Best Mogwai album? (the true)

THIS TIME FOR REAL

Seems to be lots of opinions about it, so what's your favorite album? No joke on Gremlins admitted

SYRFox 04.14.2007 02:40 PM

I used to think Come On Die Young was their best, but since I have it Young Team is now my number one

Glice 04.14.2007 02:47 PM

MYT was my favourite album of ever for many years [he says insightfully].

nicfit 04.14.2007 03:00 PM

:p Errrm... "Ten Rapid" and "Ep+6" should be added to the poll's options, even if they are not "proper" albums.. :D
By the way, my vote goes to CODY, becuz it sounds just like a mogwai album should sound. Amazningly recorded. Good songs, coherent "mood".

Torn Curtain 04.14.2007 03:02 PM

Ten rapid

Glice 04.14.2007 05:19 PM

Anyone else remember when ten rapid was what you got because you didn't have one of the 7"s? Or when the EP+6 seemed like a waste of money? Isn't Kicking a Dead Pig missing from the list? And wasn't there a sessions compilation that ommited some of the better session tracks which I still have on tape?

Dear God I'm such a prick.

the ikara cult 04.14.2007 06:14 PM

happy songs, its close between that and Young Team but i think Happy songs holds together better than the other albums ive heard. And everyone says Young team is the best by far when Happy songs is clearly just as good, it deserves credit.

afterthefact 04.14.2007 06:26 PM

I'm a big fan of Come On Die Young, mainly because it's the only album I have... but it is really good, and I have HEARD the others.

dazedcola 04.14.2007 09:15 PM

Ive only heard Young Team but i like it alot. especially that end track "mogwai fear satan".

HaydenAsche 04.14.2007 09:30 PM

Come On, Die Young

PAULYBEE2656 04.15.2007 05:01 AM

xmas steps EP, i didn't like that one so much, the album version was better.

Style 04.15.2007 12:26 PM

I went with "Happy Songs For Happy People" simply because it was what introduced me to mogwai.

Dues 04.15.2007 01:30 PM

I simply like these 3 releases:
My father my king EP
Government commissions
Mogwai (EP+6)
I have all the albums too, but they don't get as much play as the above do.

fluxequalsrad 04.15.2007 01:45 PM

I want to here the Government Commissions 'Like Herod' so bad.

SonicSam 04.15.2007 06:35 PM

CODY for me. Happy songs is DEFINATELY their worst, other than the song hunted by a freak. I need young team...

krastian 04.15.2007 11:51 PM

CODY is my favorite.

_slavo_ 04.16.2007 04:02 AM

Since there is no "EP+6" possibility, I go for "Rock Action", although it's a tough call. I just simply love that album's sound, and the moment, when in "Take me somewhere nice" the drums come in, it belongs to my ever favourite moments in recorded music.

It sure does. My favourite is the Max Tundra mix on that one.

The Lung 04.16.2007 04:55 AM

I went for Young Team as it was the first one I heard, I was obsessed with Mogwai Fear Satan for a while, that re-mix Kevin Shields did was pretty cool. Next favorite would be Ten Rapid, I love the first 3 tracks.

Actually I think that it's not that bad (even if I agree with you ranking it last), some songs are really good (killing all the flies) but the production is way too "new agey", if you understand what I mean. This kills all the mood.

Toilet & Bowels 04.16.2007 06:32 AM

what's mr beast like? i used to be a mogwai obsessive but i started to loose interest when rock action came out, and then happy songs was just dull as ditchwater.

Mr. Beast is a bit better than Happy Songs, but still has dull moments. Anyway, a couple of awesome tracks too (Auto Rock, Travel is Dangerous, Friend of the Night)

nicfit 04.16.2007 07:00 AM

Mr.Beast is pretty decent. Shorter (to an extent) songs and good sound.

some youtube clips of mr.beast tracks ( the "good sound" does not apply to these, obviously)

friend of the night
travel is dangerous
glasgow mega snake

_slavo_ 04.16.2007 07:20 AM

I still love Mogwai anywai. They're one of my top 3 bands.

It's a shame they dont play any of rock action live anymore. 2 wrongs make 1 right would sound awesome.

Funnily enough I'm in exactly the same boat. I still have pretty much every radio session they did, that I could find out about, in Europe, up until Rock Action. Pretty shocking obsessiveness, the last band I was properly like that with... but these days, I likes 'em, but I don't loves 'em like I used to. Mr Beast sound rubbish on stereos but awesome on headphones. I've noticed that a lot of people don't understand the difference between a headphone album and a stereo album. They should. Pesky bloomin' mp3s.

NWRA 04.18.2007 03:52 AM

Ten Rapid for me.
