Do Sonic Youth Have A Show In China?

IT IS SAID THAT SONIC YOUTH WILL HAVE A SHOW IN CHINA APRIL 2007,IS IT TURE?

Trasher02 02.11.2007 04:39 AM

Look at the Calender.

OSAKA NAMBA HATCH TICKETS

pantophobia 02.11.2007 04:54 AM

it may have been more like they were trying to plan a show in china, and either it fell through, or is still being worked out

Danny Himself 02.11.2007 09:30 AM

Osaka is in Japan, Trasher. With the current political climate and hell-ass censorship in China I doubt there'll be a show there.

THIS GOSSIP IS FROM THIS WEBSITE.

James Blonde 02.11.2007 11:27 AM

Why China? When will SY come to Lisboa again asks James Blonde.

Brett Robinson 02.11.2007 12:21 PM

why NOT china? i'm sure they'd rather play somewhere they have not played before... except Flywheel. they love that place.

That's what I think too. Censorship is totally crazy there. It would be the first SY gig in China, no?
That'd be nice for people living there though.

sonicat 02.11.2007 07:57 PM

Censorship is a big problem, but we have great shows of Dirtythree&Lacrimosa last year.I Wonder if the show of SY have possibility.

James Blonde 02.12.2007 12:05 PM

James Blonde wonders how many copies have SY sold in China.

_slavo_ 02.12.2007 12:24 PM

taking into account how many people are there in China, maybe more than you think, James Blonde.

Hah, now it comes to my mind, when I was in Beijing in 2002 and saw this street gig of some local badass punk band sponsored by a huge mobile operator company. It was crazy, these absolutely trashy looking punks playing with big neon logo shining over their heads.

China is weird. Beautiful though.

James Blonde 02.12.2007 12:28 PM

James Blonde thinks about official and pirate copies. How big is the difference.

greenlight 02.12.2007 04:15 PM

sonicat? are you from china?>?? I have few chineese==( how the hell you spell it) friends, asked them to bring me sonic youth cd from china (you know with them chinese alphabet and stuff on the cover). They couldnt find any, which is unbeliebvable to me. Is that possible? Or they just didn;t know where to go and buy it? sorry for my spelling, I'm bit drunk @ mo. lucky you europeans, who were in china!!!

sonicat 02.12.2007 08:13 PM

U said ur friends can't find SY cds in China,it is impossible.Maybe they didn't find the right place. The music shop in the city have many collections, including puck, indie rock, post rock,hip-pop,etc.

I am in Beijing now,it's not beautiful and not weird .It's a normal city as other big morden cities.

It's funny, I went to Beijing cause my brother lives there, and I would describe it just the way slavo did : weird and beautiful.
So where are good records shops in there?

sonicat 02.13.2007 07:46 PM

So many, but I can't describe the location exactly. It's hard to remeber the name of the street in China.:o

Hey Mr. Lee how about Southamerica?

alyasa 02.20.2007 06:11 PM

Is Singapore part of China?

SONIC YOUTH IN CHINA
Sonic Youth have booked their first two shows ever in China. April 23 SY is in Beijing at The Star Live and April 24 in Shanghai at the Paramount. Both shows are still subject to PRC Ministry of Culture approval. Ticket information will be here as soon as we have it.

msittig 02.22.2007 03:27 PM

Really?

Wow, this is great news! I know some people that have been waiting for this for a long time...

In any case, /please/ consider doing an after-hours show at Yuyintang. They are the place to go to for local indie rock with a local crowd, if a little small. The Dirty Three did a small show there the night that they performed in Shanghai.

In any case, I tentatively added this to Upcoming.org.

It is not the correct venue! Split are doing the show at the Shanghai Concert Hall.

The Paramount was an early option discussed with the band. I think they maybe were a bit too excited to announce it on the website!

Gonna be a great show no matter where it is...

Thanks for confirming. This is exciting.

lisayoung 02.24.2007 10:40 PM

well,its cool.im in nantong,kinda near shanghai.
i don't think the shanghai concert hall is the appropriate place for a rock show, either.it seems to be fir a serious classic music performance.
yes,i heard the show about dirty three in 育音堂,its an additional show ,right?because the former show, which was held in 云峰剧院 had a little bit problem in the end.
well,i gave an email to steve last night, anyway, asking about the venues or something.his reply was kinda amazing:"aside all of this, aren't you happy that sy is coming to china?"

yes,we are just so happy.i will try my best to see the show though i will have classes that day...maybe drop out some classes then...

china is waiting for you!

If it's designed for "serious classical music" then surely the acoustics for serious noise music will be brilliant?
