Flaming Lips covering "Unmade Bed"...
Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but from a recent live radio session the Lips doing a cover of Unmade Bed...

sweet. i havent heard of them doing this before
Interesting. They did a nice job, but I think they sort of sapped everything good out of Unmade Bed. Same goes for the Led Zep.
holy shit, thanks!
first they cover bohemian rhapsody, now this? is nothing sacred to them?
thanks, can't wait to hear it
I really didn't like the Unmade Bed cover that much...then again I'm not a big Flaming Lips fan.
No Quarter wasn't that bad though. |
I am a HUGE lips fan, but I think they butchered it. It sounds like a "bad joke" honestly. I'm not hating on the lips, I have every single album and have always loved them(except Yoshimi), but this cover just sounds like a bad joke.
They do some really great covers, like Louis Armstrong's "What a wonderful World", which still blows me away, but this one just doesn't sound very "thought out" according to the Lip's potential. I think if they really put their minds to it, they could've done a much better job. |
It was okay. The vocals kinda pissed me off though.
hahaha . . . this is interesting, but i may have to listen to it a few times before i get it. just kinda weird to hear the flaming lips cover sonic youth, as those two bands are my co-favorites. definitely exciting though--like seeing wayne wearing a sonic youth t-shirt in the slip cover of hit to death in the future head.
its ok, their death valley 69 cover is better

my god, a flips fan that doesnt like yoshimi, at last someone agrees with me. yoshimi is totally overrated. what u think of "mystics" kchris. i think its even worse! |
I just heard it. I want to hear the Lips doing Death valley 69!
I like their cover of Unmabe Bed. They take it into space out mode. which the song was close too. The original's skronk is too beautiful to recreate though. Lee RULES! |
wierder that the flaming lips jammin sy ... was PHISH jammin a sy song
wow
intersting to hear fp covering sy nice cover, i mean it's not only simple cover of that song, but they've put something of theirs into it, how should it be actually unmade bed is a great tune |
nooooo! my wireless network wont let me stream it! i dont suppose theres anywhere i can download it?

Teen Spirit too. |
doctor dan, you can also download the interview you don't have to listen to it in streaming...
Man, I'm listening to it right now, I cannot believe what they did to this song, they ruined one of the best SY song (why add SY?). They removed all the melodic and rythmic subtlety. It(the real version, not the cover ) kind of reminds of some jazz compositions. Like Unwind it's uncaracteristic SY but it's still a gem.
they cover everything. the flaming lips version of war pigs w/ cat power (chan marshall) is interesting.
That was... odd. I guess. I liked it though. Definitely nowhere near the original in terms of awesome though.
What song did Phish do?
Sounds great, on the interview they sound like really intelligent guys.
to m that really sounds like unmade bed ......
by the way great mix of songs: unmade bed and the quarter ...... it is nice. |
Nearly finished the thing. I'm gonna have to dig out Yoshima and get into it 'cos i'm really digging this stuff. Again they're clever bunch of blokes, i'd like to have a chin-wag with them.
It was pretty interesting. I like the original better, but it was nice to hear a different voice singing it for once
Actually this is a very boring cover.....
I don't like the voice at all......it's nearl destroying this song (the original) and making fun of it......at least it seems so |

Well it's subjective. I think they're taking a different angle at the song, which is what makes covers more interesting instead of simply recreating the same song, the exact same way. |
i went to see the flaming lips last night and they are by far the greatist band that i have ever seen, and ive seen alot of bands, including sonic youth.
I thought it was ok, but I thought it would have been better though. Where's the guitar!?!
.....no man i think they (phish) did jam a sonic youth song .....
.. i personally cant stand that shit(phish) but some of my friends are really in to that jam band shit .... .. and thats they only reason i know .. is cuz they were tellin me about how it was .........ill try to find out more and post the details... |
I think yr friends might be mistaken. Here is a list of all the songs they covered. I skimmed the list real quick just to make sure and I didn't see any......not that you care either way.

Yep. |
Not a great cover really.
Yeah, I dont really care for the cover of Unmade Bed, but I liked the cover of No Code. But in all honesty you can't hate the Flaming Lips, they are just too good.
Besides, I've heard much worse covers by better bands.
That crap they tried to pass off as artistic music on Letterman last night sucked badly. I've never been a fan of them. Admittedly, the most exposure I've had to their music is when Transmissions From the Satellite Heart was out in the '90s. Some friends have met & played with them before & like them. I don't have time for "nearly-there" crap bands like The Flaming Lips (or Wilco or Pearl Jam for that matter). Sonic Youth have been keeping rather dubious company lately. I agree that Eddie Vedder (other thread) has a good voice & that the band executed an admirable bowing-out to the machine, but I don't listen to them. !@#$%!'s remarks on Ten's production are funny because they are true. Their other albums are better & I would put Vitalogy & No Code at the top. I had a few albums & bootlegs & instead of even copying them to cd-r, I gave them away to a younger guy that used to be a housemate last year. I gave him some Smashing Pumpkins too. He also borrowed lots of Led Zeppelin, but I made him copies of those. As he was moving out, I was able to spot the two Led Zep he still had & was able to get those back also, thankfully; he didn't get copies of those.
Their was me thinking Pearl Jam ad made it big. Silly me.
i thought it was a great cover. guitar solo was a little silly, but i think i like the cover just as much as the original.
that was really cool. i hope they tour togetther sometime and play each others songs. i just think it would be interesting.
