New Blockaders
Any fans? The 4CD Antiology has been beating my ass savagely these past few days.
|
Yeah, they were pretty much my ATP highlight as well, along with Dead C. The early live shit from the antiology is unfuckable with.
|
i just found out that the new blockaders is one guy and when the NB play live he (new blockader bloke) gives source material to other musicians who perform for him while he stands in the crowd and watches.
|
they were at atp?!? didn't know that, fuck, you guys were sure lucky.
i think that they are fantastic. especially the lp they did w/thurston & jim. |

Really? I had no idea.. they all had masks on at ATP, same ones as the Nihilist Assault Group wear on the Fun From None DVD.. I thought TNB was two guys, brothers? There are two 4LP boxset tributes to TNB featuring commissioned reworkings of their source material.. that sort of fits in with what you're saying... interesting.. |
well that's what someone told me, i don't know this guy well but he's the kind of person who would probably know
|
If you speak nicely to Nicfit, he has a magazine that I sent him that includes a feature on TNB and he might be able to scan the article and post it.
I hated them at ATP. If it wasn't for the fact that I was enticed into the room with the promise of other boardies being there I would have left after about two minutes. |
:)
I'll post the article as soon as possible. I'm easily persuaded, eh Nefeli? |
the new blockaders - i like them they were good at atp.

Consider yourself well and truly repped.

phil todd ashtray navigations used to play in them.
|
splendid, thanks a lot for those scans
|
gotta check these out. i have been meaning to but got distracted along the path to freedom......
|
Thanks guys (you know who you are) for the rep, but the credit for the scans is to be shared with sonicl, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't even have the magazine I took the article from! So, here is my "public", huge THANK YOU to sonicl for his kindness! :)

the ATP performance was a collaboration with the haters as far as i know, or it was supposed to be. the RRR pic disc is good, need that 4cd.

i can't wait, one of my top 3 or 4 performances of the weekend, from a weekend filled with fantastic performances |
For anyone who's interested, there's an excerpt from the Blossoming Noise CD at their myspace. It sounds nothing like the audio onslaught that I remember it being. They didn't play two sets, did they?

....still gotta check em out! |
While browsing for something else, I came across this site, which may be of interest to New Blockaders completists: Tochnit Aleph mail order
And when I came back here, Nefeli had bumped this thread to the top of the board. It must be fate, how could I not post the link? |
I hated the New Blockaders experience at ATP, the volume and the extreme frequencies, but what I heard of that CD I found totally different and would like to hear more of. I'm trying to stop accumulating CDs at the moment, especially ones that I don't really know if I'll like long-term, but I'm hoping that if I wait a while I'll be able to find it as a digital download somewhere, and then I'll almost definitely buy it.

Volcanic Tongue review:
The New Blockaders Das Zerstoren, Zum Gebaren Blossoming Noise BN-028 CD £8.99 The final live document to come from this legendary UK noise group is drawn from the most amazing TNB live action of their career, their massively psychedelic set from ATP's Nightmare Before Christmas curated by Thurston Moore. There were a ton of amazing performances over that weekend: Stooges, The Bummer Road, Wooden Wand, NNCK... but TNB pretty much ruled the weekend. Rumour has it that the line-up included Damion Romero, Has and Ben from Jazzfinger and Mark from Putrefier with Richard Rupenus conducting things via ESP from the sidelines but as with everything relating to the whole TNB mythos, facts are impossible to verify. The set was quite unlike anything they've ever really done before and hearing it again in this form, beautifully recorded and mastered by Romero, the amount of hallucinogenic detail and the intricate violence of the performance is even more apparent. It starts off with sudden blurts of extremely tactile lightning strikes before a bunch of voices cohere in a low fog of disruptive tone, building with shrieks and starts to the point where it becomes a huge opaque wall of vibrating tone threat. But what really sets it off - and what makes the whole thing sound so impossibly malevolent - is the evocative use of a highly vocal/vocoder sounding synth pattern that occasionally rises to the surface in waves of genuinely disturbing claustrophobic threat. At the time I was sure it was a modulated vocal but here the way it is subtly threaded throughout the performance like the most under-stated theme makes it sound more like a synth mutated to the point of electro-hypnotism. Certainly the most psychedelic noise record of TNB's career, if not the best of their live actions, Das Zerstoren, Zum Gebaren is already one of my all-time favourite noise releases. Highest possible recommendation. Edition of 1000 copies in full-colour digipak with sleevenotes by Byron Coley. http://www.volcanictongue.com/artist...w%20Blockaders |
