checking all the doors and hiding places and everything. We didn't find anything else out of the ordinary. My dad left, and I left shortly after that and now I'm at my mom's.

gmku 05.15.2007 03:07 PM

It was the meter man. Come to read the water meter, silly. That's all.

Nope, no cops. My mom said the same thing. But there has been a lot of crime in our neighborhood lately (one couple on our street had their car stolen, and their cat was actually shot and had to have its leg amputated, and a ton of other things happened to other houses too). Most of it has been vandalism, and there have been some things stolen, but nothing as bad as the car/cat incident.

SynthethicalY 05.15.2007 03:15 PM

Wow, that reminds me of my old neighborhood, it is getting infested by criminlas again.

it would not have been a bad idea to get the cops to get prints. if there's been breaking and entering, you can make a stink & get them to do something. maybe they could identify the perp.

I know, but it's not really my decision, it's my dad's. I have no idea if he plans on doing anything about it.

!@#$%! 05.15.2007 03:31 PM

hector looks ferocious (actually almost identical to voodoo) but he doesn't bark.

hey, have you considered putting some mace on your keychain? seriously-- it's no deadly weapon, but it gives you room to run if cornered.

another Q-- why did you call your dad instead of 911? or didnt call 911 after?? im puzzled...

It was probably a meth or oxy head looking to rob the place and sell whatever 2-for-1 to the dope dealer or perhaps (not as likely) to a pawn shop.

These people are, for the most part, nonviolent and easily discouraged, so the use of force isn't necessary. At any sign that there is a dog or someone home, they just move along to the next target randomly approaching houses during the day and hoping that no one is home. There is always the possibilty though that you're dealing with a robber that is bad off, so if they actually come in when it's obvious someone is home, they I wouldn't hesitate to fucking blow their shit away. In our day and age, this is exactly the purpose of owning a firearm.

Because my dad drives faster and runs more red lights than any policeman or ambulance.

But really, I don't know. I wasn't even entirely sure there was a person in the house, though it seemed that way. I've never called 911 before. It didn't strike me as being 911 serious.

I feel for ya. thieves deserve their kneecaps crushed by weighty objects.

Trasher02 05.15.2007 03:41 PM

Luckely we got the car back.

hey, don't fuck with your safety. seriously. stolen crap can be replaced but not your life. better to be overly cautious than not at all. im glad nothing happened to you, but home invasions are no joke. don't mean to make you paranoid, but rapes are not uncommon under those circumstances. please be careful?

http://www.crimedoctor.com/homeinvasion.htm

at the bottom of the page you'll find other useful links, like "surviving a home invasion". show that to your dad too.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 05.15.2007 03:53 PM

yeah be careful

Hip Priest 05.15.2007 03:57 PM

Burglary is amongst the very worst things that society has to offer, and is taken far too lightly, at least in this country.

I would hate that kind of thing to happen to me. You have my sympathy, lux.

screamingskull 05.15.2007 05:42 PM

i got burgalirised in 2000, the bastards took all my cd's and all my mum's jewelry.

tesla69 05.16.2007 01:11 PM

You dad should call the cops. they'll be back. if its meth they aren't too bright and I've never heard they are nonviolent.

You should probably carry a pistol and shoot at any slight sound without even looking first.

atsonicpark 05.16.2007 02:02 PM

one time i was at the basement at my grandpas, downloading porn, when i heard banging at the door. i went upstairs and it was some drunk trying to break in. i, too, almost had a heart attack. i went and got my grandpa, who went to the door with a gun and talked to the guy. he wasn't violent, seemingly, he just wanted to piss. i called the police. they came and tackled him.

a few weeks later, he was found drunk and naked at a golf course.

and ... yeah. we kept reading about him in the paper.. i think he had a drinking problem.

that would be a great way for her to accidentally shoot her dad who came back home for some papers, wouldn't it? worst advice ever.

the part about calling the cops anyway is right though. they could even keep an eye on your house in exchange for a weekly supply of donuts...
