Sister or Goo?

I bought them both yesterday secondhand, I really like Sister. I see Goo is a popular amongst most Sonic Youth fans, but I find the vocals on that album lacking - the music is cool, but the vocals just seem somewhat lazy. I like it but perchance it'll grow on me more over time. But I'm interested (not overally) as to what you folk like more?

The artwork for Goo is super cool.

Cantankerous 12.16.2006 01:18 AM

is that even a valid question? goo is tripe.

*not really. but you get the idea.

Norma J 12.16.2006 01:23 AM

Well, yeah, it is. it seems Goo is a huge album of Sonic Youth, which means people like it. It's mentioned alot.

The vocals on Goo are the only thing that I really don't like that much.

Norma J 12.16.2006 02:25 AM

People, speak up when you vote! Whats the point of voting when you aint contributing any voice? I want to hear from you.

The two Goo people, come forward and explain why you like it more. It's not a bad thing you do.

CHOUT 12.16.2006 02:38 AM

Love 'em both, but Sister is my all time favorite. Goo was the first one I bought.

noisemachine 12.16.2006 02:39 AM

Goo is a great album, but Sister is an absolute classic. I think I'll listen to it now.

Dead-Air 12.16.2006 02:46 AM

I love them both, and don't really think they can be compared particularly. However, I voted for Sister, because I do like it slightly more I guess. The best way to take in Goo is to watch all of the videos in order, which are all on the Corporate Ghost DVD now (which is cheaper to buy than the cd!)

pluche 12.16.2006 04:07 AM

I'll just go for Sister. It's the one i use and abuse most of the time :)
I just love how it sounds, the songs are great, some nice little walls of noise here and there, and there's stereo sanctity and tuff gnarl on it!

youthoftomorrow 12.16.2006 04:11 AM

Sister. no contest.

alyasa 12.16.2006 04:14 AM

Sister is much more intense... Goo is somewhat shimmery... I like intense.

EDIT: But then again, when is SY not intense?

Trasher02 12.16.2006 04:25 AM

Sister is the better album but I voted for Goo because it's the first album I heared and has sentimental value to it.

toxic johnny 12.16.2006 04:26 AM

Sister Sister Sister coming after Evol was a mindblowing experience. Goo coming after Daydream Nation didn't have quite the same impact for me. (interesting afterthought... I like Goo much better now than I did when it was first released)

alteredcourse 12.16.2006 04:57 AM

yeah , titanium expose . including that one , goo's got a couple of very strong standouts , which sister does but they exist more in part of a fantastic record as a whole , while the rest of goo is just 'good' .
hehe , i associate them strongy though because i bought them at the same time , so i thought it was funny that they're associated here .

Norma J 12.16.2006 05:20 AM

That's why they're associated here - because I bought them both together yesterday. Contrary to what people might think, I wasn't comparing the tunes. I've just seen Goo mentioned alot more than Sister, and I wondered why. I was considering leaving Sister behind to save some money and just buy Goo instead considering the rave it gets. But I'm glad I bought them both now.

_slavo_ 12.16.2006 05:51 AM

Sister, no fuckin' dispute.

EvdWee 12.16.2006 09:26 AM

hm, tough one, but i will go for goo; with thanks to mote :)

king_buzzo 12.16.2006 10:05 AM

sister.

RR PWNS

I voted Sister, a near flawless record. Greatly inspired by Philip K Dick, a cool author

drrrtyboots 12.16.2006 01:06 PM

This is the worst vs. thread ever. I mean c'mon, Sister is a masterpiece.

k-krack 12.16.2006 01:11 PM

I couldn't decide. Goo has Mary Christ, Titanium Exposé, Mote, Diry Boots... Sister's got Stereo Sanctity, Catholic Block, Pipeline/Killtime, Schizophrenia, etc! Damn! Two nearly perfect albums.

But Sister also has Kotton Krown AND PCH! AND White Cross. Did i mention i love this album?

Inhuman 12.16.2006 02:32 PM

I haven't heard all of sister yet actually

racehorse 12.16.2006 02:33 PM

no question here.
sister, without a doubt.
sister side 2, oh my god what an experience.
tuff knarl, PCH, cotton crown etc etc.
listening to it now in fact. SISTER!!!

against_the_grain 12.16.2006 02:43 PM

I spose I'm a wimpuss compared to the hardcore here....I like Goo better. Matter of fact. I MUCH prefer the latter period than that of they wilder, noisier early days.

I'm not sure I'd call their Goo and Dirty albums commercial, for instance. They are more accessible, not so crazily all over the place, but I guess it's the more down to earth sound I like. But from Goo on...I think they're phenomenal. Only setback for me is NYCF&G....didn't really satisfy at the time...maybe it will now.

Daydream Nation is the transitory point for me....not Evol or Sister. and I DO love DN muchly. Then again...I think EJS no trash is fantastic and it routinely gets bashed here....

which ones haven't you heard?

sun city girl 12.16.2006 03:37 PM

sister is the best sonic youth album ever, goo is ok but that's all. i guess it's popular because it was their first geffen lp so they probably got many new fans with it.

blastscenealibi 12.16.2006 04:08 PM

I voted Sister. It's just a better album to me. It's one of those perfect albums. Side one is one of my favorite album sides of all time. But Goo is a great album, too. I mean it has to be because it was the album that got me hooked on SY.

Danny Himself 12.16.2006 04:34 PM

I voted for Goo, though I love both albums equally. Goo is one of the first albums I got by SY, so it's somewhat sentimental. I also have fond memories of singing my friend goo with an old sonic friend. The videos are sweet, and Kool Thing treats us to CHUCK D and his powerful vocals. It was a good era.

Actually, thinking about it, I'm going to have to give my vote to Sister, solely for the fact that it doesn't have Chuck D sounding like a fool or My Friend Goo's lyrics. Sorry, I love you alot, Goo.

Danny Himself 12.16.2006 04:39 PM

You FOOL!

Chuck D will put you in a world of hurt, sucka. Word to tha muthafucka. Fo sho.

k-krack 12.16.2006 04:40 PM

I'll whoop Chuck D's ass. I swear to god, I will.

Danny Himself 12.16.2006 04:41 PM

What you sayin', sucka? I'm-a bite you wit mah yella teeth!

k-krack 12.16.2006 04:42 PM

I'm sayin', "Chuck, you have really let yrself go..."

Danny Himself 12.16.2006 04:44 PM

Dude, Chuck has the S1Ws..

If you're not careful, they'll, like, dance at you.

k-krack 12.16.2006 04:46 PM

Well that doesn't matter! I've got a swollen motha'-fuckin' jaw, bro. I'll fuckin' be weak and disoriented at those damn S1Ws.

Danny Himself 12.16.2006 04:49 PM

Chuck gonna hit ya where it hurts. Don't call 911, cuz they is a joke. Just you wait and see. He's a rebel without a pause. Chuck thinks you have fear of a black planet. Just remember, when he starts to fight, it'll take a nation of millions to hold him back.

k-krack 12.16.2006 05:03 PM

That was weak.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

Good-bye.

Oh, what's that? BURN!

Norma J 12.16.2006 05:55 PM

The part Chuck D plays on Goo is ok, but when I read in the liner notes that he was on Goo I thought he was going to rap, and I thought: Fuck no, don't do that.

anyone else think Thurstons voice lacks on this album? Basically the vocals in general lack.

It sounds like I fucking hate this album, but I don't. I assure you.

I said my reasons why I made this thread, if you choose to continue ignoring that, then you choose to continue being a bellend.

And certain people have chosen Goo infact. Therefore people don't see things the same as you, as a shock that may come as.
