original recordings Thread

Post anything and everything you want. If you want to get your stuff heard by the board then put up a link.

It should read original recordings thread, but I fucked it up so nevermind.

If you mean Original Master Recordings by Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs, then I've only got Abbey Road on vinyl.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 04.24.2006 06:37 PM

contrelefuckingsexisme 04.24.2006 07:10 PM

http://www.myspace.com/noisesfromthefloraandfauna - a band i am in with a guy from chicago.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.24.2006 07:45 PM

I like The Lou Reed.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.24.2006 08:52 PM

Check my sig. It was using a tascam portastudio 02. I want to buy a MkII 414 so I don't have to overdub vocals. I hate overdubbing parts, it makes recordings so laid back sounding. I'm going to start recording live shows now that I am doing them. The vocals sound so much better live, and my music is pretty vocal dependent.

Month later edit:

I started playing with an old friend of mine over spring break. The second time we got together i just set some mics up in the room and did a loose improv.

marleypumpkin 05.23.2006 09:43 PM

Here's an early recording I made when I first got my Boss digital 4 track recorder. I composed it, I played all the instruments, I recorded, mixed, & edited it. Anything that had to be done, I did it.

"Sent-Off"

Let me know if there's any problems. Enjoy!

marleypumpkin 05.23.2006 09:54 PM

Really, I hadn't noticed. As long as you listen to the music I posted, & give a comment, I'll be happy.

umjammer atomsk 05.23.2006 10:00 PM

Just kidding, I was actually interested in checking out everybody's music that day.

Oh sorry about the comment though... I kinda hate metal so I didn't like your recording. No offense. It's impressive that you did everything on it though and you're a lot better musician than I am right now, so props. (I'm no good at criticizing)

qprogeny79 05.23.2006 11:16 PM

i posted this in the do you have a band thread, but i'll do it again just to be a repetitive twerp.

http://www.myspace.com/distilledessence

i'm just screwing around -- nothing serious.

CHOUT 05.23.2006 11:38 PM

Here's a rough version of a new song that I posted in another thread

None taken. I overstand. Different strokes for different folks. I'm just glad that you took the time to listen. & I appreciate the props. Thanks!

Anyone else have any comments/opinions about the track that I posted?

Spiritual Amnesia 05.24.2006 02:56 AM

in my opinion, your song sounds great... good job.
but the song is a bit monotonous.

so.....

marleypumpkin 05.24.2006 03:00 AM

^:
Yeah, I know what you're describing. I originally recorded the track to cassette, then I burned it from cassette to cd through analog.
It was one of my early, early recordings to.

Thanks for listening!

mr.marleypumpkin
----------------------------------
song rocks, very grungy.
sound quality is OK but not great.
if you ask me, something is missing, i´d add some synthiziser or someting to give it the extra kick

CHOUT
-----------------------------------
cool, cool, cool
very nice song
kinda car driving road movieish tune
great work and good sound quality
what´s your recording gear?

it´s interesting that most people on the board only do instrumental stuff

Well, the reason I don't do much vocalising is because I am NOT a good singer, & I really am not that great of a lyricist. But, I do like the idea of vocal manipulation. You may remember a track I did called, "Heavenly Voice".
As far as the sound quality goes, I had just started to record my own music myself. So, I didn't have that good of an ear for mixing at the time. & "Sent-Off" was, like I said before, was recorded to cassette first.
A Thousand Threads:
Or I could add some experimental vocalisation & bass work.

A Thousand Threads 05.24.2006 04:21 AM

i think some high pitched synth sounds would fit very well

well,
you´re the artist

marleypumpkin 05.24.2006 04:29 AM

Oh, I'm happy to take any suggestions & opinions. I don't have access to any synths at the moment, but when I get access to one, you can bet that I will be experimenting w/ that as well.

A Thousand Threads 05.24.2006 04:36 AM

you could try some software synths
but most are un-controllable (at least for me) and they sound crappy (at least when i work with them)

ahh...
i also should record some stuff with my band but it never happens
last time we tried i had no feelings in my hand (parkbench syndrome)
then our drummer had an accident
someone is abroad
then we´re to lazy
blabla

marleypumpkin 05.24.2006 04:48 AM

It's overstandable. Hey, shit happens. I was suppose to have been recording w/ my new band all this week, but that fell through as well.

i am not normally one for remasters as they are usually done by tired dinasaurs who just want to make a few extra quid but there are a few that i lend my ears to.

marleypumpkin 05.27.2006 11:09 PM

I know what you mean. I need to try more out of tune composing.

acousticrock87 05.27.2006 11:38 PM

Sorry if I missed something, but marleypumpkin - Is the Dislodgement page yours?

marleypumpkin 05.27.2006 11:40 PM

Yeah, everyone likes frequency. It is based off the dream (from my dream thread) about the girl that turned into a monster while I was having sex with her. I purposefully put the vocals low because I couldn't get the vocals the way I wanted. I think once I get my own personaly 4 track I'll have the time to nail vocals on all my future recordings.
