I love you Golden blue

I read on the "Ask the band a question" thread that it was maligned by fans and critics, is this true? I personally think its beautiful, it even made me cry once.

timtimtim 02.13.2007 06:27 PM

It's never made me cry by I agree with you. It's one of my favorites off of sonic Nurse.

racehorse 02.13.2007 06:29 PM

i love it, i love kim's half hushed whisper, it is entrancing. the song is enthralling, completely beautiful.
i'm going to listen to it now.

Danny Himself 02.13.2007 08:00 PM

People have been bastards to 'sonic nurse' and 'rather ripped' because, of course, after all these years, sonic youth owe them, right?

The fact is that both of the albums are killers and people are just being bitchy.

I love Sonic Nurse more than any other SY album. I LIKE Rather Ripped rather than loving it. But since NYCGhosts and Flowers i cant imagine another band who has done 4 albums in a row that are so good. PLUS theyve done that a few times before.

RanaldoNecro 02.13.2007 10:12 PM

The Live version from Malmo is pretty fantastic....I can just see the band emerging on the stage to a long intro very cool

Green Magnesium 02.14.2007 06:52 AM

Love, love, LOVE this song. The video's great too. Unfortunately, the only live version I have of it is rather poor.

If I was musical and in a band, I would open every show with this tune. That is, until the audience started protesting and hurling things.

jon boy 02.14.2007 07:29 AM

its probably my fave of that album and i really dont know why anyone wouldnt like it really.

porkmarras 02.14.2007 07:35 AM

It is my favourite on that album too and i particularly like the lyrics and Kim's singing on it.

You' re so right, it gives me the same feeling too... Isn't melancholy so... strange?

demonrail666 02.14.2007 08:00 AM

Gorgeous

Tokolosh 02.14.2007 08:02 AM

That sure is a great song. Nice to see that Nurse is still being talked about.

Tennessee 02.14.2007 08:03 AM

I mean, it can be such a sweet feeling... Artists need to be a little melancholic in order to produce a good result, because it has to come straight from the heart.

foxforce5 02.14.2007 08:23 AM

Opened with Golden Blue the majority of the time on the NA Nurse tour, about the best song they could have opened with.

dazedcola 02.14.2007 02:55 PM

yea i really like this song too, I dont understand how anyone could hate it.It has a real fragile beauty to it with Kim's whispery vocals sounding like shes on her last two legs.

Trasher02 02.14.2007 03:23 PM

This thread made me play Sonic Nurse once again. One of my favorite albums.

badgercorn 02.14.2007 08:27 PM

Maligned? I don't understand that. I think it's one of the best Kim songs, period. She said in an interview that it was the darkest SY song she'd written lyrics for. It made me cry too......

Danny Himself 02.14.2007 08:41 PM

It's true. It's pretty perfect.

Androol 02.14.2007 10:28 PM

reminds me of that song from superman. anyone else?

Pax Americana 02.15.2007 12:28 AM

Best song on Nurse.

Green Magnesium 02.17.2007 11:29 AM

Does anyone know what Jim played on this track? Organ, guitar, bass? Anyone? The bass-line sounds rather simple, and I'm thinking Kim played it on this one.

_slavo_ 02.17.2007 12:19 PM

It's also my favourite off Sonic Nurse since the first time I heard this album.

Anyone?

finding nobody 02.19.2007 10:44 PM

Lee played a synth organ type thing. Jim played guitar, so I Kim played bass

Green Magnesium 02.20.2007 09:51 AM

Thank you very much! ^

Beautiful and powerful. It was the first song i ever see Sonic Youth performing live, I was blown away even at the fucking beggining of it.

first for me too...

one of my favourite sy songs period... and i agree about the best song they could open with... along with candle which i also got at atp.

neptuneg 03.06.2007 03:17 PM

Does anyone know what this song is about?

Washing Machine 03.07.2007 10:20 AM

i adore that song (as i do the whole album). We did a poll on here not long ago and Sonic Nurse came up as the favourite SY album of the 00's. I think its a Kim Gordon classic. Shes so much better doing quieter songs, they really show off the beauty of her voice. Thats why I love 'Shadow of a Doubt', 'Beauty Lies in the Eye', 'Secret Girls' and 'Little Trouble Girl'.

Wow, I'm not the only one who digs 'Little trouble girl'.

Cantankerous 03.07.2007 06:52 PM

i love it. it is gorgeous.

I think most people love it.
The board voted Washing Machine SY's best album of the 90's too
If I remember correctly it was

80's - Sister / Daydream Nation
90's - Washing Machine
00's - Sonic Nurse

You have to take Washing Machine in the context of when it came out, hearing songs like 'Little Trouble Girl', 'The Diamond Sea' and 'Skip Tracer' must have been mindblowing, they had done nothing of the sort previously. I always see Washing Machine as the turning point in which you see the modern sonic youth evolving.

Rob Instigator 03.08.2007 12:29 AM

golden blue is fucking great. live it was amazing.
i rank it right up there with beaty llies in th eeyeeye and shadow of a doubt and FUCKING DUDE RANCH NURSE!!!!! That song does not get it's due! It is a fucking great song!

✌➬ 12.15.2007 08:56 PM

I got this one after Dirty, and has always been one of my favorites. I hold this one way on top. Right before DDN.

HaydenAsche 12.16.2007 12:07 AM

Song sucks. Accept it.

frades 01.14.2008 03:26 PM

to my mind this song is simply the best SY song ever. the intro in crescendo is marvellous and you find the same instrument sounding like a siren of boat that you also find on "slaapkamers met slagroom". how does it name? does anyone know?

less_cunning 02.14.2008 04:50 AM

i would like more insight into the lyrics.

SonicBebs 02.14.2008 09:06 AM

Its a stunning song. So beautiful

SonicBebs 02.14.2008 09:06 AM

i've allways thought it was to do with dead babies for some reason

Rob Instigator 02.14.2008 11:06 AM

i love you golden blue starts off sweetly noisy and gets very sad.

Rob Instigator 02.14.2008 11:06 AM

i think it is about remembering a dead pet, a dog, from long ago.
