fun and embarrassment w/ Spotify analytics
so Spotify does their thing at the end of each year that gives you stats on what you listened to all year. I thought I'd share with you guys what it tells me (for better or worse)...
To note, I remember last year that my #1 most listened to artist was The Smashing Pumpkins. Shocking. Anyway, here we go... 2017... TOP ARTISTS 1. Wilco 2. Weezer 3. Ryan Adams 4. Bush 5. Aziz Ansari ...the top 3 aren't surprising. At all. I expected SP to be in there. Maybe PJ. Bush is like, what really? I mean. Hmm. Aziz... that's funny. I do listen to his comedy stuff a lot tho. TOP SONGS 1. "Should've Been In Love" Wilco 2. "Misunderstood" Wilco 3. "Do You Still Love Me?" Ryan Adams 4. "She's A Jar" Wilco 5. "One By One" Wilco ...wow. Haha. I DO love Wilco. |
You need to listen to more things.
|
I don't think I do. I'm a generally happy person. And to my knowledge, my listening habits aren't hurting anybody.
|
ryan adams... is that some shitty 80s canadian? or something?
|
where do you find that ? I gots the spotify
|
hit "Browse" and then scroll down to "2017 Wrapped" and you'll get a playlist of your top songs, and a playlist called "ones that got away" that I'm not really sure what it is.
Below that, there's a link to "look back at 2017" where it'll quiz you and then tell you what your top 5 artists and songs were. |
hahahahha
1. Heart Cold - Rich Homie Quan 2. Blase' - Ty $ 3. Low Life - Future/Weeknd 4. Starboy - Weeknd (cuz I'm a motherfucking starboy too) 5. Hercules - Young Thug 6. Percocet & Stripper Joint - Future 7. goosebumps - TRavi$ Scott 8. Bussin' Sudz - Dew baby 9. From The D To The A - Tee Grizzley/Lil Yachty 10. Stick Talk - Future sounds about right. |

these are just songs from your playlist, unranked.... find the thing that says "look back at 2017" and it'll tell you the actual TOP 5 artists and songs. |
7,128 minutes
1,300 songs 452 different artists (so I guess I do listen to MORE than Wilco/Weezer/SP/etc...) |
I only use spotify for driving and have just 4 different "mixes" set up. One is trap, one is OG rock n roll (berry, richard, holly, domino, diddley), one is where I dumped about 200 albusm from my noise rock faves.

452 different artists how am I not listening to "enough"? Plus, so much Wilco. What's wrong w/ Wilco, Soup? ANYWAY, this is really not accurate since for instance I tend to only listen to SY on CD and not thru Spotify. But it's interesting. |

Absolutely nothing. But for Vishnu's sake add some PERE UBU to your day goddammit! Their first three albums and the Terminal Tower collecsh to start with! |
lol I'm looking at my Top Played Songs 2017 playlist that it made for me, and this is pretty hilarious... "Lasagna" by Weird Al is on there. But the reason is that I have this ongoing thing I do to my wife where I'll try to sneak that song up on her. Like, she'll be reading in the bed and I'll put it on my phone softly and slide the phone under the bed from out of sight. Or I'll send her a link and be like "woah! First new Star Wars trailer" but it's that song. I've even gone outside to the backyard and remote streamed "Lasagna" interrupting whatever she was watching on the Fire Stick. She hates Weird Al by the way. So yeah, the fact that this song is one of my most played of the year for this reason is really funny to me.

Am I the last bachelor standing in this joint?
Marriage is for gays. :D |
I've been married for um, 11 years. So this isn't a new thing, bruh.
|
I am on marriage # 2. 6 years in!
|
speaking of Wilco and Spotify, those AM and Being There reissues are on Spotify... I gotta check em out ASAP.

CONGRATS - we make 20 years in April 2018! I don’t have Spotify......too busy listening to podcast and BandCamp I guess? For all the NOTHING talk I never saw about Ryan Adams during the year, his name is making most year end list. |
My most listened artist in 2017 is probably Wolf Eyes who have been killing it this year, but i don't have Spotify.

it's tough for me to talk, because I've been kind of an obsessed fan for a really really long time. So I'm biased. BUT, Prisoner is a really really good album. Like when I try to step back and listen to it with non-obsesso ears. I feel like it's the really solid record that would probably have a wider spread appeal than a lot of his recent albums. Um, if you're interested check out "Shiver & A Shake" which is prob my fav song on the album. And if you like that try "Do You Still Love Me?" for contrast, as those 2 songs are miles away from each other. |

Who said you were hurting anyone? I might argue that you’re hurting yourself a bit, by denying yourself exposure to some things you might like (a Weezer fan who hasn’t heard Car Seat Headrest’s Teens of Denial is actually engaging in gross self-negligence), but I never said you were hurting anyone. Just... I dunno. Wow. I listen to Kanye more than any human being should, but I still find time to check new releases every week. I think this is a phase, and you’re doing sort of a musical equivalent of sweatpants and comfort food... which is fine. But... dude. You *know* what I’m getting at here. There might be things you like more than the things you’ve liked for 20 years, but you’ll never know if you don’t... y’know... Wilco is of course awesome. That’s not the point. |
Sweatpants is nail on the head bro. But I'm happy.

^ obviously NR is deeply offended by my typo-filled snob rant... (We need a better eyeroll emoticon for the board, because the iOS and android ones don’t work here. Unless they’ve started to work... you tell me... gonna roll my eyes now: ) |

Adam Sandler? You know I’m not the one who’s going to give you *actual* shit for this stuff, but yikes. You are brave. Also, what Röyksopp shiz are you listening to? Man they had a couple of damn good albums a while back... in the ‘00s. Not sure what they’re up to now. |
I'm actually more amazed that The Jerky Boys are in there. I think a lot of that stuff comes from just throwing on random 'comedy' playlists while driving. Sometimes I'll do that to break things up. But I mean, whatever. Adam Sandler, I don't care. His movies are pretty terrible now but if Billy Madison is on TV, I always have to stop and I always laugh. Shrug. I saw that guy at a water park once actually (he's from New England area). Seemed like a real nice guy.
Anyway, I love one Royksopp song: "Eple" - doubt I've ever heard another one of their songs, though. |

How much audio stuff does he have? Real question, not giving you shit. (I'll give you shit after you answer.) ;-) |
in 1992, one of my fellow dorm-mates at the univ of Houston went on a trip to NYC and came back with a cassette bootleg of what became The Jerky Boys. Oh jesus we listened to that shit so much.....
|

he's got one comedy album (that's really funny). But again, the comedy stuff here is a fluke. It's just from me shuffling comedy albums in between music on commutes. It's not like I was like "oh man, I really want to hear that one goat skit from Adam Sandler like 20 times in a row" haha. Showalter's stand-up album is fucking hilarious, though. |
I see. Thanks for the reply.
Now, here's what you're doing completely wrong with your entire life... |
hahahahahahahha
|
haha, that was good stuff. Well played.
